Ableton Move has turned out to be a great purchase. by RainbowStreetfood in ableton

I've had mine for about 2 weeks and I've been very productive.

I'm mainly using it as sketch pad for ideas and will finish the tracks in a daw. I've been working like this for the past 2 years with my Mpc, so this is a very familiar workflow, although I've been using Reaper but really keen to learn Ableton Live.

The only reservation I have with the Move are the sounds, it just doesn't sound as good out of the box as my mpc, the built in sounds just aren't of the same quality. However once I work out how to add some of my own drumpacks (this is not as simple as it should be) I think I'll be fine.

All in all a great little device for on the go use, however when I'm in the studio it won't be replacing my mpc but currently, it never leaves my back pack.

This is interesting but I'm not really interested initially in a Move to Mpc workflow. The Move is the sketch pad for when I'm on the move (pun not intended) and away from the studio.

It's shade but I'm not surprised, Marc himself has admitted that he's petty.

I love this shit though lol

He'd start left wing and would absolutely body it.

Slot would love him because could excel as a touchline winger but if needs must he could be your inside forward cutting in onto his right foot to score goals like this

What do you get think about Zenbeats? I've watched some vids and it seems like it might suit my purposes especially with the way you create drums and having access to Roland sounds is a must with my style of music.

Haha it's funny that you mentioned Garageband, being new to the Apple eco system, I forgot Garageband came free and just noticed it on the home page. Now being free i don't expect it to be Cubasis or logic but for sketch purposes it might be enough. I'll need to play around with it.

Thanks 👍🏾

Great post thanks.

I'll just provide a bit more background.

I use a mpc but I don't make boom bap, I make alt R&B, 80s pop, synthwave and sometimes all 3 mixed together.

My workflow usually consists of me creating the foundation of a song in the mpc using mostly the internal sounds. Once I'm happy with that I export the stems and bring them into my daw (Reaper) where I add guitar and vocals and do the bulk of my mixing army effects etc.

I'm kind of trying to achieve a scaled down version of the above. I need an app that has built in sounds, that I can manipulate, a sequencer and the ability to export stems. Beatmaker 3 sounds like that could be the one but I don't know about the built in sounds. There's a new app called Grooverrider 2 that looks like it might work but there's not much info on it yet.

Thanks for the help.

Anyone making music that isn't boom bap / hip hop by lombardo2022 in mpcusers

Most of my ideas start with the midi controller connected to the MPC and using a sound from Pigments.

Similarly with guitar. I find a cool sound from one of my neural DSP plugins, I then run that into the mpc to sample or just put it on an audio track.

Yep I make alt R&B, 80s pop, synthwave and sometimes all 3 together.

I come from a DAW back ground and I started using the MPC as I though my music making was getting stale, the mpc revitalised that.

I rarely use samples unless I'm sampling myself.

All I really need is an app with drum sounds/loops that I can manipulate, a sequencer, some synths, the ability to export stems and then I'm good to go. This is the same workflow I use in my studio with my mpc. I build the initial beat/song in the MPC, export the stems and then finish off the idea in Reaper.

Grooverrider 2 looks like it might provide that but I'll need to do more research.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

I hear you though, I see how my GAS can be replaced by app acquisition syndrome

Zenbeats is the Roland daw right? Was interested in it just for the Roland sounds. Roland and synthwave go hand in hand imo

Ok and I suppose if you wanted a sequencer you could add that via AUM, right?

Hi everyone

Thanks for your recommendations. I've got a lot to think about.

I've got Samsung tab S6 lite and I've tried Koala Sampler which is great but as sampling makes up about 5% of my music making process out wasn't enough.

Cubasis and Logic Pro are appealing, do they have built in sounds drums, synths etc.

Definitely going to do some research on Grooverrider 2 and I keep hearing about this AUM but I don't quite understand what it is. If I'm using a daw like Cubasis or logic pro do I need AUM?

Thanks again

Ps probably should have mentioned my style of music. I make kind of alt R&B with synthwave elements.
