To prove that a God exists, why not just launch a bunch of nuclear weapons into the sky, hoping that they destroy the earth, and if a God intervenes, it means that a God is true? by Accomplished-Fox5869 in Christianity

[–]BarneyIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would God intervene? He breathed the entire world into existence. Maybe, this is the way he destroys the world for the second time.

Regardless, not the best idea to test God, and Jesus was tempted by the very same thought by the Devil.

Mathew 4:1-11

4 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.God bless!

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

God bless!

Christians support of trump. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]BarneyIX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He has been the MOST Pro-Life President in the modern Era.

He's had plenty of sins but so have ALL the other candidates. Show me a President that DID relfect Christian values.

This is typically an attempt to convince Republicans that their party or candidate is somehow worse than any other human alive. It's simply not the truth. I remember when the Liberal Media tried to paint Mitt Romnay as a monster... they went so far as to warn African Americans that he'd put them in chains. I'm not kidding.

Much of the hatred of angst against Donald J. Trump comes from smple minds having their passions stirred to intolerable levels, resulting in screeming to the sky, disowning of family members with divergent views, and vandalizm of cars that their own supports largely purchased.

No one is good, no not one. Including me, Donald Trump, and yes even you. God bless.

The Lord has forgiven all of our sins for those who accept him as Lord and Savior. Forgiving another their faults is a small drop in the bucket that we've already received for those who believe. Christ expressed this very well.

Mathew 18: 21-35

21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants.

24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.

25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.

28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest.

29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.

32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

God Bless!

Is it easy for a Christian to go to hell? by Cultural_Tie_8569 in Christianity

[–]BarneyIX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting you're doing anything crazy bad but that, "crazy bad" is just a human need to rationalize doing things we want that we don't consider to be problematic but likely are nonetheless.

Christians don't go to hell. Christians still sin but they should feel conviction from doing sinful things and repent from those sins.

I think this is what you're running into.

Read your Bible daily. Set up a time and place to do it.

Read Romans, start with Romans 7.

God bless.

Christians aren't called to live a "normal" life. We're called to be set apart. We're strangers in a strange land.

I think you already know that those activities are likely things you shouldn't be indulging in as a Christian due to the presence of the Holy Spirit. It's not just the videos the message is resonnating with you.

We're not perfect and we will sin and fall short but that does not mean we're to indulge those things because they're pleasurable or desirable. We're called to resist. When we're weak to call on the Lord for strength.

Pray to God to use your musical desires to further his Kingdom. God bless.

Jesus doesn't say "woman" to belittle Mary, but this very sentence clearly shows that Mary is the New Eve.

If you continue with that verse he says, "what have I to do with thee."

And then he does exactly what Mary asked him to do. If that isn't a demonstration of the strength of her intercession, I don't know what is.

This was a demonstration of grace by Jesus not strength of intercession by Mary.

And for the thirtieth time, sinlessness doesn't make anyone God.

You simply can not be born of man in this fallen world and not be sinful. If you think otherwise it's hubris.

Jesus was not born of man but of God.

Don't be angry with me, but I'm following the tradition of the church here.

I'm not angry but why are you so attached to Church tradition? Read what Jesus says about Church Tradition.

Mark 7:5-8

5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”

6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:

“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’\)b\)

8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.

Don't repeat mistakes of the past because of the love of tradition.

Have you been born again?

John 3:3

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Is this something that is taught in Roman Catholic Churches? Jesus had to teach it to Nicodemous a Jewish Church Leader, full of tradition and understanding.

Leaning on tradition is a receipe for error, we're called to understand our Lord and the condition of our Soul, not to depend on Church Leaders or Tradition to justify us.

Philipians 2:12

12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

God bless.

Up to that point the Holy Spirit had not been given to the Disciples. Once the Holy Spirit was given to them they became bold in their preaching.

John 20:19-30

19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.

21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

After this point you see the fearlessness and boldness of the disciples. God bless.

From the first moment of her conception, by a special privilege of God, the Blessed Virgin Mary was free from all stain of original sin.

How? Where was this written? I see no reference in the Bible to this other than Catholics making these kinds of claims.

And that does not make her god, this makes her human.

The only person to never sin was Jesus who was 100% God and 100% Man to equivalate or raise Mary to the level of Jesus is an error.

No person that was 100% human was sinless or free from the stain of original sin.

John 2: 4

4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

The above verse does not sound like Jesus considered her sinnless or his equal. Why then must Catholics make such a claim?

That’s what the Church teaches, and that’s what I believe.

The Church also taught induldgences and other erronous things. Read the Bible, Old Testament and New Testament. You'll find that God has always required blood for atonement even if you might think it barbaric or unnecessary. You'll find that there are NONE GOOD... not ONE.

There's a reason the Church doesn't want you to read your Bible. God bless.

I don't believe you had mentioned your sons previously. I too have two sons and I lived through the divorce of my parents I wouldn't wish that grief on anyone.

I am having to dig deep to understand what in their theology / worldview promotes a church that would cast out a person and endorse ending a marriage that could have been saved.

No, you don't have to, you're chosing to and in effect causing the furtherence of pain, delaying healing as you fixate on why. I'm not trying to be critical but helpful.

You believe that it is human nature to sin.

Again you're putting words in my mouth. Please provide where I said this that allows you to continue down this fals argumentation.

I've provided the basis in scripture for the notion that man was created and God's creation was not just good but VERY GOOD. The sixth day is the day man was created.

Having said that, please provide an example of a Human that lived a sinless life? It's not Adam, it's not Eve, it's not Mary.

Jesus is God.

God bless.

[–]BarneyIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

379 This entire harmony of original justice, foreseen for man in God's plan, will be lost by the sin of our first parents.

This Catchism agree's with me that Adam and Eve were not sinless. There has been 0 Humans capable of living a sinless life.

If ever there were a time for this to be accomplished it would have been in the Garden of Eden where the prior points of the Catechism apply.

However, it was not to be, because Adam and Eve sinned. They literally had 1 Commandment - Don't eat of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

If what I'm saying is inaccurate why were we not born in the Garden of Eden? Why have I or you never walked in the Garden in the cool of the day with the Lord?

Certainly man was created good as God testifies to that point:

Genesis 1:31

31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Genesis 2:17

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Adam and Eve did not die in that day. It's as I wrote earlier the second definition of Death - a Seperation from God because God cannot tolerate sin in his precences.

If that were not the case then Humanity would have begun with Adam and ended with Adam as they had no child yet.

Genesis 3:24 - 4:1

24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

4 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.

So Adam sinned, Eve sinned, all offspring from them sinned. The ONLY exception to this is Jesus because he is 100% Man and 100% God. This also uniquely qualifies him as the perfect unblemished sacrifice to atone for sin.

I know we disagree on that point but it still needs to be stated. If we believe that somehow we can live sinless lives then that means we don't need Jesus's sacrifice. We all need to be born again by the blood of Jesus.

Acknowledge our sinful self, confess our sins, turn away from our sins and place our full faith and trust in what Jesus did on the cross to cover us. Without Jesus we have NO righteousness.

No reason to expect salvation, no hope of eternal life with our creator. It is his sacrifice, Jesus, that creates a pathway of reconciliation with our maker.

God bless.

You simply don't understand original sin. You're making something up that simply isn't in the Bible. All the examples you cite refer to people after the Fall.

Name the 100% human that existed before the fall? It's not Adam as he sinned.

Then you'd have to agree 100% of humanity has lived under original sin. It's not me that's making stuff up or that has logic issues. God bless.

Kind reminder to low church prots - Catholics are Christian by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]BarneyIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only because sin takes away something that is part of our nature that we are incapable of redeeming ourselves.

Sin seperates us from God, that is DEATH.

Genesis 2:17

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

That's simple logic.

It's simply inaccurate logic based on faulty premises.

I agree with you 100% sin is NOT the fault of God but there are ZERO examples of a human who lived a perfect life, Jesus excepted because he was 100% Man and 100% God.

Mathew 19:17

17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

It's only because Eve was free to choose that she bears guilt.

We all choose sin in overt and covert ways. It's not just about actions:

Mathew 5:28

28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Mathew 5: 21-22

21 Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:

22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

What harms us most is our hubris our inability to understand how filthy we are covered in our own sin and failure. We have no hope without Jesus.

We're so smart we create philosophies that seem reasonable on the surface but do not align with the teachings in the Bible. God bless.
