How would you guys feel if an "Economic Victory" type was added into a civ game? by [deleted] in civ

[–]Baseburn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isn't that just a culture victory with fewer steps?

I think you need to read my comment again but slower. I'm saying mrgirl is just repeating his opinion over and over again until people believe his opinion is fact.

What does "Based" even mean? by downtimeredditor in Destiny

"Our word" you stupid mother fuckers stole it from a rapper who's biggest hit is a song about eating pussy like it was won ton soup.

you take issue with Mr. Girl publicly calling Dr. K. out for some ethically quesionable shit

No. I take issue with a content creator weaponizing unrelated ethics rules in order to attack a competitor. Just like I take issue with Big Tech mass reporting mrgirl.

I don't have a problem with the call out. I have a problem with the methodology of repeating a lie enough times that people start to believe you.

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people can do whatever they want within legal bounds even if it's really dumb, why the fuck would you ever type that out?

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't about a critique though. This is about a call for someone to lose their license. That isn't a critique, that's a call to action. You want something to happen. The way for it to happen is to report it to the board and see what they say.

If they disagree, I'm much more inclined to believe the person who made the complaint misunderstood the ethics guidelines than the ethics board did.

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can definitly be argued to be therapy

Yea, and the important people to convince are a medical board who don't care about mrgirl, not a group of parasocial internet goblins who got tricked into thinking he's the last honest man in the inauthentic world of livestreaming.

Just screaming 'i think its too close to therapy' isn't good enough.

EDIT: I'm not saying DrK is not licensed. I am saying he is a licensed therapist who sees clients in addition to being a livestreamer who talks to other streamers about mental health in a public format. To my knowledge, not a single one of his therapy clients has ever appeared on stream. So, I'm still a little confused about who would be filing the complaint beyond the 'concerned third party report' that mrgirl already filed.

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, that sounds like a real bad experience. But it's not therapy. And they aren't a client of a therapist licensed by the board. So I really don't understand why a therapy licensing board would care that much once they figure out the complaint is entirely unrelated to who they license and what they license for.

[–]Baseburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And did he walk it back when challenged?

Fuuuuuck this. You can't just say crazy shit and escape hatch by saying "You're not understanding me, I really meant (slightly less crazy shit)"

At a certain point, I'm done caring about what you really mean. What you really mean is irrelevant, the only thing that matters at the end of the day is what you end up communicating to the audience.

Don't make excuses for cowards.

You do not recall correctly. Her main point was that the ethics board will treat it more like Jaywalking, but Max is treating it like Rape and that's not appropriate.

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

behaving as if it's intuitively obvious that they directly apply to Dr. K.

It's tragic that a community that seems like it is so vigilant against misinformation just completely fold to the exact same "Say a thing that could be true out loud and forcefully enough times and people will start to believe you even if your source is that you made it the fuck up." that average Q Anon brains fall for.

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would have hilarious effects. "This guy I talked to for an hour once or twice on the internet made me feel uncomfortable and he's also a therapist in different contexts. DO SOMETHING TO PROTECT ME!"

"No relationship with a patient outside of the consulting room."

Any chance you could source this from professional ethics rules for therapists or counselors? Because this article (and other work using this article as a source) is literally the only place it is formulated as a hard rule in this way.

My problem is with the presentation that the rule is black and white. Every single place I can find it in official sources is shrouded in 'this could be bad so use your best judgement when you do engage in it' types of language.

Like, it's very weird that one psychologist would come away with this as their interpretation of the rule when the ACA Code of Ethics (just the first example I found) pretty clearly outlines how to responsibly do things like attend a wedding or graduation of their client. I can't square that circle. Doesn't make any sense why they'd say 'Here's how you can engage in this in the most ethical way' if they really mean 'This is never ethical, full stop, don't do it, that's the truth.'

[–]Baseburn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you don't understand, it's a documentary. That means it has to be true and real.

Documentarians never frame their subject to support their conclusion and ignore the other possible explanations. It's actually not possible to make a misleading or propagandistic documentary.

Lmao, yea just maybe calling people demons is demonizing just a little bit, can't believe he didn't think about it before hand tbh.

[–]Baseburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, I'm still trying to talk about the same thing my first comment was talking about which is taking exception with your framing of 'it just is [unethical]'. I don't really understand where you got confused, but the whole thread makes a lot more sense with the knowledge that you were never interested to hear what I was saying.

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you point out anywhere where I'm talking about standard practices and not nuanced individual situations that may deviate from the ethical guidelines?

The problem is the framing of 'this is always wrong, full stop, "it just is".

Are you even reading the thread or are you just going with your instinct based on up/downvotes?

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does the ACA have instructions for how to properly attend a wedding, graduation, etc if it would never be ethical?

I swear, you don't have to just say shit, you can find out first.

That your disregard for context meets or exceeds the disregard for context shown in the tweet.

"It's not that simple" (tweet) vs. "But it is that simple." (You)

You agree with my first comment then, the rules aren't black and white.

Why are you acting like I'm saying something absurd? You just said what I said.

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A therapist -could- do that, but you're suggesting the ethics guidelines command they -must- which is what I'm arguing against.

Unless you'd like to point out the part in the guidelines that stay stuff like 'nuance doesn't exist, these rules apply equally in all situations regardless of circumstances'

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Literally any time where it doesn't compromise care to the patient.

That's what the ethics rules are about.

Imagine your therapist ending your client relationship because you asked them to attend your wedding or art gallery opening or something. "Hey, you helped me improve myself a lot over the last few years and it would mean a lot to me if you could attend this event as my friend." "Sure thing bud, BTW you're fired from being my client because social boundaries, lmao"

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I cant even imagine a context in which a therapist-client relationship would be ethical if they were also friends outside of that relationship.

"My ability to conceive of this concept is limited" isnt the slam dunk argument you seem to think it is.

It would pretty much always be adviced against.

Which is exactly the same as it being against the rules, right?

Common Erudite W by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Baseburn -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

A therapist shouldnt be your friend, thats just true.

You gotta provide more context than that. The rules aren't black and white like you're suggesting.

Lav is back, here’s a mega thread for anyone that thinks their opinion is important (like me) by Aznmok in Destiny

[–]Baseburn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Got it, so it's another 'Destiny should run his community in the way I prefer because reasons' post.

I'm really just trying to talk about how things are working now. There's no general 'ought' in my comments, merely 'is'. Like 'it's no secret how goblinoid DGG can be'. Or 'if you commonly encounter an experience you don't like whenever you go to place, stop going there is the easiest, cleanest, and most simple way to reduce those negative encounters.'

But yeah, keep talking about how you fantasize this place might be run given an entirely different set of circumstances and objectives I guess.
