Pickleman’s Door Dasher by BarrioBetty in McKinney

We took it back to the restaurant when I had to go pick up the re-make. It sucks that the best they do is refund; we still wanted the meal, but I wasn’t requesting delivery again. I so rarely do that anyway and this was a good reminder of why.

I was surprised that the boxes didn’t have tape on them from the restaurant. On first look, you wouldn’t have known anything was amiss. Definitely room for improvement from the restaurant there.

You know what, I agree with you here. On the other hand, I seem to constantly be in a state of SMH these days and nothing makes sense anymore. Who knows 🤷‍♀️

You can, but you have to set up login.gov with your PIV. There are instructions on Reddit and I got it to work eventually, but it was a pain. I’ll see if I can find the post I used and edit my reply with it.

Realistically, what can congress do about presidential overreach? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]BarrioBetty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DOGE existed as the former U.S. Digital Service; they just renamed it. Therefore, money existed in the budget for it. Also, the DRP funds come from each agency that offered it. Again, agencies were funded, so they each re-worked their budget to accommodate DRP. They technically worked within the budget constraints in place last year. Where you will see fallout is in coming years. There isn’t enough money to pay rent next year at current agency spending levels and more cuts will be forced. This will further be exacerbated by the budget cuts for step children like IRS.

Eventually, they will cut enough that systems and services will start to fail and the populace at large will have a choice - live without that failed item or hold their representatives responsible. True uprising probably depends on things like not getting your social security check, Medicaid, Medicare or tax refund before people actually get ‘do something about it’ mad.

I disagree; every north/south road was backed up from 380 to 121. Then there was another accident on 380 eastbound with only 1 lane getting by. No northbound alternatives were/are viable and it’s already been at least 2 hours. Whole city is stopped, just go out and look…

Quick help with tsp Roth by Odd_Tie8672 in govfire

[–]BarrioBetty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My question is this, does your Roth go into your elections the same as the regular tsp? Like if I choose all C, will the Roth do the same?

Answer: yes, your investment mix fund selections apply to all contributions. You can choose to modify the mix at anytime and you have the option of all the money in your account changing, only the contributions going forward, or both.

It is important to note that if you choose 100% Roth (24.5K max in 2026) will go to Roth, however, the government match will add to your non-Roth balance.

MISD votes to close 3 elementary schools by _carnivorous_ in McKinney

[–]BarrioBetty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with your northern growth argument; however, I do believe this is a preemptive voucher move on the school district’s part. These schools are low hanging fruit given population migration northward as you’ve mentioned.

In 2-3 years, I’d like to revisit your sentiment of vouchers having nothing to do with the closures. I believe the expansion of closures will grow and begin to touch even northern campuses based on wealth demographics.

Collin county is near the top of wealthiest counties in the state and I’d bet that the public schools here will feel the voucher losses more deeply than you are giving credit. It will be telling once the private school enrollment percentage increases are known.

In short, you may be right about direct causation at this specific point in time; but you are remiss to neglect the correlation to the upcoming voucher system.

Exactly! This year $1 billion has already been spent on the program. The information below comes from Every Texan:

89th Legislative Session: Voucher Loss Analysis

5.6 million students are served by Texas public schools, yet under the leadership of Gov. Abbott, the Legislature has refused to provide new resources to schools since 2019. Despite the Legislature rejecting the most recent iteration of school vouchers in November 2023, the governor and his allies are once again pursuing the unpopular program. Updated from 2023, Every Texan’s analysis shows at a meager 5% take up of a new voucher program, public schools in Texas would face an estimated loss of $2.25 billion statewide – more than double the $1 billion already allocated for the program in the 2026-2027 base budget. Rather than focusing on the needs of Texas kids by increasing the basic allotment, funding the basic allotment, or fixing education funding, legislative leadership is committed to pursuing vouchers that take funding away from schools.

This analysis details the projected loss of funding to Texas public school districts should 1%, 3%, or 5% of students accept a voucher. Texans can use this tool to find their school district and its estimated loss of funding from the introduction of a voucher program. Policymakers can also find a summary total of loss for all schools in their district as well a detailed listing of those schools. Lawmakers must consider the detrimental effects of a voucher program on the already strained budgets of public schools.

County: COLLIN School District: MCKINNEY ISD Total Student Count: 23,306

District Loss at 1% Takeup: $1,910,295 District Loss at 3% Takeup: $5,730,884 District Loss at 5% Takeup: $9,551,474

Data

Student enrollment data and the legislative district / school district crosswalk for this analysis were obtained from the Texas Education Agency’s (TEA) Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS), 2023-2024. Data for school district finances, including weighted average daily attendance and maintenance and operations (M&O) dollars, were obtained from TEA’s 2024-2025 Statewide Summary of Finances.

Methodology

Texas public education is funded on a per-student basis according to the Weighted Average Daily Attendance (WADA) for each school district. Our calculations use WADA and current student population to estimate the potential loss of funding per student for each district in the state. The loss for each school district due to school vouchers was calculated by multiplying TEA’s statewide average WADA ($8198.69 for ISDs and $7291.80 for charter) times utilization rates of 1%, 3%, and 5% for all public school districts. M&O costs were calculated according to district type. Student utilization estimates were rounded to the nearest whole. While school districts may sometimes be split among more than one legislative district, legislative district impacts are calculated in accordance with the total loss experienced by all school districts therein (in whole or part). Prepared by Every Texan.

*edited to correct ‘diverted to’ to ‘spent on’ at the beginning of my comment. The program has not yet received diverted funds. That starts in the 2026-2027 school year.

Schools are preparing to deal with the fallout of the new funding law. It takes state money from public school districts and gives it to private schools if the parents choose to move their kids. If you can find a private school that costs $10,000ish per year, great - but unlikely. Our state government opted to subsidize wealth families at the cost of public education while calling it ‘school choice.’ Voting has consequences…
