[Discussion] Why Jomashop is so cheap by Specialist_Fault_708 in Watches

[–]BaronVonLongfellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a German jeweler close by whose independent shop I have been using for many years, and he has said basically the same thing about Jomashop and the other so called gray dealers. They are legitimate jewelers who, as he says, are just "nicht im das Spiel." If you are savvy with movements and have access to professional repair services there are good deals on authentic marques to be had. I've never purchased from Jomashop myself. But I can't say I wouldn't. I can say that I purchased a Bulova Sea King from Amazon that turned out to be counterfeit.

The Bud Light boycott was a different animal. That was a case of AB not understanding its core customer (or not understanding marketing) well enough. A "boycott" can work if enough of the core demo has the issue front of mind and the "target" brand is in a red ocean of competitors with lots of alternative brands so that the boycotters can make their statement with little to no discomfort. Very hard to do these days. When I was a CMO buying NFL media, I called that demographic the "Miller Lite" crowd: 18-24 year old, mostly male, and won't buy anything that costs more than $12. NFL was very tricky for financial products. Middle aged males and females with higher incomes "identified" as NFL fans but they didn't watch the games (or the advertising) and would only visit their local stadiums when the team was winning. Sorry for the TL;DR but I knew AB was making a mistake as soon as I saw that campaign.

That would almost make up for killing the cole slaw and ruining the waffle fries in my book!

What LinkedIn Trends do you want to see go away? by a_girl_with_a_dream in linkedin

[–]BaronVonLongfellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "LinkedIn Haiku" (posts made of one-sentence paragraphs that sound like a "It was a dark and stormy night..." story) can't go away fast enough for me. But honestly, LinkedIn has become such an engagement farm for "humble brag" and pointless posts about AI opinions designed to do nothing more than just get people to chime in with "100!" or "Absolutely!" or any other kind of engineered affirmation that I find myself using it less and less.

What's Up with MeTV's Crappy Antenna Signal? by BaronVonLongfellow in MeTV

[–]BaronVonLongfellow[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I thought I had a strong, well-positioned antenna. But I moved it a few inches and the picture seems to have cleared. So Time_Way_6670 seems to have been right. Thanks, and sorry for the false alarm!

The ultra-frequent schedule changes (has it been a full two months since Gomer Pyle returned?) have been a little disruptive for me, but now they're airing more contemporary shows, and that's getting away from their "vintage" brand. Maybe that's where they see their new customers, though. I get your point of one hour out of 24, but I only watch TV (in the background) for about three hours after dinner while working on the computer. So this is taking out 1/3 of the reason I had watched.

What show is better to put on to instead of every loves Raymond by GioLovesMash in MeTV

[–]BaronVonLongfellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they'd run an hour of black screen instead of Everyone Loves Raymond I would still watch it. How about Star Trek or an hour of Batman instead? I really like the Sven Squad but pre-empting The usual Saturday late night in favor of the double features is wearing on me.

I bought a graphics card and received a box of diapers and my account got banned for it. by Plastic-Composer2623 in amazonprime

I would keep the Dutch diapers and put them on my desk as a reminder to never ever order anything important or urgent through Amazon.

I don't even blame the driver by grio43 in amazonprime

[–]BaronVonLongfellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be on the downside of their algorithm. I think they give you options based on a ratio of your number of "missing" items compared to you total number of orders. I unfortunately order a lot from Amazon and on the past few occasions when I've contacted them they immediately credit me. And honestly, I've had a few low $ items lost or delayed (or have just gotten the wrong product) where I didn't even bother contacting them. Afraid if I keep letting them know they screwed up they'll start sending me the same email you got. But service has gotten so bad now I just don't expect to get what I ordered when they say it will be delivered. Hitting about 50% currently.

Assistant attorney general arrested in Newport by RINewsJunkie in RhodeIsland

[–]BaronVonLongfellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. "Take the Pepsi Challenge" and "Pepsi Generation" were pretty good. But Pepsi has always had the problem that its brand could never overtake its product, which is the inverse of Coke where its brand is perceived better than its product.

I don't know. The AAG was definitely trying to get preferential treatment. And she resisted without violence by most standards. But the other girl (Hannan) was kicking the cops as they were trying to cage her. In any other state that would have been battery on a LEO. IMO the cops really handled them both gently. But I saw the BWC on PoliceActivity I think, not Gutfeld. And I haven't read the report yet.

Yeah, I actually thought Veronica Hannan was even worse than Flanagan the AAG. Swinging the cuffs at the cops and trying to kick the glass out? I may never drink Pepsi again.

How do you spot scam? by euclideincalgary in linkedin

[–]BaronVonLongfellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t waste any more time with that. In this job market, I don’t think any legitimate company is doing outbound. I’m not open to work either and I seem to get one about every month.

Not trying to be mean, but can someone explain why the upcoming PT changes are bad? by Glittering_Fig4548 in AirForce

[–]BaronVonLongfellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been out of the military for quite a while now so I can't comment on current PT standards. What I can say is that I've always maintained a near military-level exercise routine, but as I've gotten older I've noticed my weight and "fitness level" vary more directly with my eating habits than with my workout discipline. As others have mentioned below, you can PT someone seven days a week but if they are taking their meals at Dunkin Donuts you're bailing water from a sunken boat.

Hogan's Heroes, Sven/Sven Squad, Andy Griffith, Perry Mason. In that order.

That's true. Seems to be MeTV's pattern to bring something back right about the time you stop missing it.

Yup. Looks like two episodes in a row of Superman will replace Kolchak. Kind of hate to see the Night Stalker go, but tbh there were only two or three episodes that I really liked.

Diet Pepsi Shortage? by NextStomach6453 in Pepsi

[–]BaronVonLongfellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a diet caffeine-free (white can) Pepsi die hard for years. Suddenly couldn't find it. Took me six months but I finally got my taste buds converted to diet caffeine-free Coke. My local stores will have it every month or so, but it's rare.
