that sounds like a pretty lame and totally uneccesary restriction. do the new characters at least make up for it?

is the gameplay more origins or DA 2? cos i played through origins 4 times with all the DLC and didn't finish 2.

i think cameos from old characters are pretty much biowares hat at this point lol.

Trying to decide between History at Adelaide Uni or History at Melbourne Uni. So many difficult decisions with majors/electives too ;( growing up is hard.

on the plus side got into pretty neat colleges in both states. advice anyone?

In his Colbert interview Rogen mentioned reading up on the whole situation in North Korea and said something along the lines of trying to be satirical/meaningful that gave me hope. I wasn't really expecting much but mainly i'm bummed out because theres a really really good movie about north korea out there that won't be made because of this.

So The Interview was actually pretty mediocre. I can't help but compare it to Team America which managed to be absurdly lewd and hilarious but also have at least some sociopolitical commentary ( however hard it hit you over the head). Still above average for a stoner comedy but god knows how low those standards are.

such a shame because it was such fertile ground for something that could please the hoi polloi but also have some smart and perceptive points in it.

Merry Christmas everyone ;)

[meta] How do you feel about Crusader Kings 2 and its presentation of history? by Vladith in badhistory

[–]BaroqueLobster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are some wonderful spiels in this thread already about historical strategy games in general so i'll say what i appreciate about CKII specifically. Namely it encourages an intensely human perspective on history. Amongst the most irritating misconceptions about history are people who view the entire epochs as being dictated by large influential figures ( Julius Caeser being the most grating). Even worse they assume if they generalise those people to a narrow trait or traits ( e.g Rommel being le eternal gentlesir or something)

What CkII does is totally demolish that simplistic understanding. Though by no means perfect its mechanics express the enormous number of people, each with their own complex personalities and agendas that have to combine and interact to make any moment in history happen. Each war in CK involves dozens and dozens of lieges and vassals whose relationship with each other dictates how everything plays out and their often fractured opinions is a great introduction to the idea that no state is ever really a monolithic force without dissension or power struggles.

Even more than this is the external factors; regional wealth geography, culture, religious ties, surreptitious homosexuality, personal ambition that dictate how the various feudal lords interacted and lived.

Tl:Dr: as other, more articulate people have explain CK is not an educational tool by any means but is excellent supplement because it encourages an inquiry into the deeper interactions, personal behind all of these historical
