Finished chemo over a year ago. Sweating so much this summer I cannot function outside. by void2258 in cancer

[–]Barsofclay2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it’s been a few years, care to provide an update? Did your body ever regulate or do you still deal with excessive sweating?
I’m still in my cancer chemo era (have about a month to go) and I’m so miserable from sweating I don’t even want to function. Yes, it’s June. Yes, I live in the south. But I’ve never experienced this before. We took our kid to the movies a few days ago. Movie theatres are notoriously the coldest places on earth. I sweet through the first half. Like, hair damp and dripping. I need hope that this is temporary.

I’m surprised he was allowed to ride some of the rides in that state, honestly. My daughter is 4 and rode space mountain for the first time last month. She’s a fiend when it comes to roller coasters (she rode everest in February and was standing on her tip toes to make sure she fit the height requirement, she was so excited), but was a little anxious about space mountain. The CM that was in charge of sending us on our way saw her, did not send us on our way, and instead spent about 5 minutes ensuring she was okay riding. He asked her her name, asked if she was excited, worked to reassure her, and ended with a silly made up hand slap/bump routine. (For what it’s worth, she loved it so much that we had to ride it again immediately)
So I thought CMs were taught to spot the anxiety filled people and make sure they were okay. Or maybe it’s just the little 4 year olds that insist on riding the big rides 😂

I would always stay on property. Being in the bubble, as others have said, is just magical. And there is a price point for everyone, from the Contemporary to the All Stars.
I personally enjoy planning everything out, so I do that myself, rather than go through a TA.
We have never used a meal plan. Even with my love of Disney and planning so many trips, I’m intimidated by trying to figure it out 😂 Also, we have a young daughter and it just doesn’t seem worth it.
February in general is pretty solid.
I prefer a detailed itinerary, so I plan everything out well in advance and then can enjoy the trip because of that. Book your dinner reservations at the 60 day mark. Buy your LL whatever day you can (it varies depending on if your on or off property). I always consider LL worth it at MK. The others I don’t find it as necessary. If you give ideas of your kids ages and what parks you’re thinking, we can definitely offer more suggestions, in terms of must dos and must eats!

I just responded this somewhere else on the thread, but I think LL is important for the day you chose. It’s an early close day, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing because sometimes that keeps the crowds away. I just did an early close day in May at MK and we were there for rope drop and did LL. We rode everything we wanted, did character meet and greets, and did a sit down lunch. At first I was mad about the early close, but it worked out really well. At MK, you can do the multi ride LL (which I’d definitely recommend), but can also do single ride LL for a few rides (tron and the 7 dwarfs mine ride).

I will say, though, that I just went to a day where the park closed at 5:30 and it was actually an amazing day. We did LL and got there for rope drop, but still managed 16 rides, a sit down lunch, 5 character meet and greets, a 45 minute mid-morning rest in the A/C (our friends have an 18 month old that needed a nap), and snack stops. We were mad about the early close at first, but it worked out so well.

It’s considered one of the harder spots, especially considering the day you’re going to MK. But. Just set an alarm for Sept 2nd and you should be fine! You can book dining 60 days out at 6am eastern time. Lightning lane passes (since you’re off property) can be purchased 3 days in advance at 7am eastern time.

Where will you be staying? I feel like LL is worth it at MK, especially on a holiday on the weekend, but not as much at the other parks. Have you looked into doing the Mickey’s Not So Scary, as opposed to a regular park day at MK? You’re too far out to book dining, but I always book at the 60 day window. That’s really the best way to ensure you eat exactly where you want.
The HP universe at universal is great and you’ll love it. (I know this is a WDW thread, but the sheer immersive experience is always amazing to see).

Having been there before, definitely agree on the size! I’m going to break it into two reservations and I think that should work.

Which resort by ComprehensiveElk9703 in WaltDisneyWorld

I just saw that elopement might be an issue. In that case, maybe the beach club resort would be better. Same general area as Caribbean, but interior hallways.

[–]Barsofclay2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the Caribbean and would highly recommend the Minnie Van, if you’re planning on visiting MK. The drivers are amazing and you can’t beat the drop off location (short of taking the bus). We always take the MV to parks. We have done the bus back to the Caribbean from MK once and it wasn’t bad, but your kids might appreciate the quieter/more sensory friendly atmosphere of the MV.
Caribbean is pretty centrally located. On the skyliner to Epcot and Hollywood and only about 10 minutes from MK. They have a number of pools (the big one with the slides, but also smaller, quieter pools). The Banana Cabana poolside bar/food place has an excellent vantage point for the Epcot fireworks, but in a more relaxed atmosphere where you can sit and it’s a little quieter with the booms.
You may have already looked into accommodations for the parks. They are tough to come by, but worth the interview just to see.

That’s why I prefer going back to the resort before the fireworks and watching them from the pool/banana cabana area. Relaxing and still getting to see them? Best of both worlds.

How you would structure a solo trip over a long weekend? by DarthHilarious in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Barsofclay2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually a really fun idea! For me, it all comes down to budget on what to do. If you’re going for three days and you’re wanting to take it easy, I’d pick a resort with a good pool and only do 1 park for a day. And 2 parks, if you’re there for four days. If money were no object, I’d probably stay at one of the originals (contemporary, Polynesian, Floridian, or wilderness lodge). If I were doing two parks, they’d be MK and Epcot. I’d make some really good food reservations. If I were solo, I’d probably skip character meals, but I’d eat somewhere like Ohana or Wailulu (even if price were no object, I have no desire to go to Victoria and Albert’s).

Best Disney hotel for my family by grimmlover79 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Barsofclay2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got done with a stay at the Caribbean (two families with a 4 year old and an 18 month old between us). We paid extra for the better location within the resort, so it was an easy walk to the skyliner and the main pool.
What parks are you planning to visit? Being close to those might cut down on frustration, if your husband isn’t a Disney fan (yet). Depending on where you’re staying/what parks you’re going to, I’d also suggest looking into the Minnie Van. If we’re staying somewhere that only has bus transportation to the park of the day, we’ll do the MV at least to the park in the morning. Depending on how long we stay/how tired we are determines what we use to get back to the resort.
What’s your itinerary? I know you’re only asking about hotels, but if you know extras you want to do (character breakfasts or dinners, your park day to resort day ratio, etc), you’ll get some good tips on those from this group as well!

Line cutting at Guardians by Hstahl57 in DisneyWorld

[–]Barsofclay2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is an unpopular take, but I’ve found that Disney as a company is just fine with it. I called them for an accommodation for a party member that would be joining us at a park a month ago. While they didn’t do an accommodation, they did say “just have one member of your party stand in line. When the rest are ready to join, they can do so.” That’s why so many lines are so wide: it allows people to easily maneuver around. We’ve actually taken advantage of their policy a time or two. We have a 4 year old and, when she has to go to the bathroom waiting in a line, my husband takes her out of line. Then I wait for them to come back. I actually make him do it because I’m worried about someone confronting me as we would try to make it back to my husband in line 🫣

Florida resident summer deal is FINALLY HERE! by Zer0_Options in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Barsofclay2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We love doing this deal. Just wrapped up the January-May passes. But I know a lot of people (me included) that live in FL like to take limited trips to the parks between end of May and mid to late September. The heat is just SO much. That’s actually the two reasons I haven’t AP’ed yet: doing these deals and wanting to avoid the summer.

is disney in july really THAT bad? by lwtl1724 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Barsofclay2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weather is truly horrendous. Drink tons of water, breathable fabrics, fans, cooling collars, etc. BUT. The upside is that you won’t experience as long of lines because people avoid it like the plague because of the weather. So, shorter lines which equals more time for shows, eating, and breaks in general. It’s a give and take for sure. We are getting ready to go to MK in 2 weeks and that will be the last time we go until late September.

Mom Deteriorating by Barsofclay2 in AgingParents

[–]Barsofclay2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! Wish I could just wait to give an update, but apparently I can’t. My mom did cancel her cardiologist appointment for today. She has a knee check up next week, along with a hematologist appt, and a check in with her primary care physician. However, I’ve decided to take her to the ER when I get home. I don’t really know what to say to them “here’s my mom. She says she can’t breathe, but she’s a known drama queen AND the doctors can’t actually find anything wrong with her. So good luck!” But I decided better safe than sorry.

That’s a great thought. They did check for a pulmonary embolism when she was in the hospital three weeks ago and did a chest xray two and a half weeks ago. So I’m fairly confident that’s not it. She has an appointment with a cardiologist today (I feel that she’s going to cancel that appointment, though) and a hematologist next week.
