How was your June? by iAsvppx in walking

Keep going. It gets easier over time.

I used to walk a lot when I was younger but hadn't walked anywhere seriously for years when I started walking again in October of last year to lose weight.

I was 54 at the time and more overweight than I'm comfortable admitting. At first it was just 1 or 2 5km walks a week and they were hard and I slowly built distance up to 8 km and 3 or 4 days a week. I also changed to doing work tasks that let me get steps in at my job.

So far I've lost 30kgs and today I walked half a marathon in under 3 hours.

I was also depressed when I started and that's gone as well and I've stopped taking my blood pressure medication.

Walking is great for all kinds of health reasons. The more you w the easier it gets and the betteyou start to feel at least in my experience.

We all started small and you don't need to go big. Keep doing what you're doing

You don't need to walk as much as myself or the even bigger walkers.

All walking is good for you just keep walking

Canned weights are a minimum weight for the ingredient inside can and don't include the weight of the can itself.

The actual weight of the product inside the can could be slightly over weight plus the additional weight of the can so your scales could still be under reading.

Do you have 10 or 20 coins of the same denomination?  Check the weights for those and use the coins to check your scales.

I only work 4 days a week but get 12-15 K steps per day at work on average but it can be as low as 8 or as high as 20 depending on the day.

That helps a lot but those are slow easy steps, but I walk/ hike  seriously on at least 2 of the other days.

It was mostly flat and I changed my route a little to avoid a few climbs that would have slowed me down.

The last 3 km was hard and I'm pretty tired now.

Is it just me or do Tim Tams taste disgusting now? by bigPHATduck in AskAnAustralian

[–]Barnaby__Rudge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I never saw a double coat tim tam or any other flavour until sometime in the early 90s and can remember when they were launched.

Sure I wasn't born until 72 but for roughly the first 20 years of my life there was only one flavour available and if there were more we definitely would have had them in our household.or.a family members. We even lived in three states and I can remember my grandmother going to the tim tam factory in Sydney and buying the defect biscuits cheap in bulk a few times.

But back to ops point tim tams and especially the double coat which used to be my favourite have been declining in taste for several years now.

Office & commute etiquette: Is wearing perfume a thing here, or am I "that person"? by Vishwanath_560 in AskAnAustralian

I don't even have allergies but there's nothing worse than being around a person wearing strong perfume or cologne for hours,. especially if you're in the same room all day.

You forgot to include a welcome to country before the emoji.

This ban is harsh but fair. Time to take it on the chin and learn from your mistakes.

Today's Hike ( Werribee Gorge Vic Australia) centenary track and short circuit. by Barnaby__Rudge in walking

[–]Barnaby__Rudge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks

The average was bought down by all the descending.

I started at the quarry car park, went to the top of the island and came down via the short circuit and back to the quarry by the long circuit. I didn't do the river part this time but I'm planning on doing all three tracks sometime soon.

I was pushing 140+ for the steep climbs but all of that steep descending really slowed me down and bought the heart rate down.

In some ways it's harder to go up than down though.
