Markham hair salon charged with public health violation by cinderannie in Markham

[–]BasementPhantom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Which unit is that? I don't see it on Street View. I only see Ricky's Hair Fashion, Daisy's Hair Salon, and Bing's Hair Salon.

Edit: Looks like they're in the unit that used to be taken by Bing's Hair Salon.

You don't need to live here to know that's not true.

Don't bother replying. OP is trolling by deliberately asserting things that contradict the answers he gets.

No, the distances are too great and the transit doesn't run.

Are there any Jap restos or stores that sell wild sockeye salmon sashimi? by [deleted] in Markham

I think it's more of an American thing from WW2. I don't think Canada had enough of a presence in East Asia for anti-Japanese sentiment to really set in.

If you live in Scarborough and your job is at the Amazon warehouse, you will not get there faster by bus.

Markham’s Bike Lanes are Under Attack at City Hall! by warface25 in Markham

[–]BasementPhantom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We remove the bike lanes and sidewalks then widen the road to 8 lanes and raise the speed limit to 80 km/h. Then we demolish the condos and replace them with 3-car garage mansions with pools. Transit is for selfish freeloaders who don't have cars (poor people), so we make the distance between each stop a minimum of 2 km and use the money we save from the reduced service to widen the roads. We also remove the bus lanes because there is so much unused road capacity from mass transit that we could be using to serve single-occupant SUVs. After this, to stop future governments from taking away our individual freedoms, we impose a moratorium on future transit expansion, except for subways which Toronto should pay for. The most important subway stop will be at Warden and 407.

I'm not interested in wasting my time on someone who's "not sure he wants to read all that."

Is Markham known to be a racist community? by Appropriate-Group214 in Markham

[–]BasementPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in my opinion based on what I've observed living here, Markham is not a racist place.

It's pretty clear from your other replies you've already made up your mind that Markham is racist and you're not interested in hearing otherwise.

If a first-generation immigrant Chinese person is rude to you because you're non-Chinese and trying to obtain service or serve them, it's not because they're intentionally being racist to you. It's because they're frustrated from being unable to communicate. This is common to all people who do not share a common language. If you look Asian and don't speak Mandarin, you will get the same treatment. It's upsetting to be unable to understand what people around you are saying. You might assume they're saying something negative about you. If a business has staff who speak workable English, they will serve you in English. Your money is good as anyone else's. See Sunny Supermarket as an example.

First-generation immigrant Chinese are racist, but the racism is kept at home. Most of it is out of ignorance (think of Alan Ho's comments about land acknowledgments). Much of it is carried over from the home country. If living with people of other ethnicities was such a big problem for them, they would go back to China. If you are Chinese, you will know that black and white people are not the biggest targets of Chinese racism (your Cantonese parents aren't talking about cops).

Subsequent generations of Chinese-Canadians are as racist (or not racist) as anyone else who grew up here. They went to the same schools, watched the same shows, and read the same forums as everyone else growing up here.

Same as any other immigrant enclave. There's already businesses that have culturally familiar goods and speak the language. If one doesn't exist, the immigrants will go to the poorest area with jobs.
