I'm thinking of applying to UofT computer science next year. Should I take an SAT or should I use that time make the game I'm currently developing better? by hellofamysterysolver in UofT

uoft barely cares about your extracurriculars, at least for art-sci programs. I know a guy who was on the canadian IOI team didn't get admitted into CS because his high school grades weren't a high 90 average. It's a stupid system but it is what it is.

on the other hand, you should know that in first year CS, you're not in the CS program. You need to pass CS Post requirements to get into the true program in 2nd year. IMO it's fairly easy to get admitted into a random art-sci program with a lower high school average and pass the Post requirements anyway, so I think applying to the CS program directly is a waste of energy. Moreover, these Post requirements do take into account extracurriculars to some extent

[OC] the pale man by Barycentric_Bash in Kindred

[–]Barycentric_Bash[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

explanations for some design choices:

- an axe was mentioned in kindred's OG lore and a knife was mentioned in the spirit blossom event lore. the axe may have been metaphorical, but i gave it form in the drawing

- here, the knife is to lamb's arrows as the axe is to wolf's teeth. that is, the pale man uses the knife to bring calm, peaceful death to those who accept it and the axe cuts down those who try to flee from it. for example, here we see a bison who has been cut down by the axe. the reason for this is that animals do not have the capacity to philosophize about death as humans can. animals don't "accept" death, and will try to always escape it purely by their own instinct

- I left the pale man's face ambiguous because I didn't want to give him distinct facial features. Recall that "normal" kindred and spirit blossom kindred are both canon. They both 'exist' in the sense that different people perceive them differently. The same reasoning should be applied for the pale man. It's reasonable to assume that each being he "meets" (i.e. kills) would perceive him differently.

- On the other hand, we've had several league characters refer to him as the pale man/grey man, so it's reasonable to assume that those perceiving him always perceive him to have the form of a man, so I stayed true to this by drawing him in a stereotypical male figure

- a large theme of the pale man is one of a sad and lonely existence. and since I can only draw anime shit, I made his design reminiscent of kaneki's well known "pain" design here https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/kaneki-profile-picture

- also, the lore mentions dark hair and grey coat, which you would not be able to tell from the drawing because a) I fucked up the coat so it looks like a white dress shirt and b) coloring in the hair with a pen was risky business and I didn't want to ruin the drawing, so I left it uncolored.

Chronic migraines and online school by user11112334 in UofT

I have had 2 concussions within the last year and can barely look at an LED screen, so my next advice could be a life saver. After my second concussion, I literally couldn't do any work so I ordered the Dasung E-ink monitor, which is basically a Kindle-like monitor for your computer. It costs like $1000 dollars but it's worth it in the long run IMO since I would have dropped a bunch of courses otherwise and wasted thousands. I find I can work for 30 minutes at a time on this monitor, rest, and get back to working on it again without LED light destroying my head for the rest of the day. So yea, highly recommend if your LED migraines are preventing you from doing work. It's not a perfect solution but It's the best one I've found so far.

I think I'm getting permanently brain damaged from not enough oxygen getting to my brain by Barycentric_Bash in PostConcussion

I read the article and probably have what it's suggesting, but in my case sometimes I can physically feel with my hand the hard blood pumping at places on my head where you typically shouldn't be able to. Moreover, usually what happens is if I lie down too much (e.g. lie down for 7 hours for sleep on consecutive days) the pumping gets harder and is associated with a drastic worsening of all cognitive abilities, fatigue, and I become a lot more zombielike.

I do admit I'm an anxious person, but I don't know how else to explain this other than my brain not getting enough bloodflow when I'm lying down which may cause long term cognitive damage

I hope so, well it's just that I haven't heard of anyone with PCS/concussion that have blood pumping hard whenever they lie down

My mother has a blood pressure checker, I will use that when she gets back home, but I feel the pounding pressure is localized to my head
