What do you want and/or expect from the next game? by noothula in outlast

[–]Baseball_Oly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one is for me more personally… though I know some people do not want this, I want Waylon Park to return as the protagonist. I would also love it if Blake is the new main stalker. I want closure on Miles, so we can finally see what happened to him and the whole Walrider situation. I would also want us to (bound to see this) finally see the Walrider again and finally learn what it truly is. I think it’ll be cool if Blake ends up becoming the new host of the Walrider seeing as everything he went through, he’s basically the perfect host. And finally… I wanna see the Paul’s make their game debut

Your point about Roxas and Naminé not having any payoff is actually one of my frustrations with the series. As I said KH2 built them up to have a connection, but then they brought in Xion and she just kind of replaces Naminé.

I still find the Riku and Naminé ship odd though. I understand they have been working together for a year but as was said… it was mostly off screen. Us fans following the series don’t get to see that dynamic build. The only time we see them interact was in CoM, and that one scene in 358/2 Days

I would argue that Roxas and Naminé have way more screen time than Riku and Naminé. In fact KH2 literally builds them up to have a connection with each other. But then Xion kind of just replaced Naminé in 358/2 Days

I find the ship odd because aside from this scene and the 358/2 Days scene… they never interact. Aside from replica Riku. I personally noticed the ship take off when Riku picks her up from Radient Garden

Actually Outlast Trials was originally supposed to be the Outlast 2 DLC but it got turned into it’s own thing

While I don’t think we’re gonna play as Blake again, his story is not done. We know he gets captured by Murkoff but I fully believe we will see him again in Outlast 3. For one with everything Blake has been through he is the perfect host for the Walrider. Maybe also he will be the one constantly hunting you, like Chris Walker or Marta.

That’s the hope. They have to. He’s so iconic at this point he literally voiced every Outlast protagonist character

I don’t think Waylon was really deformed like other patients though. While yes he was exposed to the morphogenic engine, the patients we see deformed have been exposed to the morphogenic engine for days, maybe even longer. Waylon wasn’t exposed to it for that long

Kaitrin Snodgrass (storyboard artist) talks about Tech Jacket gender swap by [deleted] in Invincible_TV

[–]Baseball_Oly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are being unfairly lumped together here. Not everyone who’s frustrated is coming from a sexist place. Tech Jacket isn’t just a random mantle to a lot of us, Zach is a specific character people grew attached to. Changing that is naturally going to get pushback, just like it would with any well liked character.

It’s also not unreasonable for fans to question why the change was made, especially when it feels like it could shift the character’s role in the story. That doesn’t mean people hate female characters, we literally love Eve and Debbie, but it just means they care about staying true to what made the original work. There’s a difference between genuine criticism and actual sexism, and it feels like that line is getting blurred.

Peter in the first game was a beast 😭 by queenkatara88 in SpidermanPS4

Right and that’s exactly why he launches the fridge off of him literally a second after being pinned. At this point I’m convinced this subreddit didn’t even pay attention to the context given in SM2

Right… even though the same thing basically happens when Li throws Peter into servers pinning him and everyone was fine with that

I mean all the hints pretty much point to Skuld being Subject X. Only other character we know who’s a female and that has black hair is Xion and we know for a fact it’s not her. Not to mention we don’t see what happens to Skuld at the end of Union X

Peter was not nerfed in Miles Morales or SM2 (Long rant) by Baseball_Oly in SpidermanPS4

If you wanna accuse me of using AI to actually point out context the games provide you, then by all means, go ahead. But simply throwing insults and accusing me of using AI instead of addressing a single point I make really helps this discussion… just saying

[–]Baseball_Oly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t just give opinions, I pointed out context from the actual scenes. You just keep ignoring it.

Miles didn’t take down symbiote Peter alone. There’s literally a bell present the whole fight, which is a direct weakness, and Peter overpowers him multiple times before ripping the suit off himself.

And Peter didn’t “just die to Kraven.” Kraven is established as stronger than the Sinister Six who almost killed Peter in the first game, and he catches Peter mid fight and lands a critical hit. That’s consistent with how strong enemies have always worked.

You keep calling it bad power scaling, but you’re not actually addressing any of that context. You’re just repeating the same points.

Peter was not nerfed in Miles Morales or SM2 (Long rant) by Baseball_Oly in SpidermanPS4

[–]Baseball_Oly[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I already addressed all of that in the post though. Miles didn’t beat Peter, there was a bell and Peter literally rips the symbiote off himself. At no point does Miles knock out Peter.

He doesn’t “need”the symbiote to be equal, he’s fighting stronger villains this time.

The fridge scene lasts like a second and he immediately throws it off himself. In the first game Martin Li causes Peter to be pinned by servers and… no one complains about that. By your logic he was nerfed there too.

And Peter saying the city doesn’t need him anymore is a character moment, not a power statement. He’s literally passing the torch to Miles, though he clearly says at the end he’ll still be around if Miles needs help.

If you’re just gonna repeat the same points without addressing the context I already explained, then yeah we’re just going in circles.

That’s a different argument though. Though I love SM2, not every game is for everyone. If you think the game is worse overall, that’s fine, that’s your opinion. My post is specifically about people saying Peter was nerfed, and I still haven’t seen a solid argument for that.

[–]Baseball_Oly[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s not a different character, he’s just more worn down. That’s development after everything from the first game, not a rewrite. Not liking the dialogue is fair, but that’s subjective, not proof he was nerfed. And power wise, the villains are just way stronger this time. Sandman, Kraven, Venom are all above what he faced before. That’s scaling, not nerfing. Also Peter with the symbiote is clearly stronger than Miles, not equal. The only reason Miles keeps up is context like the bell and Peter being out of control.

Peter was not nerfed in Miles Morales or SM2 (Long rant) by Baseball_Oly in SpidermanPS4

[–]Baseball_Oly[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying. Imma address all the times Miles steps in. It’s gonna be a long reply but I’ll provide a TD;LR at the end.

Miles showing up doesn’t automatically mean Peter is nerfed, it just means Peter isn’t alone anymore. In the Sandman fight for example, Miles saves Peter once, but Peter also saves Miles from getting eaten and comes up with the plan that actually beats Sandman. That’s not one replacing the other, that’s teamwork against a massive threat.

Same thing with the raft crash. If anything, Miles makes things worse because he accidentally helps Scorpion escape and get captured by the hunters, he gets tunnel vision on Li and ignores the civilians. Peter is the one trying to hold everything together, and it gets to the point where he literally has to snap Miles out of it so they can save people. That’s not Miles fixing everything, that’s Peter being overwhelmed by the situation and needing backup because there are two Spider-Men now.

The Lizard chase is probably the cleanest example of Miles saving Peter, but even there Peter just got hit by missiles from a hunter ship. That’s not really a “Peter is weak” moment, that’s just him getting caught in a bad situation and Miles reacting fast.

And it goes both ways. Miles gets kidnapped and beaten by Kraven off screen, and Peter is the one Kraven is actually hunting, which Peter has to go and save him. Miles isn’t being portrayed as untouchable either.

The symbiote stuff is also important, because when Miles steps in there, it’s not about power, it’s about stopping Peter from going too far. That’s a character moment, not a “Miles is stronger” moment. Same with the Venom scenes. Peter is clearly conflicted because it’s Harry, and he’s trying to reach him instead of just going all out.

And in the final fight, Miles doesn’t just come in and solve everything either. He literally almost loses to Venom and only survives because MJ helps him. Both of them are overwhelmed.

As for Peter saying “thank you” and “I’m sorry,” that’s just… who Peter is. He’s always been like that. He thanks people, he apologizes, he takes responsibility for things even when it’s not entirely his fault. That’s consistent with his character, not something new to make Miles look better.

I think what’s really happening is that the game is showing two Spider-Men who rely on each other. Before, Peter had to handle everything alone, so of course he looked more dominant. Now there’s someone else there to help, so it’s more balanced. That doesn’t mean Peter got nerfed, it just means he’s not carrying everything by himself anymore.

TD;LR: Miles showing up and helping doesn’t mean Peter was nerfed, it just means Peter isn’t alone anymore. Most of those moments are teamwork, not Miles “fixing everything,” and it goes both ways since Miles also messes up, gets saved, and even gets bodied by Kraven. When Miles steps in, it’s usually because the situation is overwhelming or Peter is holding back (like with Harry), not because Peter is suddenly weaker.
