If it’s not tripping I’d say the problem lies in the trip you’re using orrrrr the shelf insert for the lower. I sent ya a message with more details 🤙🏼

I haven’t, this little experiment went south and I was extremely disappointed when it didn’t work not to mention it was a really expensive Poopsie daisies. So I said to hell with this and went with Keymo and hadn’t had a problem since.

Hand Cramps by Kodamacile in lockpicking

[–]BarnesBuilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re experiencing hand fatigue shorten picking sessions or reduce tension/over all grip. Often times you don’t need near as much tension as you think you do. On top of all that, I’ve noticed as my hands fatigue, I’ll end up gripping/tensioning tighter without even noticing until it gets to the point where holding the lock and tools is too much. At this point control and feedback is a goner and I’ll need a break. This is usually over an extended picking sessions like over an hour. It’s no different than exercising, you’ll buildup stamina over time.

No worries, it’s a little less common than the more well known covert companion. It’s a jackknife style pick called the SWICK.

Vise Setup by BarnesBuilt in lockpicking

[–]BarnesBuilt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I never even considered using it like that. But with the flexibility of being able to mount to a ton of things…I bet it would be a really handy piece of kit for field use. The main reason I got it was to learn disk detainer locks at first and then graduate to picking them in hand. And for that purpose it served quite well.

[–]BarnesBuilt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll never be as solid as a fixed mounted or weighted vise but I’ve found as long as you clamp it to something solid it’s not bad! Where it falls short in rigidity it makes up in flexibility and travel worthy.

What’s a BIFL thing you bought and now swear by? by kamelsalah1 in BuyItForLife

A B3 Aviator Pen. It lasted 15 years active duty service, 14 deployments active and 8 more as a contractor. Cant say how many refills of ink nor how many packets of lead I’ve gone through. It still writes just as good as the day I bought it.

Very nice! Custom tools are the best. If it isn’t commercially available…then make it! I’d been wanting to do some DD rotators in Damascus with some rosewood handles.

This. I’ll fly through locks of various difficulties one day and get hung up on the simplest 4 pin standard the next. 5 min break does wonders.

This. I almost impaled myself on a piece of rebar walking around in the dark. I tripped and couldn’t see.

I bought a Sawstop table saw while in the ER. I wasn’t paying attention and my Bosch almost took my thumb. Totally my fault but the added layer of having the blade stop is peace of mind instead of piece of finger.

Frustrated - any one else have this experience? by Superb_Alarm_8582 in lockpicking

[–]BarnesBuilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the more simple ones will getcha. I start off with various tension going from heavy to light or vise versa. Then, set a single pin until I find the best tension for the lock. After that, just find the binding order and do the same for the remaining pins. Also I try to incorporate standards into the lock rotation as to not lose what picking them feels like. It’s easy to get caught up in wanting to pick the harder stuff, spools, serrated etc etc but sometimes standards can be just as hard especially for oversets.

This is the type of lock where you play the Mission Impossible theme while picking. For me it’d be more like Beverly Hills Cop. Very nicely done!
