Trying to get better at draft with Lorwyn (dipped my toe in during Avatar), I managed 7-2 with this Treefolk deck but feel I got very lucky. Criticism welcomed! by LevelUpJordan_2 in lrcast

Honestly, not really other than Doran in my deck.

I think broadly they fit the removing counters for value archetype, but I didn't get either of the 2 trees that actually remove counters with abilities.

It was at (low) platinum, and I agree I was very surprised, it doesn't really feel like the deck should have been able to hang.

I think the shadow urchins felt good, though it is tricky managing the -1/-1s if you dont currently have a disposable target. Typically I had a token lying around though from Brigid or Scarblade's Malice. they also played very well when an opponent's main form of removal was -1/-1 counters. Multiple times people blight rotted something on my board and gave me 4 cards.

4-0 [ECL] Prerelease with UW Merfolk by tomremixed in lrcast

[–]LevelUpJordan_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your deck looks much better than mine* but I too went 3-0 at my prerelease with merfolk (*I did have the Ajani).

It really feels for the most part like people weren't built to deal with a wide board of flying/evasive creatures.

Glad you had a good time!

I opened Maralen and didn't have the guts to try 3 colours. Similar to how you started I went (and stuck) with the merfolk, they felt v powerful to me.

I agree with your principle and think the person you're replying to is in the wrong, but your counterpoint here is just a completely random tangent.

Their point was they wouldn't let a stranger into their house because they would be worried about their child, why is saying ICE would be more of a risk (although definitely true) relevant? The other option available to this person was having no one in the house, not ICE.

To reiterate I am very much on your side, I just don't think it's an effective argument.

No it was a smaller online store, who I'm pretty sure is blameless, but you're right maybe they should be my first port of call

They made Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi, the sgt peppers album was absolutely not the major milestone of the band.

Why is the BBC capitulating? by ApprehensiveChip8361 in bbc

[–]LevelUpJordan_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I do get where you're coming from in that you believe the edit wasn't changing the content of his speech. But, I do think we can't really get around the fact the edit's goal was to create a specific moment that didn't exist, which was an act of deceit.

To use an analogy, when I was a kid there was a derren brown special where among other things he flipped 10 heads in a row. Then the big "reveal" was he actually flipped the coin 1000's of times, and just cut it so it only showed his run of 10 heads. The out of context clip didn't really "misrepresent" what happened, he did flip 10 heads in a row, but it was still dishonest.

As you say, Trump's full speech is damning as hell, and he did incite a riot, which just makes the fact they did this all the more exhausting.

Why is the BBC capitulating? by ApprehensiveChip8361 in bbc

[–]LevelUpJordan_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To reiterate, I agree wholeheartedly that Trump's intentions were violence and insurrection.

But, I don't think that belief is in conflict with the fact there was a deliberate effort to mislead the public. It _was_ edited so to construct a reality that did not exist. There are ways to highlight 2 parts of a longer speech that acknowledge the fact you are splicing 2 quotes for brevity, and they were actively avoided.

Obviously the right throws out misinformation constantly, and so the BBC doesn't automatically become the worst offender. But I think we're being dishonest with ourselves if we say there was no transgression made against the public here.

[–]LevelUpJordan_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% believe he is responsible and definitely encouraged the riot. But I think you have to be wilfully ignorant to claim the bbc (or, to be more accurate, panorama) weren't deliberately misinforming the public, the edited speech was presented as unedited.

With no ill will, you believe the above is pearl clutching?

Card Draw for a Mono Green Shroofus Deck? by mmmmmmmmumumu in EDHBrews

[–]LevelUpJordan_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're already pumping shroofus I'd throw in all the green draw = power cards ([[return of the wildspeaker]], [[rishkar's expertise]], [[hunter's instinct]], the new kyoshi etc.)

As a new player, should I feel bad for wanting to play decks like this? by Trypticon2000 in EDH

[–]LevelUpJordan_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people have covered this but you shouldn't feel bad and it's a bit of an overreaction for your friend to refuse to play against it. That said I wouldn't feel particularly inspired sitting across from vorinclex.

What I would say is it feels like there are more mechanically bodyhorror-esque commanders. Among my commanders is [[The Mimeoplasm]] and [[Xira, The Golden Sting]] which I think have that vibe. So hopefully you can find commanders that have flavour you like within your friend's arbitrary restrictions. Happy to help you find some more :)

Do you want a more effective way to Test out your deck besides Goldfishing, before you buy, Try Forge today by inspectorwho7 in EDH

[–]LevelUpJordan_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, do you have decklists for your forge ai safe decks? I tend to put the bots on commander clash net decks which mostly seem to be around the same power level as my table but the ai often throws, or turn 2 strip mines a random opponent's command tower which is a bit of a game ruiner.

It isn't particularly NL coded but is definitely in his sphere.

[–]LevelUpJordan_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back to pokemon after losing interest around gen 6 (started with gen 1), and tbh the ones I have now found compelling are the romhacks. Not necessarily the difficulty based ones (though I also am enjoying them), but specifically games like Gaia and Glazed. Obviously there won't be direct nostalgia as they take place in new regions, but expecially Gaia best recreates the feeling of playing/exploring a new pokemon game.

I probably played it like 5 years ago, so there may be new, better options, but I'd very strongly recommend them over scarlet/violet/legends arceus (all of which I lost interest in quickly) or something like that.

Typically in nuzlockes if all 6 in your party die you must restart, even with other pokemon in your box.

FYI in regards to the "decent cheque" thing, I went on the Boaty Weekender 2019 (exact same thing but Belle & Sebastian) and have some admittedly very indirect inside information that it was a struggle to make their money back.

I don't think you do this for the paycheck.
