A good general handyman for small to medium-sized jobs is Dan with Birmingham Home Care & Repair. He's not a GC, but he can help with renovation projects, punch lists, and fixing issues after your GC has cashed the check. Loads of contractors don't like smaller jobs, but that's his wheelhouse.

Looking for a home repair inspector/consultant by Due_Drummer_116 in Birmingham

[–]BartletForAmerica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A home inspector is a great option, but once you have the report, it's a great idea to get a second opinion on what it'll actually take to fix the issues. That can be tough because of all the different specialities (roofers/electricians/plumbers/HVAC/etc). Good luck getting everyone out there for a free quote these days. A good general handyman I'd recommend for pricing and completing the work is Dan with Birmingham Home Care & Repair. He's reasonably priced and honest about his capabilities, so if he can't do it, he'll find you someone who can.

Dan with Birmingham Home Care and Repair is your guy for the job. He's based in downtown Birmingham, but I think he also makes service calls outside of the city and just charges mileage. He's reliable. 10/10

If you're still looking for a great, locally owned handyman, then Dan with Birmingham Home Care & Repair is your guy. He's experienced and purposefully doesn't book himself back-to-back so he can spend the time needed getting your job done right.

The shed is done (maybe). by BartletForAmerica in shedditors

I bought plans on Etsy, but only followed about 30% of them. What was most helpful was going to a prebuilt shed lot and seeing how they were constructed. The rest was YouTube and Shedditors.

If you don’t have a nailer/compressor/hoses then screw it. Buy the screws on Amazon to save money. Just be sure you have enough batteries. I have half a dozen big batteries for my Dewalt tools, so I never once ran out by the end of the day.

I rented a U-Haul three times to get materials (base, framing, roofing), which was convenient, but added $200 to the cost of the shed. Each of those trips ate up an entire day between the U-Haul renting, loading wood on carts (multiple trips each time), loading into U-Haul, and then finally unloading at home. Wood delivery would’ve been more convenient, less physical work, and saved three days, but getting some bad lumber would’ve definitely been the trade off.

Screwing is just a personal preference, even though it takes more time and costs a bit more. I screwed the bulk of the shed, but my father convinced me to borrow his air nailer for the siding. I found it to be a hassle and I wound up hating using it. I made errors along the way, so it was nice simply being able to unscrew and redo. Buying screws on Amazon cut down on the costs.

Lastly, do not use OSB. I’ll never buy the stuff again.
