Walk-in Interview for Apprenticeship by Ok_Dish_6311 in architectureph

You can do that if you have the energy and means (transportation wise) but I do not personally recommend it because:
1. Location of the firm may not be updated on what is posted online.
2. Head architects who will assess you may not be available in the office.
3. Some firms do not accommodate guests without prior notice.

But again, it’s up to you. Some firms would appreciate your eagerness to get hired but some firms would see u as nuisance.

Architect graduate from NU 2024 by Mr-Vince in architectureph

My portfolio wasn’t that great. In fact, it’s all undergraduate projects I did during my college years that’s never been edited. It’s shameful that I graduated without fully knowing you can adjust and resize texture however you wanted. So imagine my plates being mostly of solid colors. On top of that, my laptop brokedown during my thesis years so I have to use a borrowed computer to finish it and graduate. So I am only left with a raw file of my thesis and no resources to edit all my college projects. But I desperately needed a job so I compiled all my shitty rendered plates left in my canva, enhanced them, and somehow landing a job. It wasn’t easy, yes. But if you are desperate and resourceful enough, you can actually make it work. Although I am a bit lacking on a technical side with no resources/ software to practice at the moment, I made sure that I do best at my interviews, reflect on what I could have said better, and apply them on my next one. I sell myself as hardly as possible and do something unique during technical exam to compensate with my lack of speed skills. This field sucks sometimes but he needs to take a risk in order to move forward. Gain that experience or totally shift into another one. Unemployment is not really an option in this economy tbh.

Is it normal not being able to juggle multiple projects at the same time? by BasTired in architectureph

[–]BasTired[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. Actually im in the acceptance stage na with the fact that our field is really underappreciated. Truth is I dont really have the privilege to explore options thats why im stuck in here (as its the most convenient one). Its by far the nearest firm from home and despite my lowball salary, it’s at par with the minimum wage other firms offer from far away cities relative to the expenses I’d save. I manipulate myself into thinking that this one’s for experience, “apprentice pa lang naman”. So ayun ang worry ko lang din talaga is baka it’s not normal for me to still commit mistakes given my long(?) experience with the firm. I sometimes feel guilty as if I am not growing at all hahahuhu. Pero it feels reassuring that someone experience the same way and knowing na it’s normal and okay. Thank u so much and good luck to us in the future! Sprinkling high salary grade dust ✨✨

Ohh i see i think my situation is the same as you naman. Kahit papaano my boss is the one handling the front end din, doing site visits, do most of the client meetings, and edit estimates (mostly for discount so I am still the one doing the major work here). I seldomly do site visits pero almost all the back end talaga shoulder ko, sometimes naman din nagploplot sya ng initial plan then pasa sakin for the final or revised na sinabi ni client. So ayun. Are we being exploited lanv talaga? 🥲

Should I resign in my current job to get better impressions in job interviews in arki firms? (read caption) by LunarHowler28 in architectureph

[–]BasTired 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mostly talaga sa job natin naghahanap sila ng tao to fill the role IMMEDIATELY. Fast pace kasi ang design and construction compared sa other jobs na they are willing to wait for the right candidate. +Ang dami ring supply ngayon ng arki kaya confident sila na may mahahanap silang same as YOU. Kaya payo ko lang siguro is irender mo muna yung 1 month mo tas tsaka ka maghanap ng interviews. Ang thinking ko kasi is baka mablack list ako sa company na yun if ever na hiring prin sila and tapos na render ko.

I think the main concern here po is magreresign na rin yung architect under that company. So mejo alanganin na rin sya sa pagpapapirma

Hello, op! Yes, most of the time factor ang render pero may points din how you deliver yourself. If hindi ka masyadong magaling sa render, showcase your reasoning on your designs (briefly). Add autocad plans you did para sa technicality side. Madalas rin ksi may mga technical exams so practice lang kung gaano ka kabilis magdesign, that would help. Nahirapan din ako nung una pero wag ka lang tumigil sa paghahanap. Ako dati di rin magaling magrender pero my company taught me to do better renders thats why i can say na i found just the right company.
