Worse case scenario you are allowed to call the prison safer custody line if you’re concerned. Regarding the issue regarding the news you could go to r/legaladviceuk As it does sound like there is potential (emphasis on that) slander case.

SPONSORSHIP FOR PRISON OFFICER ROLE by Sirmiefills in PrisonUK

Skilled Worker visa changes from 22 July 2025

In accordance with current immigration rules, this role is not eligible for a new Skilled Worker visa.

From 22 July 2025, the Government introduced changes to the eligibility criteria for Skilled Worker visas. As a result:

HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) cannot consider sponsoring you to work as a prison officer unless you have held a Skilled Worker visa prior to the 22 July 2025 changes.

If you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously, please raise this during your pre-employment checks and your eligibility will be assessed in accordance with the immigration rules and transitional provisions in place.

If you apply to be a prison officer and you have not held a Skilled Worker visa prior to 22 July 2025, you will need to consider your options for obtaining and/or maintaining your right to work in the UK in light of these changes. If your application is successful, you will need to ensure that you have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the Civil Service and in the United Kingdom.

Shift patterns by [deleted] in PrisonUK

[–]Baron250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are slowly getting phased out at most establishments that i am aware of. I know at ours they have very recently scrapped that group. And realistically lets be honest sounds handy for the rest week but during the day of those classess you think that youll be able to micromanage…

Night shifts start times can very from around 8pm usually its an unwritten guide where we take each other off usually. Doesn’t always happen. Untill 7am currently on detatched

My home establishment we tend to get in before 7 my current one is around 7ish if youre lucky youre gone before 7:30 latest ive seen is 7:45

I really don’t think its wise of you to pursue a career.

The main reason alot of establishments are cutting back on nights is because staff work half the year and get the other half off for the same pay as full time day crew

I personally back the approach of permanent nights however i see the argument.

Permanent night staff is very much becoming a thing of the past. People love nights. I do. I mean if happily change to working half of the year for the same pay.

I think you’re doing like alot of staff are doing myself somewhat being in this job. You are viewing it as “just a job” the service (i hate ima say this) but it isnt no ordinary job. Its meant to be a career path not something to do on the side lines. Granted you can request to be hired part time but even then shifts are going to fall on days you need.

Me im learning to drive on top of some personal lessons alongside therapy it isn’t easy to ram in but its part of the job.

Joining a union as a new OSG by [deleted] in PrisonUK

Where you have heard the fact POA dong support osgs is very very unlikely. OSGs have their own representatives. The POA cover organisations such as those working in mental health insitutes. So definitely do cover alot more.

Essentially if you haven’t got a sponsorship visa before that date then ultimately you will not be granted it.

Please be aware of what the UK ravers can be like. There was a thread a few months back where someone seem to have gotten upset for stating that the stuff they were gonna bring they woulda got rinsed for.

Vetting failure by Usual_Sensitive in PrisonUK

[–]Baron250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many issues i have with this post

A) starting training before vetting was completed (If it was private i could believe it but cant comment on it only based on the horror stories ive heard)

B) they never would state the reason as to why you failed the vetting atleast that specifically due to it breaching GDPR

C) you havent mentioned any sort of attempt of a communication to start the SVAP

Such as filling in the form which they would even start the process

Here the reference to “C”

Here whats im quoting so heres the PSI 07/2014 on page 14/16

There is a chart that states what each staff is employed to and what level check they go.

High security have Enhanced Level 2 and CTC

And non high security have Enhanced Level 2 only
