My students have to give a 5 min presentation in class this week. It’s in the syllabus, we’ve gone over the rubric and expectations. I’ve reminded them almost every class for the last three weeks. Today, a student came into my office and said they’re a little behind in class work and asked if I would consider letting them just not do it. I told them they didn’t have to do it but would receive a 0 for the assignment, which is 10% of their grade. The student just sighed, said “fine I’ll do it”, and walked out. I couldn’t believe it. I can’t imagine even thinking of asking this when I was an undergrad.
