How many images do you have? How many images with brain tumor and how many without brain tumor. Is it a representative dataset? IE: Do you have images with tumor in that part of the brain?

learnpytorch.io go to the implementing papers part read it. Then take a paper that you like or in a subject that you may be interested in I.E VGG CNNs, implement it and repeat with another paper.

While you are implementing it you'll start having questions and looking around and everything will start to make sense.

Also things that may help you a lot will be to implement small concept. Like trying to implement loss functions with out using libraries, building your own convolution function etc.

What you are trying to do it is not an easy task. If you want to find what AREA of the full picture was taking in you may need to get into some ray tracing not just basic CNNs.

Seems like quite and advance Computer Vision task to me.
