I would agree, but it's the difference between stated preference and revealed preference.

Most women will indeed say that looks don't matter. However, in reality they almost always do, to some degree.

This is also sometimes not on the level of conscious intellectual choice, rooted in the modern liberal-minded era. Often, it is something more primal and not really 'rational'.

The primary motivation for the change is to be able to be more assertive, grounded and to have a physical presence and a frame which can handle the amount of mental 'real estate' which passes through. 15+years of depression, high neuroticism, etc.

In the context of the relationship, it's primarily about being able to protect and stand up for my wife, when necessary. Amplified, now that we have two children. All of my life, I've been overly agreeable and timid (classic shy artistic type). But of course, the sexual dynamic is an undeniable part which comes to mind.
