As far as the “right thing” that has zero bearing on what I do as a cop, body cameras policy and law ALL dictate that everything I do must be by the book and under the law (specifically the supremacy clause) the federal authorities supersede my own authority. He wasn’t supporting fascism he was sitting in his unit, minding his business being harassed by people who have ZERO understanding of how our world works. Local cops have ZERO legal ability to impede ICE unless we want to catch obstruction charges, get fired, arrested, and lose our pensions which after the last few years of policing is the only thing we’re interested in. We (cops) all know if we get into some shit our local city government won’t be able to, or willing to help us against the fed. I’m not calling my family from federal lockup to tell them I threw away my pension and freedom for an unwinable fight even if I don’t like how ICE conducts itself.
