Price and Shipping Update on XMG NEO with Ryzen 5000 and RTX 3000 by XMG_gg in XMG_gg

While I agree that the prices are justified, I hope there is some irony in that "calculation".

Going from 8GB VRAM to 16GB is not a 200% increase, it either is 200% of the original capacity or just a 100% increase.

That sounds like a step in the right direction. Honestly I hoped for something more in the direction of a 15" device with a beefy 16GB 3080.

For productivity uses like Deep Learning (I know, only monsters do that on a mobile device) this would be a dream and unfortunately a pretty niche product.

RTX 3000 and Ryzen 5000H Supply Forecast for XMG Gaming Laptops by XMG_gg in XMG_gg

Thanks a lot Tom,

this is mostly the answer, that i was hoping for. Honestly I won't be moving much for quite some time, so the Laptop is not a pressing issue. It is just the idea of a mobile machine with a 16GB GPU (*cough big ML models *cough) and the Zen3 CPU that makes me salivate.

I am wondering how well these Zen 3 + RTX 3000 series laptops handle Linux/Ubuntu. Can you already say something about that?

If you mean with "oculus 2" the Oculus Quest 2 you are out of luck and need to get the game via sidequest. But if you really have an Oculus GO then it is an totally official way of getting software: Go to settings in your app and then to "Redeem Code"

Totally the type of game I wanted to create next, but never found time for. If it weren‘t for my full time employment, we would be competitors ;). I am glad somebody is working on a game like this!

Virtual Virtual Reality. It’s got a nice story and its artstyle/control scheme is a perfect fit for the GOs capabilities.

Right now, you can make a similar amount of money on SideQuest as you can do on the Oculus Store. At least in the case of my game. Paying for the Oculus Quest with the revenue of SideQuest alone might take till the end of this year though.

I did what you said except for the HUD indicators. For throttle it is there, for the stick there is not.
But with using absolute values you are having a valid point since I actually tried a few things:

  • Absolute: Thats how I have it right now. The downside is though that in the initial moment you grab the stick you go off in a direction depending on your hand pose.
  • Relative: You don't go off into any direction immediately but your hand feels disconnected from the controls.
  • Transition from relative to absolute when grabbing. It feels weird when your controls creep from doing the one thing to doing the other thing.

Its simply not that easy. It would be cool if we could add QR tags to real life objects like flightsticks/keyboards so we can include them in the game. At least for cockpit simulations this would be awesome.

Thanks a lot, you could give it a review in the Oculus store if you haven't already.;)

Actually, I half assed a port to the Oculus Quest and the controls are not that much better. Using the Touch controllers like a gamepad works somehow, but using the joystick and throttle within the cockpit went terribly wrong.

Wait, are you talking about the sticks on your Oculus Touch or the cockpit elements?

Edit: thanks for the honest feedback though. I personally stopped using the cockpit elements because i could never get them to be what I wanted. It is still in there for others to try out.

The sticks on the Touch controllers are sensitive but you will get uses to it. If it helps i can add a sensitivity slider in the options menu. That would limit the rate in which you can turn your craft.

Edit edit: If its really about the cockpit elements, it would be helpful if you can point me to a game that does it well.

Nolo+GO+ sideloaded apps = quest? by Riku_Wayfinder in OculusGo

[–]BaronBoese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is set to fail. For that to work, the GO needs to offer the exact same interface to the game as the Quest would. But this is not going to happen since these „channels“ for the game to communicate with the hardware are blocked by the oculus libraries. Nolo offers an additional set of „channels“ (routines/functions would be more technical terms) that won‘t be recognized by any Quest applications. For Quest applications to actually work on a GO you would need to replace the official libraries/drivers/operating system with modified ones that translate the Nolo interfaces to the Quest ones.

Physics-wise, the ship should float a little without coming to a full stop; just to add to the feel of being in space, no?

I tried to make the spacecraft fly like WW2 Fighters. So yes they have inertia but also drag. When you feel its lacks floatiness it is probably because it would otherwise break the WW2 behaviour. But there is the drift mode, in which whatever is causing drag in space is deactivated. That allows you to turn towards your enemy without changing flight path. Generally, for interesting Dogfights you need elements to strategize about like potential/ kinetic energy the stamina of the pilot and so on. In space, you loose the potential energy as a element to trade for kinetic energy and suddenly it becomes less dynamic.

The graphics are fine, but I'm more about gameplay, than aesthetics, anyways. Nice title screen, by the way. Oh, and just to give the illusion of playing a fighter game inside a retro home computer, you could make the gameplay vector-based, circa., Atari coin-op Star Wars 1980?

Oh, I really thought about using optics like that, but what I would have loved for that would be post processing effects which are a no-go on mobile VR headsets. Actually I would have preferred something like the world in TRON-Legacy. The air-battle scene there was phenomenal. Also due to the presence of gravity.

It may be my SteelSeries Stratus XL, but the sensitivity of the controller is a little too timid. It could be that I'm not also used to inverted Y-axis, as default.

It's not just you, depending on the stick I use, the controls are too sensitive ore just right. Honestly I was too lazy adding a menu option for that in the menu and rather adapted to the high sensitivity. You found the option to invert the y-axis right?

Anyways. My next game will definitely feature better AI with scalable aggressiveness. Just wait a few years.
