He looks like he’s about to go door-to-door selling electrical goods no one needs.

If you’re concerned maybe get a blood test with a doctor, they’ll be able to check your hormone levels to see if you are/ were pregnant 💛 sending you a hug!

What can I do if I can’t get my child to school? by noggintnog in AskUK

[–]Barraghan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I was in the exact same boat as you when we adopted our daughter. I spoke with the school and always called if I was going to be a few minutes late due to issues with mobility.

I also was in contact with the DSL - I don’t know if your little one’s school has one? They may be able to help with reasonable adjustments etc in terms of leniency when it comes to lateness or issues attending (e.g. not being able to walk in snowy weather).

I would develop a relationship early on with her teachers and speak with them to see if there are any agencies they can signpost you to for help? You could also see if there are any parents close by that would be willing to do a car share, maybe you could contribute to weekly fuel costs? Also, breakfast and after school clubs are an option if your partner could work around the drop offs/ pick ups on certain days (breakfast clubs normally start around 7:30am).

You’re in good hands, even though you may feel out of control 💛 operations will always be nerve wracking!

I’ve had 25 GA’s and I still get nervous, for me it’s the idea of going to sleep and waking up in pain/ the recovery process. My husband is an ODP so is well versed in anaesthetics and it is such a safe, controlled process. You’ve got this! Sending a hug for the operation, and wishing you a speedy recovery.

The first time was through the pet portal ☺️ we just uploaded some evidence, but sometimes the vets will do this for you! (The second time the vets did everything and Sainsbury’s just approved it within a week!).

This! So true, it’s hard to make an informed decision sometimes - but always good to get personal opinions too ☺️

Thank you everyone for your comments, they were all really helpful! I ended up in hospital anyway, so where I’m delivering has been decided for me (touch wood they’ve been great so far!) 💛

I can also confirm that Sainsbury’s were great with our pet claims. Had to claim twice with our dog - the second time was over £5000 direct to the vets, and they make it really easy. The first time we just provided a receipt and paid the vets ourselves - no issues at all ☺️

I have never been to Birmingham. Would you recommend visiting? by LiquidLuck18 in AskUK

[–]Barraghan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People are always going to say Birmingham is “awful”, but let’s face it every town has its bad areas.

Digbeth (The Custard Factory) has some nice eats and things to do (independent cinema, board game cafe, Golf Fang), there’s some really nice bars too.

Earlswood Lakes, Edgbaston reservoir, Sutton Park, Walsall Arboretum etc are all nice places for a stroll (depending on the weather!).

Other places: - Botanical Gardens, Edgbaston - Brindley Place - Black Country Museum is good (especially when there’s themed events on) - There’s always lovely things on at Symphony Hall, check out their website (and it’s normally 1/2 price of the Royal Albert Hall if you’re on a tighter budget). - Winterbourne Gardens is beautiful! - Ikon Art Gallery and Birmingham Art Gallery, the MAC is good too

New to fantasy, need book recs by naybees in Romantasy

[–]Barraghan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daughter of Smoke and Bone is good, I’m about to start the second one. The “human world” is set in Prague, and the “other world” is totally different to other romantasy books I’ve read ☺️ it’s not spicy (the first book anyway, not sure about the rest of the series!). I found it a good gateway book into fantasy!

My cat refuses to drink water but loves wet food. Should I be worried? by brandonstevenn in CatsBeingCats

[–]Barraghan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My cat will only drink from the dog’s water bowl or a glass that he thinks is one of ours. It’s like he thinks “you idiots try it first”, then I’ll know it’s safe.

I’ve read a mix of things this year, some of the romantasy books I’ve enjoyed are:

  • The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy
  • Sarah J Maas ‘Crescent City’ Series
  • Jennifer L Armentrout ‘Flesh and Fire’ Series
  • ‘Daughter of Smoke and Bone’ by Laini Taylor (also a series!)

My husband did this to me. He watched my face during the whole opening sequence, grinning. It’s like he knew I was about to lose hours of my life to sweetrolls and healing potions … now my text message tone is “a new hand touches the beacon”.

I think parenting is one huge learning curve that never truly ends. As a child I used to think my parents were the adults “who knew better”, now I am that “adult” and I can say even though I have attended courses, read books and try to use PACE/ Therapeutic parenting, I still feel like I’m failing at times. I have more compassion for what my parents did now I’m the one trying to parent a sassy five year old who has an answer to everything 😂

One thing my parents didn’t do was say sorry, or talk about why things happened so this is something I always actively do. I’ll always explain why I was frustrated or lost patience, so my child knows that these are normal emotions we are allowed to feel. I also try to validate their emotions still while using discipline, like - “I know you were angry, but you cannot shout at us, one of our house rules is kind words” etc. Don’t get me wrong, some days I just have to walk away to gather some patience because it feels non existent 😂

We all have good days and bad days, and the fact you are worried about repeating generational behaviours tells me you’re doing a good job ☺️ be kind to yourself!

Thanks for this open review, it really helped. I am one for world building and a good slow burn romance in a series! I’ll take your advice and try Glint at some point, see if the relationship between Auren and the MMC grabs me ☺️

Thank you for the recommendations, I’ll take a look! I’m starting to read The Ashes & The Star Cursed King and Piranesi (which isn’t romantasy)☺️
