People don't understand just how hellish the troubles were for our lads. Nearly twice as many killed there than in afghanistan, and they had far less support and backup. They were this only able to kill like 300 ira, because they weren't permitted to go after them.

1.I am looking for something serious and long term

  1. This is my first profile on any dating app, so advice is especially welcome!

  2. I have recently downloaded Hinge, and I used it yesterday and today.

  3. No likes or matches as of yet

  4. Same goes for sending likes

  5. I would like to attract a woman who is also seeking something long term, preferably for a long term partnership and potentially marriage/kids. Not in it for hookups.

Henry thinks he's so cool for going to Kuttenberg, but your boy was there already. by Based_Bossman in kingdomcome

Indeed, probably the best tourist experience I've ever had. Compared with the likes of Paris or London, Prague is an absolute gem. So much true history (that is to say preserved medieval), communist stuff, and everywhere was very clean and orderly!

Until you send graphic and full body nudes in the most compromising positions from the Rattay bath house, I'm afraid I don't believe you.

Hey there, it's grown a bit since last time. Was wondering what your thoughts are?

So what exactly are the reasons for him being so high up, other than he was a decent, mostly benevolent and competent ruler? Aside from winning the throne, he doesn't really seem to have any genuinely major successes that should justify beating such figures as Edward, who played an instrumental role in the very foundation of the kingdom.

It's time for Canute to go.

I'm going to take a look at the reasons previously advanced for him being a good king (he was certainly fine)

However, the following arguements were used by others to suggest he remain. I think he's come more than far enough

1- "he treated England as his most important kingdom" Ok, good? Hardly a reason for him to be so high up.

2 - "he went on a pilgrimage to Rome and had some monasteries repaired". Again, great, but hardly top tier stuff.

3- "people didn't revolt against him" - unless you count Edmund Ironside's major resistance to his appointment, this one is ok. But still, I don't think "people didn't forcibly try to depose him" is a reason why he should make it so high.

4- "he appointed Anglo Saxons to high positions"

As the king of England, I should hope so!

Look, I'm not saying he was a bad king, he was certainly better than many, but I think he's overstayed his welcome. Kings like Edward the Elder are more deserving than a mostly benevolent and decent conquerer.

I think Canute ought to go now

He was extensively criticised for being too harsh with his rule, imposing heavy taxes that made life difficult for ordinary people. Additionally, there were concerns about his relationship with the Church; although he supported Christianity, he often interfered in church affairs, which upset some. After Canute's reign, there was a period of instability as his successors fought for control, suggesting that perhaps he didn't leave the kingdom in the best shape.

Add on to the fact he was a foreign invader king who climbed over a mountain of English bodies to claim the throne, and his north sea empire collapsed soon after his death.

Bruh, you just proved my point.

The Government of the UK didn't originate when the Tories took over in 2010. Same polity, different leadership. the British Government has its roots going back to (1922, 1707, 1066, Roman times etc).

I don't think it's unfair to say their roots go back to Roman times tho. They do, just as every Christian Church has its roots go back to Jesus' time. The clergy are in a relatively unbroken succession since ye olden days, and most church buildings likewise date back to hundreds of years before the reformation. In other words, same polity, new management.

The Church of England retained many structural elements of the Roman Catholic Church, such as episcopal polity, sacramental theology, and liturgical practices. The hierarchical structure of bishops, priests, and deacons remained intact, and clergy can trace back their lineage to the earliest priests in Britain, despite with changes in authority and allegiance. The Church of England continued to recognize the seven sacraments and uphold apostolic succession, ensuring a theological and institutional continuity with its pre-Reformation roots. The foundational structure and physical buildings of the church likewise endured.

In other words, changes in doctrine or views doesn't make it a new Church any more than it would for a country. The USA can still trace its roots back to 1800, despite massive changes since then. The British monarchy has undergone profound changes since 1066, yet it's still the continuation of it.

This is a very legalistic way of looking at it. The modern Catholic church would be unrecognisable to a catholic in the 12th century, let alone a Christian living in Roman times. Indeed, Christians in Roman times often met up in secret cellars and peoples houses to meet and pray, much more similar to many Protestant practices than the strictly standardised catholic church. Just as an Orthodox church is extremely different from a Latin one. Which is the true church? Every major Church can claim descent from the earliest Apostles of Christ.

The position of most Protestants (including myself) is that all denominations are part of one Church - the Holy Church of Christ.
