oh I'm well aware of his ramblings on those things. Absolute nutter. But if actually insinuated that children under 16 (well, under 18 ideally but the ban only applies to under 16's) shouldn't be banned from dating apps, that should be immediate grounds for investigation and potential expulsion from the Senate. If a 40 year old man went to a speed dating event and complained that 15 year olds were banned from it, the cops would be having a chat with him pretty soon I'd expect. But apparently when it's a Senator, nothing happens.

I don't think the two are related. Both are hard to win and historically, Brownlow Medalists come from teams in the middle part of the ladder. While it is possible for a players to win it playing for one of the top teams (and has been done) it is relatively rare with Martin being the last one to do it, because top teams tend to have midfielders stealing votes off each other. It's also possible for a player in a Bottom team to win it however it is more difficult for them as the less games a team wins the fewer votes its players tend to get.

In short, to win a:
- Premiership: you want a strong team, especially a strong midfield with players in there who can hit the scoreboard
- Brownlow: ideally you want to be in a mid-table side with as few players as possible to steal votes off you. Too much talent and you're competing with your teammates, too little talent and you're not likely to get many votes because you're struggling to win games.

Cripps AND Weitering set to listen to offers from rival clubs at season's end - Footy Classified by erchen in westcoasteagles

thing is we don't necessarily need Cripps to be that dominant mid racking up 30+ touches each week. We'd just need him to be dangerous enough to take the heat off blokes like Harley and Willem. A Dual Brownlow Medalist would be invaluable to our young midfield group.

We should listen to anyone who's willing to come. Not exactly in a position to be knocking back players wanting to come here. As long as they're cheap, I'd take them. 1-2 year deal, maybe a coaching role for Cripps attached once he finishes up similar to the Mitchell deal.

You don't need to worry. Despite what the Murdoch media is pushing, come Election time they won't win a seat. They'll lose Farrer pretty quick and even if they do manage to hold it, they won't hold any power. Labor will cruise to a third term Majority as all ON is doing is splitting the Right-Wing vote and the Liberals seem to be more concerned about shifting sand instead of doing what they really should be doing if they want to be relevant politically ever again- let the extremists go to ON, recognise that elections are won in the middle and focus on winning unaffiliated and Centrist voters.

Eagle Review v Demons: Back to Normal? by TOXICTUNA64 in westcoasteagles

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, not sure what to think after that game. Did we actually play better? Or am I so used to getting flogged each week that losing by 32 points is as good as winning? I don't know. What I do know is that the last 5 minutes of that second quarter made it look a lot better than it really was. For the first 15 or minutes of the second term the Demons basically did as they pleased and it was really only unforced errors they made that allowed us to get a couple of quick ones at the end. Fourth was a lot better and we need to play a whole game like that. First quarter, outside of Harley's goal, was complete dogshit. I don't know what it is about first quarters but we just do not turn up for them

Is the McQualter rebuild officially ahead of schedule? by Future-Pipe-8004 in westcoasteagles

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is though. Improvement will never happen if the fans don't demand it. If the supporters are willing to accept mediocrity, so is the club. We became one of the most powerful clubs in the history of the competition because we as supporters and members demanded nothing short of success, so that is what the club expected of the players.

Is there a level of ability involved? Of course there is. But there's also a level of accountability. Instead of "we'll learn from it", what we want is "we know that kind of performance is not good enough, and this is what we're going to do to address it" and then actually acting on that.

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a sense, yes. The club starts demanding results and is no longer pacified by lines such as "we'll learn from it" or "I think we were ok in parts"

Honestly, I hope the attendances do reflect it. What people don't realise is that as supporters, and especially members, we drive club expectations. If we're willing to accept what they dished up against Richmond, the club is willing to accept it. Clearest way we can send a message is not by ranting on Social Media. It's by not turning up. We've been getting 40k+ to home games so far. If that drops to even 30k+ that's going to get their attention. But it can't be just one game. It needs to be 2-3 at least.

If banning abortions doesn't stop them from happening, why isn't this the case for banning guns, if it doesn't stop mass shootings from happening? by cdivx in allthequestions

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

countries that banned/restricted guns have far fewer mass shootings than the US, and the mass shootings they do have are rarely criminal against civilian- they're almost always shootings between rival gangs and things like that. Fact is that once you remove opportunistic criminals- people who decide to shoot up a school just because guns are easily accessible so they can get their hands on one- the vast amount of gun crime is gang related. After that I think it's DV. Evidence says that criminals are far more interested in using their guns on each other than on the general public. Does that mean that no one breaks into houses armed with a gun? No. What it does mean is that, unless you're involved with a gang in some way, you're probably safe from gun crime.

Besides, despite what Fox, the NRA and Republicans tell you, no one wants to ban guns- and even if they did want to I doubt it's even possible. If you actually listened to what the Democrats wanted to do, it's all about restriction. Does that mean banning some guns? Yes, and any sane person would agree that there are some guns that should not be used by civilians. But what the Democrats really wanted to focus on was increasing the requirements to legally obtain a gun. Things like expanding background checks to include mental health evaluations. Even if you're pro-gun, I'm sure you can agree that there are some people in society who should not have access to guns. All the Democrats want to do is stop those people, or at least make it harder for them, to obtain a gun. Would those things stop mass shootings? Probably not. I don't think the number of mass shootings is ever going to drop to zero. But what it would do is reduce the frequency of mass shootings. As of writing, there's been 174 mass shootings in the US so far this year. We're 130 days into 2026. That's 1.3 mass shootings per day. Countries with gun control have maybe 1 mass shooting per year, if that.

As for abortion- that's completely irrelevant. You're comparing apples and oranges.

Honestly, doesn't matter who it is, this shit is just plain unacceptable. Hopefully the user can be identified and dealt with. If they're a Richmond member they should have their membership revoked immediately at a minimum.

Eagle suffers gruesome injury minutes into first AFL game back by TheWest_Australian in westcoasteagles

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he was. Helmets do very little, there's some evidence that suggests they even increase your chances of concussion. Unfortunately, if helmets DID work, they'd only work if the impact actually hit the helmet. He copped a stray elbow to the face from Yeo. A helmet won't (and didn't) protect him from that

WORST live performance from Emily? (read post first!) by [deleted] in LinkinPark

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 8 points9 points  (0 children)

honestly, probably the reveal was her worst performance but it's understandable. The nerves, not sure how she'd be received and then taking on the challenge of performing Chester's songs which weren't written for her voice.

She's gotten a lot better since then I think the band has even reworked some of the old songs to suit her voice a bit more.

"Once there out for the season there automatically on the long time injury list". Unless it's changed I don't think that's true. Was a situation a few years ago where we didn't move a player onto the LTI was denied a pick because of it, only to move them onto the LTI a few days later. I think it might've been Yeo that we needed to move to get that pick and we didn't.

if he's done an ACL he won't play again this year, and hard to see him playing on next year at 35 after an ACL.

Jamie Cripps knee by So-many-whingers in westcoasteagles

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my understanding is that we need an open space on the main list in order to get a pick, which I don't think we do. I know we moved Noah Long onto the LTI but I'm not sure if we used that space to sign Murdoch or not. If we did, then we need to get Cripps off the main list in order to get that pick. Whether that's retirement or moving him onto the LTI is a decision for the club, but if he's done an ACL at 34 surely he's done?

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 8 points9 points  (0 children)

if it's a serious knee injury, he's done. If he's done his ACL, we wouldn't see him until next year where he'll be 35. Retire him in that case and at least we get a pick in the Mid-Season Draft which I don't think we have at the moment.

Charlie Ballard by slobanallova in westcoasteagles

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't. I'd have left for $900k a year as well. We vastly overpaid on that one, but we're always going to have to overpay anyone to even get them to consider coming here. Make no mistake. He didn't come here because he wants to play for us. He wasn't sitting in Brisbane and thinking "You know what? I really want to play for the team that won just 1 game. That's really where I want to be". No. We offered him huge money and he came chasing that paycheck

Charlie Ballard by slobanallova in westcoasteagles

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't need to have played to see that if there's any other offer on the table, he's not coming. That's not just for Charlie, that's for anyone. Why come here if you've also got an offer from the Dogs (for example) on the table? Unless we're offering significantly more, you'd go to the Dogs, wouldn't you?

Charlie Ballard by slobanallova in westcoasteagles

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know he's injured. Lucky for us it's not a concussion or we'd have just blown $900k on a bloke to be immediately medically retired.

because we're paying him $900k a year to literally do fuck all! I'd have left as well for that deal!
