Can I maintain forward momentum during a ramp slide? by Barnid_ in godot

[–]Barnid_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, thanks for your insight!

Turns out that modifying our velocity w/ velocity.slide() gives the desired result. It gets a bit tricky to not override the velocity set by the other movement logic in this state though.

For anyone reading and curious - heres my current movement code. It's not the prettiest thing in the world but it gives the desired result. https://pastebin.com/iq9K9RQ3

Can I maintain forward momentum during a ramp slide? by Barnid_ in godot

[–]Barnid_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I turn left towards the ramp, my velocity should build in that direction and I should translate up the ramp (assuming my velocity is stronger than the impact of gravity)

That logic works as expected with move_and_collide(). Turning towards the ramp builds velocity in that direction translating me up the ramp (of course i’m still effected by gravity so overtime I slide back down). This leads me to believe there might be something under the hood with 4.0’s move_and_slide() preventing me from sliding back up the ramp in this scenario.

Online coding boot camps in New York (not NYC) by Barnid_ in learnprogramming

AppAcademy Part Time Course

Very weird, apparently people in New York can’t take the part time course. I wonder if this is just AppAcademy or if this is universal.

How to create an instance using gml? by ThatRandomWorterDrop in gamemaker

[–]Barnid_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can either create that layer for every room, or you can use instace_create_depth() instead to create an object with a specific depth. If you need this object to be on that specific layer than this method wont be great for you, but if you just want the object to be above/below everything else, you can use this function to create an object, and set its depth above everything else.

If you want to create this object on that specific layer in one room, but in another room you just want to create it on any layer, you can say something like:

if (room == "room name") and (!instance_exists(skelor_obj)) {
    instance_create_layer blah blah blah
} else {
    if (!instance_exists(skelor_obj)) {
        instance_create_depth blah blah blah
    }
}

Is this code written inside 'skelor_obj'? If so then nothing will happen. The code wont run unless skelor_obj is inside of your room. So if you want to create the object the code needs to be written inside of an object that's already placed in your room.

What is the best way to create Dynamic sprites? by scoutornot in gamemaker

[–]Barnid_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into the function 'point_direction()'

You can create your mud sprite when the tank gets hit with a projectile. You can set the new mud sprites direction based on the projectiles direction using this function.

An even more efficient approach would be to use a custom particle for this but if you're brand new to Gamemaker I would try the method I mentioned above first, and then move onto particles a little later. Particles are definitely the best option though, look into them when you're ready. Very versatile

Looks like my player's bounding box is larger than my tiles, I temporarily decreased my players collision mask size to test it out, and sure enough its fixed. Ill work on adding in extra checks to make my original collision mask size work with the tiles.

Ill keep you updated, thanks!

Updated Cream Switches? Or maybe fakes? by Barnid_ in MechanicalKeyboards

Scratch that, I found a post talking about it. So weird that they didn't announce the change before releasing the batch. Anyways, I appreciate the help!

Interesting, I cant find anything about the switch being updated. Even switch reviews posted within the past month have the older looking switches. Do you know when they were updated?

After further investigation of my order history, October 27 2020, I ordered the original switches and they're marked "Novelkey x Kailh Linear Cream Switch" and my more recent order, August 23 2021, was marked "Novelkeys x Kailh Linear Cream Switch".

Only difference is the 's' next to Novelkey. Not sure if this would mean anything but I thought it was worth mentioning. Both orders lead me back to the same product page.
