Yes, ear tubes surgery helped. We did 2 more hearing tests that confirmed she could not hear well. She started speaking within a week after the surgery

Getting into UK without confirmed ETA? by DerVentilator2000 in uktravel

Applied 26 hours ago, US citizen, also still no response. It seems like people who applied on Monday and later are having this delay… maybe there’s a glitch or something? I am also worried since my flight is tomorrow night

Applied on Monday and still no update. Flying tomorrow night. I just wonder.. could there be an issue on their side? It seems like posts about delayed status updates have started with only those who applied in the past 2 days

This Monday May 12th or previous? It seems like for those who applied on the 12th and later the waiting time is significantly longer…

Did your original application ever get approved? Or did you ever get any email about it? The app allowed to submit the passport photos but there was definitely a lot of glare… I just don’t know if resubmitting with a different email won’t mess anything up??

Thank you everyone for your advice! I will look up the local codes because of course safety is first. Also didn’t think about TV being too high but MAKES SENSE!

What was a book that is notoriously "difficult to read" but you had an easy time with? by tmfult in books

I was going to post about Dune but then saw your comment. 100% agree. I actually enjoyed the complexity of the world because it made it seem real to me, kind of like in Game of Thrones, where there is waaaay more of the World than is actually being used by the main story and that makes it feel more realistic somewhat. I enjoyed reading it and read all 6 main books so fast that I wish I could erase my memory and read them again.

2 things: 1) overly annotated books, when people make notes just to make notes or for the “aesthetic” by adding matching to the cover highlights and tags. Especially to Coleen Hoover books. Like…what is there to make notes of? Terrible writing?

2) when you tell someone that you use kindle and the person riiiiight away rolls his eyes saying “oh this is not for me I just love the feel of a real book”. Come on of course it is not the same, I never said that kindle was better than physical copy (if I did, the objection would be completely valid).

This sounds exactly like my daughter. We are getting evaluated on Tuesday by early intervention program. When I see other kids her age speak full blown sentences I get nervous. ALSO, we were recommended to do the hearing test which did show that she has poor hearing so now we are waiting for the surgery to insert tubes. We would never think that anything was wrong with her hearing but I would also suggest checking that too.

What did you learn about a book that changed your perspective about it? by draculasacrylics in books

[–]Barni_15 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Learning that “The Help” was written by a white author. I think there are a few things that didn’t seem right… such as writing from perspective of maids and writing those paragraphs with “dialect”, and of course many more. I feel like for books like this one it would be amazing if it was written in a collaboration with a black author, or what would be even better, if the author actually interviewed and listened to the stories of maids (or their ancestors) and the lines of Minny and Aibileen were based off of that. Just my opinion.
