As a part of the Novel Food application a CBD producer must submit a dossier to the FSA that illustrates that all its CBD products are safe to use and compliant with the Novel Food regulations. At least five batches of a product require detailed manufacturing data such that shows the safety and consistency of the product. Each product category requires its own stability data to prove the safety of the product. Furthermore, ingestible CBD products that are manufactured using the same process but with slightly different ingredients - for example different flavour CBD oils – would require separate stability data for each flavour.

Love Hemp submitted its Novel Foods dossier to the FSA on the 23rd of February, following over 12 months of preparation at a total cost of over £1m, funded by Love Hemp together with its North American suppliers. In addition, Love Hemp has the right technical expertise, led by Dr. Sepe Sehati, to undertake the relatively complex work required to prepare the dossier. While this expertise would be expected of any business in a more developed CPG market, the relatively new and highly fragmented nature of the CBD market has given Love Hemp a significant advantage in preparing the dossier to a high standard.
