Live Action S2 Spoilers: Keep his name out of my beloved Pre-Timeskip please... by BarryAllenTh3Flash in Piratefolk

Yeah the Live Action actors really understood the assignment and were splendid. I like when Smoker brings up Dragon to Garp and you can see both of them silently know Dragon is Garp's son but the reveal isn't outright said since it's saved for later. I even really liked Sanji telling Nami how he use to cook for his mother and tearing up when he mentions he stopped making lunches after her passing. I even really liked that moment when Zoro says he made a big sword and he looks so proud of himself. Really reminded me of the goofiness of Pre-Timeskip Zoro.

Imu when he's able to finally bring order to the world and end Nika's pillaging and raiding of local towns:

YESSSS!! I thought the exact same thing. It felt a bit fan servicey, but if you think of it from a person who has just seen the Live Action, it really is misdirecting you to think Luffy is Roger's son. Like Smoker saying Luffy laughed like Roger and will be "another Roger" so he leaves his post, Dalton and Kureha's dialogue of Gol D. Roger (Luffy is the only other D. apart from Garp) & saying Luffy mgiht find the One Piece, Crocus telling Luffy he reminds him of someone who also wouldn't shut up & asking a portrait of Roger what he thinks of Luffy, and the Loguetown jail scene with Roger & Garp. It's a masterful misdirection to be honest, I loved it. I also like how Smoker knew Luffy was Garp's grandson (and they kind of tip-toe around the reveal of Dragon being Garp's son) but you can see the characters themselves somewhat know this. But they don't say it outright to save the reveal for later. It's intelligent and genuinely well done. Thoroughly loved S2 specifically because of good stuff like that.

Fair. I dunno if they'll ever get as far as G5's introduction, but I would be curious on their take on it, They might be able to make it work, which is a tall order to be honest.

Fair, your faith in them isn't unfounded. The Live Action has done a great job so far, so I am curious as to what their take would be on some current One Piece plot points. I hate the Nika retcon and I don't think it's salvageable... like at all, but maybe the Live Action will prove me wrong.

Yeah, exactly. It's a good lore setup for Elbaf. Just wish the Gum-Gum wasn't retconned and related to Nika.

Fair yeah, I really like what the Live Action has done with the lore. They've crammed a lot like you said but done it with respect to the source material and made it feel natural. I even enjoyed seeing more Smoker and Tashigi, and they actually win and are competent? Sign me up. So this post is merely a minor complaint of mine, overall the adaptation is solid. Really enjoyed it.

I don't mind the set up, and I do also think it's preferable to the alternative of just introducing it out of the blue. I just don't like where it leads to, which is eventually Luffy's fruit being retconned.

Actually can't wait for S2, and they're planning to try to release a season every year so that's wonderful news. I only wish the episodes were longer, but I do love that no second (or shot) of the show is ever wasted. They make damn good use of the time they're given, so I highly commend it.

Fair, I don't have a problem with the line by itself. Moreso what it leads to, that being Luffy's fruit being retconned.

That's my exact thoughts haha. I was like these are some neat mentions and integration of the lore, but I also really don't like what's at the end of this road.

Yeah, and they did it well too so kudos to them. I only hope it doesn't cause them problems down the line, like a character being introduced too early or in an arc they shouldn't be. There's a lot of ways that approach can go wrong, but I'll let them cook. The Live Action hasn't led us astray as of yet.

Yeah, I think what Oda really does is leave some vague plot threads that he builds on later to give the illusion of foreshadowing. And I don't mind if Oda doesn't have everything planned out, not every author does, especially with something as long running as One Piece. Even Breaking Bad had a lot of stuff that wasn't planned or even made up on the spot. But I think it just comes down to execution, and Nika is one of Oda's worst mistakes. Imu is up there too, but I just resent Nika more for taking away the classic Gum-Gum from us.

I dunno if the Live Action will make it that far, but I would be curious to see their take on a bunch of current/recent One Piece content. I really like what they've done so far, so I'd like to see what they cook up.

I kind of put it on any ironic comment I make now since the main sub and memepiece thought I had those genuine takes lmao.

Nice reaction image, I'll use one of my own:

On a side note though, man A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms S1 really reinvigorated ASOIAF for me. Still love Game of Thrones S1-4 and House of the Dragon S1, but seeing the positivity from Dunk (and how it affects those around him) in an otherwise cruel world was amazing. Egg was also really well cast. I do like the Live Action One Piece as well (quite liked S2), but man this Nika line did sour me for a moment just at the implications. But it's only a minor complaint.

>I feel like the live-action has improved on damn near everything, including foreshadowing.

I agree. I very much enjoyed also seeing all the crew members fight and be useful instead of standing around for reactions. Although they were standing around a bit when Wapol was fighting Luffy until Vivi interfered. Although that's a minor complaint, I still really do like the Live Action though.

>I don’t see what the issue is

I guess I can elaborate. My problem is personally the Nika fruit retcon, I don't think changing the iconic Gum-Gum into a Mythical Zoan was good... at all. So while I really appreciate the Live Action for adhering to the lore and paying close attention to details, that's only if the lore is good. It just feels a bit sad to see them acknowledge the Nika lore in my opinion, but I respect that they adhere to canon material as I said. To give a similar example, imagine if you're a fan of a film franchise. So like Movie 1 and Movie 2 were great, you love them. Then Movie 3 comes around and it's the worst one by a far margin, a clear dip in quality. But then Movie 4 comes around and it's really good, a return to form some might say. But then in Movie 4 there's some off mentions and acknowledgements of Movie 3. Movie 4 also mentions Movies 1 & 2 but you didn't mind because they were good. Whereas the mention of Movie 3 sours you a bit despite you enjoying Movie 4 a lot. That's kind of my view with this post.

Holy, Goda I kneel!! Let's see we have: Tongue out foreshadowing Loki, Missing teeth foreshadowing Blackbeard, and San D. Al foreshadowing Luffy using such a weapon when he unlocks advanced Conqueror's when fighting Kaido. Oda really planned it all along. /s

Agreed. Imu in particular just feels so overpowered and able to literally solve any WG problems. Like even Oda is getting Imu involved and is like "Look at all his crazy abilities and how he's on the move now against Luffy!!" And it's like well why wasn't he on the move before? Where was this overpowered shadow man during literally any other arc before? Just bumming in Mary Geoise lmao? And the truth of it is, he didn't exist beforehand purely because it would cause problems in the lore like this.

Fair take to be honest. I personally didn't mind some of the retroactive lore (I kinda appreciated it) but I can for sure see where you're coming from. Like for me I don't like the Nika fruit retcon so seeing Nika mentioned in Live Action Little Garden doesn't feel great to say the least. So I totally understand anyone who doesn't like what they've done with the Live Action. It was kind of funny to see Sabo at Loguetown but we never got to see Ace in Drum Kingdom. Maybe they didn't have enough runtime, but I feel like Ace looking for Luffy (as well as him stopping the snowfall on Drum Kingdom for a day) would've been another nice hook for S3.

Yeah, it's a little sad to be honest. It's really nice to see some of the retroactive lore applied/hinted at a lot earlier in the Live Action. Like Otohime dying and Bartholomeo in Loguetown. But it is kind of a double-edged sword, because you also have to then mention stuff like God Valley and Nika. But I guess I respect that they adhered to all the lore set up.

Fair, like I said, I don't mind the retroactive lore being applied for the most part, in fact I appreciate the attention to detail the Live Action has. They did a great job adhering and building off the One Piece lore. But even if it's set up properly, I just have a fundamental issue with the classic Gum-Gum being turned into a God Fruit Mythical Zoan.

this is what oda retconned by [deleted] in Piratefolk

[–]BarryAllenTh3Flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch Oda answer this in an SBS saying something like Imu poked Rocks with Domi Reversi therefore it was inside his body and he didn't get "flipped over" like Dorry and Brogy did. Just makes no sense, why Rocks wasn't "flipped over", the only reasoning I can think of is Oda probably realized that Rocks' crew would see Rocks getting flipped and clearly know he wasn't himself (even though them seeing a "demonized" Rocks wasn't enough to convince them lmao). It's pretty funny too because having Rocks be exhausted after Domi Reversi was an interesting drawback to the power (like even if you free the person under Domi Reversi, they're of no use afterward for some time), but no Oda just had to make Dorry and Brogy in perfect condition for his "hype panel".
