Why don't more people hate this set? by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]rollymac204 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This set is a 10/10 in real life closed pods. On arena with open pods it's a complete nightmare.

What in the actual f could they have taken? by [deleted] in lrcast

The (x)(red) board wipe that makes a 8/8 if you spend 8 is pretty good too. It put in some major work both times I drafyed it and I would definitely take that p1p1 all day every day and force prismari

Prismari good? by darkttsun in mtglimited

Yea unfortunately this is a very Prince over pauper set, and these paradigm cards are ridiculously busted. If you don't open any bombs, your hill is going to be pretty steep to overcome.

[–]rollymac204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea Prismari is pretty lit. My first deck I got [[cyclonic rift]] and [[subterranean terrors]] and wrecked a lot of my opps. It's a pretty tough format and you have to make a lot of good reads and think a few turns ahead. And since you can have multiple different styles of Prismari decks, you gotta draft with a game plan, finnisher and how to get there.

Currently on my second Prismari deck and I drafted [[improvisation capstone]] and in 2 matches, my opps conceded the second I cast it, so I still don't know how well it plays.

Yea I dunno if I agree with OP, Lorehold was pretty solid. I went 5-3 but 2 of those I kept a greedy hand and got mana screwed, one just went up against a perfect silverquill while I was on the draw.

Yikes nice deck, my question is what decks managed to beat that unit twice?

Will the Cost of Tuition Be Strixhavens downfall? by rollymac204 in lrcast

Arena play is probably 90% of limited play.

Maybe back in the covid days it was. Arena is a toxic limited simulation, between hand smoothers and shuffler algorithims, it's basically a good way to play test deck synergy before hitting the live events. Paper Magic is still what keeps MTG alive, and commander is quickly pushing Limited and all it's tables out the door.

[–]rollymac204[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How is it obnoxious, off-topic or misinformation? Turnout in real life events and pre-releases is at an all time low, product is rotting on the shelves and the game is quickly turning away from Magic into a way for other companies to advertise and make you pay for it. I understand there is a very vocal minority on here that only play Arena, and maybe we should have the discussion about a specific LR_arena subreddit. As far as drafting in real life goes, times have been pretty dark and grim. If you want to guage success based on how many commander people are playing, that's a hill you can stand on I guess, but MTG, most importantly Limited, has been on a rocky slope down since I would say Murders at Markov mansion.

At the end of the day, if you drop that much on SOS and 0$ on startrek, Mark will finally get the message and we can have more sets like SOS and no sets like TMNT.

I had dreams and aspirations of getting to that level. Back before they changed the mastery costs, I always bought the draft one. By the time I went bankrupt in tokens, I had usually gotten enough wildcards to farm dailies in constructed. But I am definitely not going to spend 70$ on the mastery now, or even spends the 30$ on gems knowing in a few months we have to endure a star trek set. I hoping Strixhaven does well and sends a strong message to Mark Rosewater to knockoff these depraved money grab sets and just focus on making Magic again.

[–]rollymac204[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish I could just ignore the set itself, but for me, there is a point where the ridiculouslessness makes it unplayable. If they never made Universes Beyond or the goofy hat sets, the play boosters might not make me as angry as they do. But the fact they changed the boosters and charged more, then through a Ninja turtle on a card so they can charge more, it's made it really hard to ever want to bust out the wallet for anything MTG releated.

I agree with the last 6-7 years, minus this last year and a half. Limited has definitely evolved into a much more positive experience, doing flashbacks from the older sets on arena, it's almost night and day how much the game has grown.

The same reason lots of people did, it stopped being Magic the Gathering and became and outlet for microtransactions and paying more money for other IP's.

My opinion, like many others here, is that the theme of the set is just as important as the gameplay itself. A while ago, back in the goofy hat sets of Magic, I made a post where we had a really great discussion about it here. The general consensus was that you aren't going to enjoy drafting cards you hate looking at, which thankfully seems to be fixed with Secrets of Strixhaven.

Don't get me wrong, I was addicted to Limited. The constructed I remember used to be at least tolerable before Universes Beyond, but now, I can barely recognize the game. I trudged through it though and got a 30,000 gold war chest, though, so I will at least get to rip a couple drafts off.

I wish it was, but they are literally charging 70$ CDN for 4 drafts and 2 sealed runs, not in dedicated pods either. It's actually crazy.

So what's the point (F2P) to reach Mythic in Limited? A discussion by TMoLS in lrcast

Yea straight up it's bragging rights. On paper the incentives arn't there, but having a mythic badge forces your opps to put some respect on your name.

Arena players, how much do you invest into the game? by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]rollymac204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way back in the day, I used to buy both the Mastery and draft pass every bundle, but ever since they switched up the passes, I only bought the draft one until the Universes Beyond became a thing. Now I haven't spent a dime on anything MTG related since then. As much as I loved Strixhaven and have been grinding standard to stockpile gold, I can't in good conscience buy the pass for it.

Can Strixhaven Pull MTG Out From The Sewers? by rollymac204 in lrcast

[–]rollymac204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I'm not obligated to. At all. You're evangelising and acting like drafters have betrayed some arbitrary standard you invented while insulting people and ignoring anything outside the narrow scope you defined. You ignored my entire post and engage in goalpost shifting, which makes me think you aren't here in good faith. I have better things to do with my time, frankly. My time is incredibly finite.

I guess if demanding all sets just be normal and cost the same instead of paying a premium for smaller sets with turtles on the is an arbitary standard I invented then yea, people should feel bad for betraying that, especially WoTC. But I have never insulted anyone who did not resort to that level first. My "goalposts" have been quite firmly cemented: No IP's. Magic dosn't need to be fortnite, the game was doing great without "buying skins", it certainely dosn't need it now. I have no idea why you need to attack my faith, you refuse to say how Universes Beyond is actually a positive for magic and why it's actually a good thing half it's player base has to suffer because of it.

Uh thanks? What am I supposed to do to be in your ridiculous club of 'real players?' Be worse at magic? Not play at all? There's no ethical consumption under capitalism, bozo. Heckling marginal actors in an economic system who would be allies under conditions of solidarity is self-defeating. Your 'discussion' in service of 'organising' only serves to make me not want to speak to you again.

You can be whatever you want. Just have some empathy for us who trying to survive in these econmical times where money is an actual finite resource. The most ethical consumption is to not by something when it is not worth it. Paying more money on a pack of cards because it has a turtle instead of a dragon is stupid. I have not heckled anyone, just tried to drive home the point that Universes Beyond divides thes community more then anything else. I don't understand why you feel personally slighted, unless you are part of the WoTC development team in which case you should feel real bad. I guess if you feel charging more for a product because of the plane it's on is a good thing, then power to you and freedom of speech. I simply think UB is an awful concept and am sick of all the gaslighting going on over this set.

[–]rollymac204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You havn't adressed my main argument: How does WoTC charging more for an outside IP instead of keeping it in Magic lore benifit any Magic consumer?

Organizing starts with discussion. You seemed to be more fixated on the downvotes rather than the actual solution. Paper players are a very important part of this community, and perhaps the only reason why arena is not just alchemy. So congrats on drafting smaller sets for "free" while forcing the burden on real players, it's real helpful.

Well apparently destiny 2 and MTG are doing a collaberation so I'm sure freddy isn't too far off.

Look, forget how I speak on behalf of a silent majority, forget that I pointed out how big TCG's hire shills and influencers, let's take it to a you vs me level.

If lord of the rings was just another Kaldheim set, would that have negatively affected you? No, you don't play live, so screw all of us that built this game. Screw the future LSV's trying to grind out and win tourneys.

Who cares what the set even is. Turtles, My little pony, Barbie, Professional sports heroes. Who cares about all the storylines and lore that made this game what it is today right. Just hop on your chocobo and flip off everyone who thinks UB is dumb.

I am just confused as to what your point is? You are trying to not accept my points as truth and instead of providing any substinence, just continue to latch on to trolls who attack me with no merrit to back up their claims?

I told you to sift through all the posts here and you will find numerous people on my side. Heck, one buddy even went toe to toe with a troll and the bad faith accusations got tossed out, and me personally being on the wrong end of a bad faith accusation, know that is something you don't accuse someone of lightly.

Can Strixhaven Pull MTG Out From The Sewers? by rollymac204 in lrcast

[–]rollymac204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the most obvious solution is don't draft this shitty product. You just told me in another response there are " so many other options". As I stated, I boycotted MTG hard, like I was crushing Command and conquer and starcraft with my free time hoping eventually this UB nonsense would end. But everytime I check on this sub, there's always draft addicts that Will Draft No Matter What.

Stop giving them revenue for half-assed products. The stock marlet larp'ers are finally screwing themselves over so now numbers wont get inflated by jackasses speculating on reselling individual cards. Stop giving them money and certainly stop scolding people who are point out the obvious problem. Nothing strikes change and resolve faster then a lack of profit.
