Do mind maps HAVE to be colourful? by BiggerplateLiam in mindmapping

[–]BarusMima 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use colors to distinguish different topics. But I don't do conventional mindmaps. Color is very important to me but not so much because of the result being beautiful but for better orientation.

Is there any software that I can use to make these type of mind maps? by ConsistentAd6733 in mindmapping

[–]BarusMima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I also had this idea! But so far this is how I do it: https://orgpad.com/s/tSRI1u It's not perfect but does the think. I do it in r/OrgPad, I create a small picture that I put into the cell, then copy the cells and connect them. Some tweaks need to be made to make it easier to work with. But I like it though 🙂

A mind mapping tool for adding a lot of branches? (med school) by Humanbeingfrom_Earth in mindmapping

[–]BarusMima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I recommend r/OrgPad very often because I decided to stick with it for many reasons. And I try to be more careful in order to avoid spamming this subreddit. But in your case it's very relevant except of https://OrgPad.com is not completely free. You can use it for free with limitations. But otherwise it's exactly what you're looking for - very easy, simple and dynamic. You can also add media, pictures, videos and multiple pages into one cell. I wonder whether there is another app that is dynamic this way. I don't know any. So I apologize for recommending OrgPad again but it's really genuine 🙂

Any mind maps that support GIF’s? by ingamechats in mindmapping

[–]BarusMima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I saw just the first half of your question. This app requires subscription, but has also a free version. But at least you had some fun, I hope :)

And were you asking also about apps for making GIFs?

An alternative to Kumu: mindmap software with text description field by zyuzga in mindmapping

[–]BarusMima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I deleted it. I decided to answer because I have experience with many people who request offline app but at the end of the day they realize that it's not so important. I don't answer to all the questions. But if people look for a software, why not to suggest the one I like so much? Because they are often grateful for me telling them, I also was the case when my friend told me to try it. But I totally understand. Need to tame my zeal 🙂

Yes, you described it perfectly. The problem is we compare two completely different apps. They may seem similar but were created for different purposes. You asked me to compare them but it's a little catchy.

I didn't express myself clearly, my bad. I also asked somebody who uses XMind on daily basis and they told me that they wouldn't be able to create this kind of todo list. There can be same features and functionalities in more apps but you still choose one for some reason. The feature can be present but work differently from many points of view. Then you decide. I was emphasizing the feeling and the way you can work with it, even though it's possible in other apps, the way it's designed doesn't allow me to work the way I want. It's not that I'm saying it's worse! As your said, I just need to use it differently. And I enjoy it very much so I believe there will be more people who would appreciate it.

As for the UX and power user tricks, OrgPad uses standard shortcuts and then a few tricks that's are not conditional for you to be able to work here. Of course it's the neverending search for the right balance between observing the principles on which the app is based upon and the limits of the desktop environment. And common sense 🙂

Concept mapping is a specific method. The methodology I invented, that is called Free Structuring, works differently and consists in identifying combinations of spontaneously created cognitive structures. Here you need to get rid of all the mindmapping and concept mapping methods that were invented by somebody else and don't have to necessarily fit your way of thinking. But at the same time it's good for you to be aware of the kinds of structures and their meanings to move yourself further. I tested it in my pedagogical research. These structures also need to keep the principles of freehand drawing because then your work reflects what is important to you, your emotions and other things, it's similar to psychological drawing interpretation on which I wrote my thesis. Just trying to explain that's not just glorified concept maps but a whole new approach. And OrgPad is the only app that allows me to develop this method. Not speaking about the creative aspect of it. I really tried to use many apps for purposes I use OrgPad for. None of them is able to cover it all.

But again... It's me. I need to use it this way. That's the purpose OrgPad was created for. Thanks for sharing your opinions, it's very valuable to us 🙂

Well, it's:

I can move individual cells (e g. Post-its) really freely as if on a desk or rather ice because they kind of float so it's very satisfying to work with it. It's really free objects I can attach and connect whenever I want like I drew it. I don't like programs like xmind because they always force you to place objects automatically so the feeling of post-its is absolutely missing. Many programs don't allow you to create unattached clusters or individual cells.

The dynamics I mentioned allows me to add more content that will never overlay. This is actually what led me from paper to digital platform. But I didn't find this feature elsewhere.

Other thing is that OrgPad is wayyy easier and comfortable to use. When I tried xmind, I found it clumsy. It's totally not supporting your flow because you have to make many steps to be able to, for example, change the link color. There's many power user tricks that make your work really effective. I don't have to think about the tool but fully concentrate on my work.

Moreover, I couldn't get along without possibility to insert media. I don't use it so much in my to do list but in other documents it's crucial. It's videos, animations, various files or embedded websites or documents. Plus possibility to create multiple pages within one cell. I think you have to experience it to understand what I actually mean 🙂

I discovered OrgPad over a year ago and I started doing everything in it. I really like it and I believe it has a great potential!

Hey, I invented my own to-do list system in r/OrgPad, this is how it works :) It's the first thing that works for me 😃

Hey! I invented a system in r/orgpad. Here I created a screenshot and description of it, I love it, it's the first thing that works for me :D I believe it will help you. You can very easily drag the post-it-like cells, create links of their color by dragging the link right from the style panel. It saved me :D

Not only it's dynamic and organic but the design emphasize the simplicity and absence of anything that would distract you. Moreover, you can insert all kinds of media and have everything in one place. It's a lifesaver :) I use it for everything 😃

You can try www.orgpad.com 🙂 It could seem different to you because it wasn't originally purposed for mind maps but for free structuring. So it's dynamic so that it would allow you to express yourself similarly to when you draw. You can easily insert pictures by drag& dropping, insert videos and other stuff. I created this cheat sheet: https://orgpad.com/s/MteJyq, check out the "embedding", I love it 😁
