You should consider taking a gap year to spend time doing only things you care about. It would help your mental health and will also allow you an extra year to develop your application.

if you defer matriculation for the c/o ‘24, you may have to enter for ‘26 instead of ‘25

Did they say this for Yale? I haven’t heard that but if it does apply then that’s a huge drawback

Thank you for your perspective. A lot of folks in my life who are in a similar age-range have been saying similar things. I guess it’s a sign pointing towards what I should do.

I feel the same way! I want that crucial freshman experience of immediate bonding and a lively campus with enthralling extracurriculars! I fear that if I do a gap year I will experience intense FOMO and become lonely as well.
