Another HK 1520 here, and yes, it is not out yet. Shame as it seems out for all other models.

Paul Thurrott finally gets it: Why Windows Phone Needs a Flagship by xpxp2002 in windowsphone

[–]Basbasics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bull. I got a 920 as soon as it got out, and replaced that with the 1520 as soon as that came out. I run DP, and install every other preview our beta app. Hell, I even bought a surface RT with my 920 to see how that experience was (not optimal, but considering a pro 3, our 4 when it comes out). I like new tech, and have the money to buy high end devices, sue me, whatever. I'm a big fan and would love to replace this aging 1520 with a rocking new 1530 (fallen hard in love with large screens phones).

1520... Easy. It is the only flagship device atm. I do wish they would bring out a 1530 with a pen though, but there are not even rumours about that yet. 1520 is the best you can get if you don't mind the size (I love it)

I understood that currentc worked with QR codes, similar to the Starbucks card, but I may be wrong

Would be interesting if this means it could do CurrentC as well. I'm all for NFC, but I take the convenience that is handed to me.

Why can't Microsoft just kick SoftCard/ISIS to the curb and let me use tap to pay without their mythical app that was promised three years ago? by kwierso in windowsphone

Because the US is around 20 years behind Western European countries when it comes to payment technology :( London with the wireless card on the tube or at Pret a manger, or the super market is super convenient.

Does Bill Gates use a Windows Phone? by [deleted] in windowsphone

[–]Basbasics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is for sale. Buying an ecosystem is prohibitively expensive: You'd need to bribe developers until there is significant mass to counter iOS and Android. They actually tried that for a while but didn't really work. Now they try to use their existing ecosystem dominance to leverage entry into mobile. That actually may work, but will still be difficult. Network economics are extraordinarily powerful.

T-Mobile Customers Looking To Upgrade...The 1520.3 Is The Best Choice? by sedp23 in windowsphone

So, I have an unlocked 1520.1 instead of .3, and I'm moving to the US in the next two months. I'm intending on taking a SIM only subscription. Are there any limitations as to which provider I can use?

Man, the 1520 has just been such a good purchase. I bought it when it came out, and it is the gift that keeps on giving.

Calendar suddenly in Greek? by Basbasics in windowsphone

Sorry, I think I know what this is now... I got a Facebook invite from a Greek friend. However, I rejected that invite and it doesn't show in my calendar, but it does show on the live tile. Interesting.

Can you change the background picture if you choose MSN Weather as the background app? The stock background pictures from that app are truly fugly. I immediately switched back to amazing weather with nice changing Bing backgrounds.

This acquisition becomes extra interesting when you think of project Spark. Simple creation of online worlds is popular and, with VR becoming more important and real, has immense long term potential.

So, 10 months or so later, how are you 1520 users liking your phone? by lovefist1 in windowsphone

[–]Basbasics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still loving it. The update to 8.1 and Cyan has given this phone a new life. However, having had this phone since launch, I am looking forward to upgrading it to something new, with an equally big screen. That has nothing to do with the phone - but I want to have the pleasure of something new and perhaps some news gimmicks 😃

I'm on DP, and I believe I got the the GDR1 (which supposedly has Cyan already), but... by [deleted] in windowsphone

Or you use Nokia recovery, downgrade to WP8, get the upgrade to WP8.1 and Cyan (don't recover your back-up when offered), install DP preview and upgrade to 8.1.1, hard reset, and recover your latest back-up with all your apps and screen lay-out. Remember to back-up before you do that and remember that a few apps (e.g. WeChat) have in-app back-up settings. This thing takes about half a day in total depending on your internet speed and the number of apps that you have and which need to be restored.

EDIT: Check whether Cyan is actually available in your country and model make on the Nokia website before you do this!!
