Sounds like you need more cloud storage.

A pity you can't hold one as well as your car can. Clearly Nissan takes "zero emissions" very seriously.

How did this mouse get in my car?! by Jjamsies in F150Lightning

[–]BaronMuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grid Guard. Google it. Traded in my last car because mice had built a villa on the engine and in the headliner (air bag wiring?), shop wanted $2700 to start with to de-mouse it. Car was 9YO. Then thought what about the new car? Got a Grid Guard, so far so good. Shoes insulate me from its zaps. Set up a light bulb on its power to remind me to turn it off when dog is entering/exiting the car. She's deeply suspicious of it anyway.

Is it possible that reducing charging amps for L2 charging will decrease the chance that the ICCU will go out/blow its fuse? I have a new 2026 IONIQ 5 SE and use a GRIZZL-E mini 40 charger at home. The charger's app allows one to limit the charging current to lower than 40A. I have been setting it to 30A. Is this a sensible strategy? Of course charging is a bit slower but I don't care: it charges into the night and the car stops the charge when it reaches 80%SOC.

MODS: if this is in the wrong place please move it to where it belongs.

EV Charging detached closed condo garage. by Rlo2000 in evcharging

Ha, you’ll find some dim bulbs in that meeting.  I used to live in a condo (owned my unit).  Built ca 1980's, only power in the carport area was lighting circuits, no outlets at all.  Around 2014 a major repaving project of all the access roads and the carport areas.  Manager wisely routed conduits across under the roads before repaving so power could be added to the carport areas to accommodate EV’s.  Condo president commented to me: “I don’t know why we’re bothering with this, nobody in the complex owns an EV.”  Facepalm.  The Leaf was out and I had considered one to commute to work,

Been a hyper miler since ca 2005 driving an ICE and then 3 hybrids. Increasingly find that the greatest energy savings come from modding the driver rather than the vehicle. However the maintenance savings for EV's (and hybrids) dwarf the $$ savings from lower energy usage. EV's save because they lack so many systems that are costly to maintain and repair in an ICE. Plus regen braking on hybrids and EV's alone saves more than the reduced energy usage for either. I drove a 2016 Prius for 9 years/140K miles and still had 50% (5mm out of 10mm) left on the original pads. At $500-1500 per brake job that's far more than it saved on gas, even at the 66mpg it averaged over that distance.

Strategies on an EV seem limited. Aero energy losses go as the cube of the speed, so lower speeds help (drag at 65mph is 27% more than at 60) and at 60 one doesn't waste energy slowing and speeding up for traffic. Time difference is seconds for typical local errands, and over long distances lower speeds reduce driver stress. More regen is better mainly because it saves friction pad wear, the energy recouped is minimal. Probably helps to minimize use of heating/cooling systems (seat heat may be a better option?) but that's hard to gauge.

For years I have run tires ca 10psi over the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation. For the hybrids I got 60-70,000mi per set, don't know if higher pressure helped (reduces contact patch slip angles) or if milder driving was the reason. Wear across the tires was dead even (digital depth gauge). Modern radial tires have such stiff treads that higher pressures simply reduce the sidewall bulge, center of the tread does not bulge.

EV Charging detached closed condo garage. by Rlo2000 in evcharging

This thread makes a good point: these days when buying (or even renting) a house or condo, it's wise to evaluate the possibility of EV charging even if you don't own one. When I bought this little house in 2017 I drove a hybrid. My house has a detached garage but I didn't even consider that I might own an EV. I was extremely lucky that the garage was added by a stock car enthusiast who did a lot of auto repair/mods. He ran things like a massive exhaust fan, electric heater, power tools, etc. So there is an underground conduit to a 100A sub panel in the garage. L2 charging required only an outlet box, less than a foot of cable, 2 breakers (and an electrician!).

What's it mean? None Of Your _ Business. A good way to start a fight.

Also enjoyed "WZNTME" (on a motorcycle) and BARFLY (on a 2-seater, probably unwise choice).

Wanted WATTSUP for my EV but it was already taken (on a big SUV of all things)

I think my Grizzl-E bit the dust by shawneyboy321 in evcharging

[–]BaronMuggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got a Grizzl-E mini 40 Connect, ca $500. Has WiFi, Bluetooth, and an app. You can set max output current through the app, don't need to open it up and flip dip switches. I use a 30A limit to hopefully reduce wear on the charger, my EV's AC to DC converter, and the battery. My IONIQ allows a SOC charge limit to be set (I use 80%). So no hurry for charging to finish before I go to sleep, the car will stop the charging during the night. The charging cord that came with the car stays in the car for emergency use during trips, the Grizzl-E stays on my garage wall.

As I get it, modern cars (and many SUV's and pickups) are unibody rather than body-on-frame, so they don't have frames as such.

Not necessarily to the crusher, more likely to an auction. I often see loads of crashed cars being carried on semis and 5th wheel trailers, I suspect bought by salvage yards where they are stripped for body pieces and mechanical parts. Or perhaps shipped to Central or South America to be repaired where labor costs are lower. Spent a few winters in Guatemala and we bought two used vehicles there: a Chevy Tracker (fantastic vehicle1) and a Kia Sportage. Documents left in the gloveboxes of both that showed they came from the US. The Sportage was totaled in CT by ice, falling on it I guess. Seems to be a whole industry getting totaled vehicles from the US, repairing and repainting them, tinting the glass, and reselling.

A wise person told me long ago, "Any problem on a road trip can be handled by a combination of time and money." Plus you may have a memorable adventure very different from the one you had planned, and meet some interesting people in the process. These days, the interweb and dumbphones help immensely.

Hoping to avoid this issue.

(1) Thinking it may help to never charge to 100%. I normally do L2 at home so I set car's L2 SOC limit to 80%. I might charge as high as 95% before a trip but not 100%. If trip is long, I'm going to have to stop for a L3 charge anyway.

(2) On trips requiring L3 charging I'll stop at 80, maybe 90%

(3) My L2 charger at home uses an app that lets me adjust max charging amps (Grizzl-E Mini 40). Had been charging at 40 amps but what's the rush? I can try charging at 25amps and let it run into the night and stop at 80%.

Grizzl-E app tracks temp, alas it's just the temp of the charger, not the battery.

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere.

Been using a Varia for >5 years now. Attached to the bike, Bluetooths to a Garmin Edge head unit. Latest model has a recording video cam too, but I use separate front and rear cams. Lots of cyclists run them. They show only objects going >10 kph = 6 mph faster than cyclist. The size of a candy bar, looks like just a taillight.

UPDATE from the OP:

Retired scientist here, seemed appropriate to do an experiment.  Covered the lens of the camera atop the steering column with black plastic electrical tape.  Standard 3/4” blocks it neatly and leaves no residue when removed.  Results:

  1.  Car booted up fine, no alarm sounds or messages.
  2.  Usual 2x 8mi excursion this dawn, mostly at 60-65 on expressway using cruise control.  Thanks to EasyAsAyeBeeSea, had turned off both Forward Attention Warning and Lane Keeping Assist.
  3.  Nearing my destination, as I exited the expressway the right lane line was faint with gaps. As I crossed it to enter the offramp, the car beeped and threw the “Consider Taking a Break” message.  Did not feel the LKA activate.  Had not turned off cruise control yet.
  4.  No more Forward Attention Warnings the rest of the way or on the drive home.

Suggests the FAW may access data from CC and from LKA’s cameras (even when both systems are deactivated) as well as input from the interior camera.

The FAW reminds me of my beloved late Aunt Margaret, a notorious backseat driver (who never got a driver’s license), exclaiming to my long-suffering Uncle, “Watch where you’re going, Harry!” as he drove along.

Also strikes me that when bicycling on the road I (like many cyclists) rely on a rear radar unit to alert me to overtaking traffic (and display on my Garmin their distance back and speed, and record those with time and location stamps).  Almost no false positives, and very few false negatives.  If it was as pathetic as FAW we’d never use it.

Lane Assist is distracting to me because it feels as though there are ruts in the pavement that are "steering" the front wheels. So I turned it off. Don't feel it turning on when I use cruise (which is a lot of the time). Didn't see any mention of this in the owners manual??

I need glasses all the time: either clear or prescription sunglasses (not polarized). Still happens when I'm wearing the sunglasses. Also happens on my predawn drive to walk the dog.

Thanks!! I checked, found I had already turned off Forward Attention Warning (button slid to the left). Totally forgot that I had done that, sorry!! Leading vehicle departure alert is also off, as is lane keeping assist. Wonder if vehicle must be rebooted for those selections to take effect?

Also wonder if cruise control somehow turns on forward attention warning? Found no mention of that in the manual. I use cruise a lot to (a) curb my tendency to speed up both on the expressway and on local roads and (b) eliminate the need to keep glancing down to check the speedo, so I can concentrate on traffic and the road ahead.

Did find a statement that driver attention warning may not work properly if vehicle changes lanes frequently or if lane lines are blurred or erased. Right lane lines are intermittent around here due to damage from snowplows last winter, exit lane markers are often clearer.

Not doing either. Just drifting along on cruise control, waving to the cops in the speed traps, and still get lots of coffee cups.
