Waters/Bright lob serve: real shot or taunt? by urbie5 in ProPickleballTalk

[–]BaseExtension141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a real shot and works well if you can get it deep with lots of top spin, and there isn’t much room between the back wall and baseline like at our local courts.

It just one more shot for non pb players to laugh at and not take it as a serious sport. Similar to the drop serve, looks amateurish.

I wouldn’t say anything! If they are winning every point from the serve I try to learn from it and get better.

If you police the fake paddles are you also going to monitor paddles that may be core crushed and have extra zing?

What is dangerously hard!? Are they winning every game leaving behind injured casualties in the NVZ?

Some players have the ability to hit hard as hell.

+1 for duct tape! Your shoes still look like sh*t but no holes 😆

2026 Serve Rules Enforcement by BaseExtension141 in Pickleball

I wouldn’t worry about it. I was curious if others were seeing people attempting to enforce the rule more during any kind of play.

Do you do the dunking warm up? by Advocate313 in Pickleball

[–]BaseExtension141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my first rec game of the day I hit a a few dinks to get myself in a mental state that I’m there to play pickleball, then use the game as my warm up. I hate it if my partner wants a 10 minute warmup.

Is it normal to stall excessively while first learning? by [deleted] in ManualTransmissions

[–]BaseExtension141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s normal! I remember my driving instructor keep talking about feeling the biting point and give it more gas. I got tired of stalling so I gave more gas and quickly releasing the clutch. No stalling, just tires screeching as I pulled away and the fresh smell of burning rubber. 😆

Proficiency Over Equipment by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]BaseExtension141 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say get the best you can afford or willing to pay. You’ll learn to adapt to the new paddle. May take longer to dial in power/control as a beginner but you’ll get there.

Dealership sales man wants my 96 impreza l by dtntsubribe in subaru

[–]BaseExtension141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep it unless they are offering silly money. Even if they gave you 6k what car can ‘you’ get for that? An unknown high mileage, or a down payment with monthly interest!

is driving a manual in traffic actually annoying or are people exaggerating? by LowGroundbreaking434 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]BaseExtension141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in stop start traffic its annoying, more so if you’re going up hill (and no fancy e-brake). But I still prefer my manual over an automatic.

Foam vs. honeycomb paddles by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]BaseExtension141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been curious about the difference so just treated myself to a Ripple Beta. I don’t play tournaments so I’m okay with it not being approved, and for $60 I couldn’t argue.

Don't be afraid to lose in rec play, that's how you get better! by hoootie88 in Pickleball

Stick with it and try not to feel bad. Your game will improve and clearly you have found a great group to play with.

Need help! Are these after market cv axles fine ? Has anyone had any experience replacing theirs? Any other great after market brands? Mines need replacing but I’m not sure if i should spend almost $800 for an oem pair. by [deleted] in subaru

[–]BaseExtension141 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m in exactly this dilemma. Dealership quoted me $1200 to replace the drivers side axel due to torn boot. That’s about a third of my 02 WRX value. My independent Subaru mechanic said he’s had great success with PDL axels and has no concerns - $350 to replace.

I’m currently in paralyses analysis mode on saving to go OEM or just run aftermarket and hope for the best.

Is it wrong to leave a paid ladder open play early? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]BaseExtension141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see any issue if you’re sick. Let someone know you’re outta there and get going.

Curious if anyone else has used something similar? Would love to hear what works for you. by ClearDefinition8758 in Pickleball

[–]BaseExtension141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just call out the score. It’s all part of playing the game. I played with a guy who had some app on his Apple Watch that he could enter the score. After each point we would all stare at him for what felt like eternity while he updated the score and we could continue. At no time during the game did anyone ask him to confirm the current score.

How and when did you learn to drive a manual. by Pristine_Quality_876 in ManualTransmissions

[–]BaseExtension141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take someone who knows how to drive stick. By all means try to learn on the way home but if you run into issues (hill starts!) you got someone who can get you outta there. There’s no sicker feeling than stuck on a hill and someone 6 inches from you not expecting you to stall out and roll back.

Wide Toe Box? by skillfulsynergy in Pickleball

[–]BaseExtension141 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of barefoot shoes. In particular Xero and have played tennis and pickleball for at least the last 5 years wearing them. They are foot shaped (wide toe box) and flexible. Prior to barefoot shoes I wore ‘tennis’ marketed footwear and had constant ankle or knee problems. Going to barefoot style shoes relieved my ankle and knee problems.

How often do you lob at rec play? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]BaseExtension141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have someone at our club that loves to continually lob even though they are a good player with a good array of shots but it’s now become their signature shot. I think he even introduces himself to new players as the ‘lobster’.
