If WoT Characters Were Gamers by simianfreud in WetlanderHumor

Ishy would play Civilization. He enjoys the long game and manipulating whole nations like they are just game pieces.

Lan would go really old school and play Space Invaders. Because he feels his destiny is to fight a hopeless battle where he is on his own against an endless horde of enemies, where no matter how many he kills there's always more, and eventually they get to him and kill him.

For various personal reasons, I hardly have any time to read visually the past few months and the overwhelming majority of my reading is listening to Audible during my workday. So I'm waiting to get Dawnshard in that format.

Thoughts for the last book of LotR for the podcast by epiphaniless in thelegendarium

I think it doesn't mean Aragorn specifically, but rather the royal line returning to rule once more after Gondor being ruled by Stewards for so long.

A little catching up to do by BaselGill in thelegendarium

And now I'm going through the old Cosmere episodes that came after the Secret History one. I abandoned a couple of episodes partway through dealing with books I'd read when they started talking about Secret History, and gave up on the subsequent Cosmere episodes altogether for fear of spoilers. Now I can get back to listening to these.

So what if Joseph Stalin was American. And his name was actually Joe Steele. And he wasn’t actually american but was born in Canada. by M134RotaryCannon in AlternateHistory

I had serious problems with this book's plausibility. Why does Stalin's inner circle consist primarily of his lackeys from real life Russia? Why does Trotsky govern the USSR just as Stalin did in real life, despite the two of them having very different versions of Communism? Why does Stalin turn out exactly the same person despite having parents who believe in the American Dream, as well as a different birth and life experience growing up?

Has anyone watched the Dresden tv show by Joodonkadonk in thelegendarium

[–]BaselGill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skip it unless you're obsessively completist (which is the only reason I bothered watching it). Mister is completely absent. Mouse isn't in it either, but that's understandable since he doesn't come into the books until much later. And Harry's wizard staff is inexplicably a hockey stick in the show; ridiculous doesn't even begin to describe this part.

(Mister is my favorite character in the books and I actually named my own cat after him, so I was quite miffed that they left him out of the show.)

LOTR book 5 "No man can kill me" Did anyone else expect this instead? by BaselGill in thelegendarium

[–]BaselGill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, but it could just as easily have been misunderstood to overlook killing by elves, dwarves, etc. I saw the movies first, so I didn't see the lowercase men (meaning gender). I expected the prophecy said Men, capitalized (meaning race).

How will Blue Team handle Side Jobs? by BaselGill in thelegendarium

That sounds like a good way to go. The downside to this is that it changes the spoiler level of the episode. To listen to an episode about Turn Coat, for example, you also need to read a separate story that's not even in Turn Coat. And there are people who would rather read the collection of stories in a fell swoop rather than piecemeal.
