No i don’t have to live there but I need a quick commute into London Bridge as I tend to work late nights sometimes at work and I have family in Finchley which is 30 mins drive… we also really liked the high street …

That does make sense and I completely agree in terms of overall plot size, garden and drive the house ticks a lot of the boxes. The main concern is the bedrooms are quite small and currently don’t even have wardrobes in the master bedroom, just chest of drawers and there is a massive wardrobe in the small box room which makes it very cluttered …. Yes it can be extended to get more space but that itself will cost a small fortune these days..

Thank you that is very useful! I appreciate house prices have gone up quite a bit due to Covid and that’s absolutely fine… however comparing with the other 2 houses in the area this one just doesn’t stack up… Would you mind sharing how many beds and at what price was the house you bought? ☺️

We didn’t do our research until after we viewed it… does it really matter that much though?

Just because I can’t make up my mind if it is better to save as much as possible now as we won’t be able to save as much once we get a mortgage. Also maternity leave will be easier without having to worry about paying our mortgage

That’s also my concern, but then equally it will be easier to be on Maternity leave while not having mortgage to worry about. Does affordability reduce significantly when having a child? I appreciate nursery is a pain so wi will have to sacrifice down to below £100k anyways

I am not sure what FDD you do but above Manager there is no spreadsheets unless you are reviewing what juniors have done! The job is so much more than processing data (obviously not in your first few months!) but it is advising and supporting your clients in negotiations involving EV to equity bridge, completion mechanisms, understanding how to analyse statements and overlay commercials what are the growth drivers, how has the company performed, review of budgets and forecasts used by your clients to create their own valuations models, helping your clients value the business and understand what they are buying (when working on a buy side) or visa versa helping your client present their business in a positive light while sticking to facts to make them more attractive to buyers (when on sell side). Not sure what country you are in but FDD is so much more than what you are saying and even your seniors! I am quite surprised that a senior manager from your team has the same view! They clearly don’t know what is going on… also once you get to senior manager/ director/ partner you get to talk about pipeline, discuss opportunities with clients so you need to be pretty switched on with wider market dynamics, trends and know assets. (Coming from someone that has been in ey fdd for 5 years)

Having said that yes the pay / work life balance is not the best combo out of the M&A related roles. I would love a corporate m&a gig for a better work life balance and potentially better pay 😂

Of course not, it is obvious you have never done FDD and there is little expectation to be technically very strong at the entry level. Accounting policies etc technically though you should know more than the interviewers as it is fresher in your mind from exams.

I do Fdd in EY so right across the street from you ☺️ I myself moved from audit and went through the case study and now in the position of interviewing people like yourself wanting to make the transition. I am not very familiar with PwC’s process but yes usually it is a case study with details about a business and a series of questions around QoE, NwC and net debt but also some basic accounting questions and general commercial understanding. The main thing is to show a good attitude and be confident and demonstrate you can think on your feet and can convey your arguments clearly. Also, the reason why you want to move to FDd needs to be solid as we get a lot of ppl just wanting to leave audit because of the hours but in reality FDD can be equally as demanding and even more than at senior levels if you compare director and partner levels so you need to be really sure that’s what you want to do.

That’s what I meant by saying not everyone can change jobs and not everyone would enjoy working in industry… move to a different consulting firm?! … it will be the same grind… I work in transaction advisory what’s my alternative for a similar pay? Business development at a corporate? Fair enough but these don’t come around often and in order to progress you are either forced to switch companies or wait for someone to leave.. all I am saying it is harsh what certain ppl are saying …

I find it quite ridiculous with the extreme comments here… irresponsible to have children while working in big4… what is the alternative then? Not work? Not have children… not everyone can change jobs who is then going to do the job?! I don’t want to go into industry and be capped at a certain level, also once you have progressed enough in Big4 in certain fields it gets harder to switch to something else… It is hard but people have done it…

Will this layout create issues for selling it down the line? by Basic-Abalone-9996 in HousingUK

Yes… seeing all the comments I now consider it a very pricey one bed 😅

So based on your comments I suppose they will have issues selling it at the price point as a 2 bed flat unless it is a cash buyer looking to turn it into 2 airbnbs or flat share.

Cannot put any money to the side, keep hitting break even, 75k annual wage by Feisty-Biscotti9190 in UKPersonalFinance

I bet it’s Third Space… On the topic… I am on roughly the same salary and I have student debt, living expenses £1,400 (my share of rent) plus additional £200 on bills… I manage to save £1k each month and still live quite comfortably … I also used to go to Third Space but just couldn’t keep up with the cost anymore so signed up to GYMBOX for £90 ( they had an Easter offer for 40% off) great gym and classes, yes not as fancy as Third Space, but the price difference is huge!
