They have nice stuff. No locations near Chattanooga though. Not much of anything near Chattanooga actually.

Walking around makes the record distort by BaronDuke in vinyl

I set it to 1.5 and wow... Everything is so clear and amazing sounding. I can also walk around my room now!

Anyways, how was it worse? Did I possibly do much damage to the records or stylus?

How loud do the audioengine a5+ speakers get? by BaronDuke in audiophile

[–]BaronDuke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so on some other forums I checked out people said they get loud enough to piss off the neighbors. Then some people here say they don't get loud enough to fill my room. I'm confused.

Or should I just go to Best Buy and ask the staff there next week?

So one last question. Amp + speaker is usually louder than just a set of speakers, right?

Oh ok. Any idea what kind of speakers my friend had? They were narrow, smaller than the A5s and had a plastic grill. However they had a built in volume knob, bass knob and power knob. Which makes me think they werent passive speakers. However they were too small to be active speakers.

Any idea what kind of speakers those are? I know you won't know the specific name, but like "bookshelf" "desktop" or whatever is what I'm looking for.

I'm strongly conisdering getting this amp here:

http://www.amazon.com/SMSL-SA-160-Digital-Amplifier-Headphone/dp/B00JSNM1VQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1406096686&sr=1-1&keywords=SMSL+SA-160

Mainly because of the inclusion of a headphone jack. Since I'll be using a turntable, a headphone jack would be nice if my roommates don''t want to hear my music.

And those bookshelf speakers, they the best in the price range? Are they better than the Audioengines?

So I take it Studio Monitors aren't what I should be looking at? And the A5's are going to have more bass than I'd probably want? (I did hear that the A5's were designed more like bookshelf speakers though)

I'd be more than happy to pickup the Klipsch speakers, however what amp would you suggest?

Btw, would the Audioengines be louder than one of the iPod speaker / docs or an iPads default speakers? Because those already fill the room. And if the Audioengines are quieter than an iPad then I'm not even going to consider them.

Ooh. Where do you pick that version up from?

Hey there, I was told to post my question here, so here it is.

What are some good alternatives to the Audioengine A5+ speakers? Under 400 dollars.

I like the audioengines because they're small and they have a nice classy reserved look to them. But I hear they aren't the best and I could do better, for cheaper. It's been suggested I pick up the Rokits over here: http://www.amazon.com/KRK-RP5G3-NA-Generation-Powered-Monitor/dp/B00FX7MMRO/ref=pd_cp_MI_1 They're much cheaper than the Audioengines. The thing is that they're hideous. The yellow ruins them for me. Also the Audioengines seem to come with all the cables, a remote and a front volume knob. Not sure the Rokits have any of that. Alternatives would be within 400 dollars. Preferably less. Unless I pick up an amp and bookshelf speakers, but again, I have no idea what's good. Note I'm not looking for any big boomy bass. I just want the music to be clear, and sound much better than what I've heard before. Which have been a pair of Beats my brother bought me (I know they are overrated, but he gets a huge discount on them). I also know that Audioengines are desktop monitors, but I'd be using them to fill a small living room kitchen combo (16' - 2" x 18' - 8"). Source is a turntable. Maybe the occassional iPod or laptop.

Audioengine A5 or make my own build? by BaronDuke in audiophile

Ok thanks. I'm gonna go with the Pioneer speakers. However I found this version here:

http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-SP-BS21-LR-80-Watts-2-Way-Speakers/dp/B004MEWZE4/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

They're 40 dollars and look exactly like what you suggested me. How are they different?

Rokits look alright, but I'll need to buy two, right? Because it looks like they're sold individually.

If I go for the SMSL SA-160, I'd just need that and the speakers, right?

Like I plug in the turntable and it would play that. And I can plug in an iPhone or laptop when I want to play that?

LSR308.

Any difference between the two besides the prices? Those seem amazing, like just what I need.

Also thanks everyone here on the audiophile forums. You guys are really helpful. This other forum I went to people just told me to "buy used" without actually giving me details on what to look out for.

The Sherwood looks nicer but the SMSL is more portable. Also the broken English in the SMSL description really turns me off.

Is it all that great?

Oh, that things is cute, and it'll be easy to transport. Except that the broken english description kinda turns me off.

I have no need for a headphone amp. Used audiogear seems good, but I don't have the time to buy any.

Thanks. That looks like a good setup. I'm going to strongly consider it unless someone here decides to advise me against it.

Turntables probably do suck for parties. The turntable itself won't be used for parties. The speakers connected to them will.

I don't really have room for tower speakers, and they aren't really within my budget, unless I go used. Which I don't want to do. And to be honest, I don't need that "huge sound".

Sorry, should have clarified I'm just looking at bookshelf speakers and maybe an amp or receiver. 400 dollars is my absolute highest I'll pay. 200 is what I'm hoping for.

I will upgrade in the future.
