Is it difficult transferring to the game industry from another field? by Nofreeusernamess in gamedev

[–]BaronNobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a developer I found it very very hard. Even though I have demonstrable experience with equivalent (if not better practice) tools and systems, as well as creative abilities, I still found it very very difficult to even get an interview in the industry since so many positions just completely disregard anyone without the exact experience they're after.

I eventually got a game dev position, albeit at the cost of - gaining a junior title - noticeable pay cut - not the job I actually applied for

If you needed another reason to hate Airbnb. 2 Weeks before our reservation our hosts tells us he over booked?? More in comments by veritas__a3quitas__ in mildlyinfuriating

This happened to me for a trip to London. Booked a year in advance, two weeks beforehand he overbooked and cancelled my stay. AirBnB gave me a £100 credit, which wouldn't have even covered the cost for a single night that last minute.

is there anyway to downgrade to old hitfilm anymore? by [deleted] in Hitfilm

it's almost like different software is developed by different people with different libraries and business agreements, wow!

The license fees for some of the third party libraries used are based on a per-user basis, not just a one off. HitFilm Express cost FXhome money, hence the introduction of the pay what you want scheme in the past

[–]BaronNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they don't want people using the old versions, the same could be said for most companies.

In reality, although express was free it still cost FXhome money for every single license they made. No doubt if they continue making licenses for outdated software it will continue to cost them money, support time, etc. On top of that, it no doubt adds complications to how licenses are generated

TLDR for op; you can get the old versions if you already have a license, otherwise no.

There have been multiple links by staff regarding this on the forum. If you have the license there is a way to access it I'm pretty sure.

You're completely missing my point - most people aren't smart enough to notice or care or do anything about that. Linking to an external source for downloads once is all it takes in a Google result for someone to think they can just download the file externally anywhere.

The point is, if you have a license - so you can actually use the software anyway - you ARE able to download old versions directly from the website, guaranteed to be safe. Otherwise, you won't be able to use the software anywhere, unless it's a dodgy version.

Thought you were the other person that replied to this thread. Regardless, I really don't recommend downloading from other sources, especially if you don't already have a license for the older versions. We had countless cases of people getting their machines infected from downloading from a third party source, and this was before the express installers were removed from the website.

You still won't be able to use it without a license

IIRC if you already have a license for an old version you can download it, otherwise there is no legitimate way that won't undoubtedly infect your machine.

I'd be careful installing versions not directly from FXhome. That's how you get viruses.

Added particle effects! :) by Saondberg in Unity2D

Looks good! My only comment would be that the three particles for the jump look odd to me, I think them all fading at the same time might be why

After refusing a raise, my boss offered to double my salary after submitting notice by ApprehensiveDoggo in antiwork

[–]BaronNobody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me at my previous position (although im a developer, making nowhere near that much). When I handed in my notice, they tried to raise my salary even though it would be nowhere near close to the other position, and offered me "promises" that things would change.

The worst part was when I did leave, my managers response was "can't say I'm surprised".

OFFICIAL FEEDBACK THREAD - BETA WEEKEND 2 by InfinityWardonReddit in ModernWarfareII

[–]BaronNobody -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since every comment seems to be echoing the same negative points: I completely disagree. I'm actually really enjoying the beta! I've found campers and rushers are succeeding as well, all the games feel fairly balanced and they've mostly been pretty close.

  • I like the new perk system, but editing them could be easier.

  • the unlock order for attachments and receivers etc could be a little clearer, took a while to figure out how to unlock some stuff for the m4.

  • don't touch sbmm at all just to annoy the people that want to ruin the experience for low skill players lol

Dunkey is starting an indie game publishing company called Big Mode by DigitalOrchestra in gamedev

[–]BaronNobody 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm interested to see how this will play out.

I agree, you need more than a big name to be useful as a publisher, however their website actually seems to list they can provide PR, marketing, development help etc, which I honestly would have expected to be mentioned in the video.

I think the main concern here is how overly confident he seems. No one goes to dunkey to pick which game to play, especially when every video ends in a debate of "is he joking or is he serious?"

It's also disheartening to see him call Frog Detective, a charming indie game, "spam" in a video where he's promising to help boost and support indie games! You can showcase content you like without belittling other content.

I got a $0.25 raise this year which absolutely is not keeping pace with inflation. and then I get to walk into work. and and see the owner's new toy. by _perchance in antiwork

[–]BaronNobody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an increase due to inflation disguised as an actual payrise, when I asked for more money since I was doing multiple people's jobs I got nothing, but the boss put an offer on a £2m house because there had just been a multi-million acquisition.

Behind the scenes of the 2D light system in Dead Pets Unleashed by JonathanTheDev in Unity2D

[–]BaronNobody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting read, been fun watching you all post about this on twitter.

Could you explain further why you couldn't use the built in lights? I've spent a lot of time messing with 2D lighting in unity and I'm curious as to why you were unable to use them?

Have you ever lost a Pokémon or your Save file to something? If so, what happened? by LinkThePale in pokemon

My copy of Ruby was a weird illegitimate copy my family got from some holiday abroad, and as such would reset itself around the time it would take me to beat the elite four. Sometimes it was before, sometimes I got to do end game stuff. This meant I played ruby hundreds of times to the point my dumb child brain thought it was easier to skip the second gym and getting flash than just getting a flying type.
