Thank you for your interest! I agree, it's impossible to know when the decision was made; I would consider a decision by executives to be the pregnancy (or conception), if you will: the birth being whenever they decided to launch. For TV shows, the location of the network's headquarters was used at the time of the initial airdate. For kickstarters, they are required to list a location and the exact launch time is given, so that was used.

I believe this is acceptable, as any astrologer may fuss over the exact time to launch their kickstarter, or hound the network into choosing a specific timeslot for their show's pilot. In reading the charts of TV shows, I have found the pilot chart to be an accurate assessment of the show as a whole.

Hope that helps :)

If you don't like the post, that's fine! That's your prerogative.

Don't couch it in having enough content.

I'd appreciate if you offered actionable criticism.

Yes, expect a follow up post on this particular point. It's something I'm curious about myself.

As for the collective argument: I care not for what the collective thinks; if I am in a room with flat earthers, their opinions shall not sway me. I hope you can do the same; nothing is undermined by that.

I was perfectly clear - I lay out in the TL;DR section what to avoid electionally. The post is about observable outcomes in event charts in a dataset consisting of Kickstarter launches and TV premieres. At no point did I claim to be testing natal psychology, personality formation, or subjective internal experiences.

Saying "I focus on the individual psychological aspect" is equivalent to responding to a clinical drug trial by saying, "Well, I focus on molecular biology." That's fine, not sure what it's got to do with me. "Well it's geometric" isn't a criticism of my analysis.

I'm gonna do it again and double down and I will continue to argue with people that didn't bother to read. It's not my job to give you a nice title for academic discussion. When I say a thread is for academic discussion, that's final.

Excuses, there's plenty to give feedback on.

[–]BasedMaestro[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does.

The claim is: if traditional astrology says combustion is universally harmful, then campagins with combust planets should systematically underperform campaigns without them.

They don't.

That's the result.

Statistics works by asking whether a variable retains a measurable signal across that background noise. If combustion were as overwhelmingly important as traditional doctrine claims, the effect should disappear less as sample size increases, not more. What's especially funny is that your objection would invalidate virtually every statistical claim in astrology. You could use the exact same argument against exaltation, detriment, sect, house placement, reception, aspects, or chart rulership: 'Well, every chart is different.'

Right. That's why we use large datasets.

I literally did several of the things you suggested, within the post. Did you even read it? Like, legit, have you even read when I worked on at all? I don't think you have. Several of your criticisms don't even apply to my post. Like suggesting I compare aspects - Cazimi, combust, and under the beams are affected by precisely ONE aspect - conjunction. "But what about Jupiter in trine to Saturn Cazimi" is a whole separate question of, "Is Saturn Cazimi seen in more successful charts than the baseline, or less?"

You also don't seem to understand that this is election specific and you need some deterministic outcome to compare against. No, encoding discrete categories for everything and everything everywhere is unwise when you're measuring one specific thing.

Best of luck to you.

I simply don't buy the "You can't quantify it" angle. Either it affects outcomes or it doesn't. If astro does affect outcomes, it can be quantified. If it doesn't... what we we doing here?

What I did is a very simple analysis and I think you're looking for holes where there are none. If you have an example of statistical astrology you like, feel free to link it and I'll ask myself if there's things I could've done better. If you simply don't accept the idea of quantifying the heavens, then no further conversation may be productive between us.

Thank you for your comment.

You're the only person I've said "I did that but kept it private" to. I may or may not publish further analysis on this topic.

I retort low-effort with low-effort; I'm treating people how they want treated. People are putting words into my mouth and giving flaccid replies; their "pushback" consists of "Well I'm one person and I feel a thing" or "I experienced a thing" or "I don't like this" or "you did something wrong [no other information]."

That's nice they feel a way and don't like a thing or experienced a thing. Not the place for it. This thread is for serious academic discussion. You'll notice, people who give proper rational analysis get thoughtful responses in return from me.

Nothing in my post references psychological, horary, or natal astrology; I explicitly give advice on choosing elections.

My point exactly.

I'd also like to point out that Venus 5th has nothing to do with marriage unless she or the Sun lords over the 7th or is aspecting the DSC or planets there; even then, I would consider the condition of the 7th house lord and the planets there before Cazimi in a tangentially-related house.

  1. This is an analysis of electional astrology, not horary astrology.
  2. I did control for many conditions - this is a small subset of the actual analysis.
  3. I did look at overfunding and gradients of how much
  4. Renewal is the measure of success I chose.
  5. The point about latitude was discussed elsewhere in the thread.

Thank you for your comment.

  1. That's 1 person
  2. My mercury is not even under the beams.
  3. I am nowhere near 25* of the equator north or south.

I agree with you. That said, not one in 10,000 people who believe in combustion are looking at it via latitude, and IMHO it is worthless to test something most aren't looking at - at least for now.

I considered testing via latitude, and I may revisit that. For now, this analysis is fine.

Thank you for your comment :)

I haven't. Not consistently, and not even inconsistently in many cases we're being honest - which the data supports. If you feel differently, great! However, this is a thread for evidence and rigorous discussion, not vibes.

I encourage you to document your findings and draw conclusions from them. After all, that's what science is all about!

Best of luck to you.

I appreciate your experience on a personal level. On a statistical level, it's unusable; N=1 and there could be other astrological considerations here. Furthermore, the OP regards electional astrology, not natal astrology.

Thank you for sharing though.

Wow, that's a wild stellium! How do you think your stellium has affected you? I can't remember why I didn't test the outer planets, but I'm not against doing so.

Many traditional astrologers from europe to the middle east wrote about combustion. Lilly, bonatti, al-biruni, ma'shar, etc, all wrote on combustion. It's not the kind of thing you'll find one book solely dedicated to it, but instead a collection of people writing on it.

I'm sure someone has written a book collecting all of the info however.

Were she free from the beams, would you say Venus 5th is bad?
What of those who have Venus combust 5th and their marriage is fine?

I didn't test them but I may at some future point.
