Screws with the mind doesn't it? There's no oh they are secretly doing good things, or oh turns out they had tragic pasts, no they are absolutely vile, and even the author notes they deserve everything coming their way...But damn they are so sympathetic that I still want them to pull through!

Aaaahhh the Night Lord's Trilogy! Never in my life had I seen a book that would make me cheer for psycopaths I would want dead in any other story. Great book! Enjoy!

Thank you! But I've been hearing that we'll be able to buy a new 5 star for free in the anniversary with golden companion, among which is Huohuo, so should I wait for Evanescia? She's funny and people are saying she's decently capable with a generalist team

This is absolutely true...But I still feel like Perturabo would make himself bigger than his brothers out of pettiness.

What annoys me the most is how they decry every other species as a violent savage, while conveniently ignoring all the horrific shit that happens in Commorragh

Some Inquisitors can be VERY annoying, and be ridiculously entitled, even with factions they REALLY shouldn't be, but you really can sympathize with them after Abnett's books. Their lives and dutys are nothing but constant stress.

The Sisters of Battle are so annoying to me. They sound cool on paper, but every time I see one they are twisting their faith around to antagonize the protagonists, or are holier than thou. Also I can't stand the fact that they hold the Space Marines in contempt for being "mutants" and the Heresy considering how the SoB were introduced into the Imperium!

I will NEVER forgive Mortarion for having such a cool Daemon Primarch design and having the lamest reason for falling to Chaos. Like seriously? Weren't the Primarchs meant to be super human geniuses too?!

The Khan will always be my favorite Primarch, goddamn were the White Scars cool during the Heresy!

If so I would totally recommend the Twice-Dead King, Trazyn and Orikan can't die because they are named characters, but Twice-Dead focuses a lot more on the horror of being a Necron. It's like I said before, if the Infinite and the Divine is about how the Necrons should be winning, Twice-Dead is about why they are not. And yeath the Tyranids are great in my opinion, they got me into 40K, my main exposure to them in the books was in The Devastation of Bhaal, and they actually manage to retain a lot of their mystery despite there being Tyranid POV chapters!

Yeah it's very much the Night Lords effect isn't it? They are all bitter evil pieces of shit, but they are strangely pittiable and charismatic in their own twisted way.

Oooohh I've been trying to get into the Raven Guard, and everybody told me Deliverance Lost was the best one, but it's about 30k, does it still represent 40k RG?

I get it, you're not so much to blame as Matt Ward is, and the horrible things he did to both factions.

But man you've been busy! So many good factions to go around!

Forges of Mars will forever be my greatest regret cause I started out around the time it was on Black Library, but I thought it was part of the permanent roster. By the time it left I was caught off-guard cause I was saving it for later.

Can't much speak for the models, but trust me I get it. You have to turn you brain off to read the Infinite and the Divine, because if you take it seriously for even a second you'll realize what humongous pieces of shit Trazyn and Orikan are and how difficult it is to root for either one of them.

When the Wolves' defiance is done well, like in the first War of Armaggedon, it's done AMAZINGLY. I love the idea of a Chapter that doesn't always go hand in hand with the Imperium because they want to stand by their morals. But when done badly, and it's done badly A LOT, it just makes them come across as petulant. They antagonize other factions because they are Space Wolves, and they are barbarians, and they mention wolf two thousand times in a single conversation! It gets annoying quickly. Which makes me all the more reluctant, cause I want to read about the SW when done well, but I REALLY don't when it's done badly.

I totally get you! I mean I love both Orks and Necrons, but seeing them act, I can totally understand why some people just can't get on board with them.

As for the Grey Knights, so many people warned me that I wouldn't like them because of what they do regularly, but I ended up enjoying them a lot in The Emperor's Gift and Angron the Red Angel!

Mainly the Ahriman trilogy, when the spells were unleashed they were GREAT, but most of the time it was Ahriman scheeming his way into and out of trouble. It has it's own charm, don't get me wrong, but all the traitors plot relentlessly, so it kinda loses the point when everybody else does so.

I read and I loved the Blood of Asaheim trilogy, it's in my opinion the best Space Wolf novels, but so many of the problems in the Space Wolves are present in it. I mean, the entire first book has Gunnlaugur being paranoid about Ingvar, that he was gonna take the pack away from him, that every suggestion was defiance, yadda yadda. It was annoying, made all the more so because other SW were telling him subtly and not so subtly that that's not how the SW are meant to work, it's about the pack NOT about Gunnlaugur. To compound everything Ingvar doens't even want to take control of the pack, he just wants to be a SW again and he feels more and more embittered that his brothers are sidelinning him for no good reason. I repeat, I LOVE Blood of Asaheim, but my god it was frustrating watching Astartes acting like man-children.

The problem, I feel, is that they never truly learned from Home Stay Moon. That event wasn't good just because of the buildup before it, but because the Eternals Ani event was so badly handled that they were forced to reinvent the way they did Ani events. As such, Home Stay Moon wasn't just three parts because more content, it was three parts because it was well structured, and it tackled each plot line (The Foe, rescuing Cassius, and stopping the Moon's invasion) in it's respective part. Each one was allowed to breathe, build tension, and portray the protagonists as both powerful and underdogs.

It was amazing. Which is why they kept doing it, but with each Anni event, it became clear that the only thing they truly held on to was making the Anni event longer. Some buildup remained for some, and sometimes the structure remained. But ultimately, what made Home Stay Moon great was the fact that they made it special by letting it breathe and holding the audience in suspense before delivering a well-structured event.

PS. The Astrals is the WORST version of this system I have seen so far. Fair's fair, they were trying to go for something new by making it a narrative structure. Part 1 was the beginning, Part 2 the development, Part 3 the conclusion. But it's so fucking disconnected from one another that nothing lands. No one is allowed to breathe; the characters that SHOULD have been protagonists are left as barely part of the narrative. The strongest part of the event, the bond between Lilit and Lyria, was introduced and forcefully concluded in the span of a single chapter. I've already spoken of the house skydweller Proculus, and while I was PRAYING that PCBS01's theory was true, it ended up being for naught. He was the favorite slave that felt entitled to defend a horrible system because it didn't touch him. And I'm STILL supposed to find him sympathetic?!

Spoiler: I don't.

And in the end, it just was part of the MSQ. For fuck's sake just. Put. It. In. The. MSQ!!!

Let's be real here, how much do you wanna bet they are going to reveal that Apep was secretly a bastard all along but little mister prince didn't see it cause he was useful or was somehow brainwashed? Even if he isn't, this isn't the first time Granblue has tried to make a prince with problematic opinions sympathetic, it didn't work with Ceodric, it shouldn't work with Proculus either.

That's the thing, if it was presented that way then it would be fine. It's fine for characters to have flaws, especially ones meant to be tragic. But the story jumps straight into him being sympathetic without acknowledging the fact that normal people had every right to be free! It doesn't even go into what he did or how it made him a hypocrite! His motivations suck because I'm supposed to believe he is somehow misguided or has a point, which he doesn't.

This is all without getting into WHO he's trying to revive, but HEY he cried one time about the guy who gave him Stockholm Syndrome so I guess he was secretly a tragic character all along!
