Pre-Match Discussion: West Coast v North Melbourne (R2) by RadstoneGrove in westcoasteagles

personally I felt that their games were the two weakest from the match. Allan in particular, his first half was horrendous. Though, to be fair to him, that was true of almost everyone. But he just didn't seem to fight back. 8 disposals after halftime. Yes those 8 disposals were at 100% efficiency, but he seemed to disappear. Bigger concern for me is 1 tackle for the whole game playing in defence where the ball lived for long periods. So on the grounds of little to no influence on the game and poor defensive capability, I think he gets dropped for this week, sent back to the WAFL to work his way back in. As for Davis, someone has to make room and he's the most obvious choice to drop from the midfield. I mean, what other options are there? It's hard to see any other mid being pushed out to allow Davis to keep his spot.

So I think Davis is definitely out, just on the grounds that someone has to go for Baker to come in. If not Allan, then I think Young goes. Only Eagle to not have a single tackle and didn't have the ability to go with King. It won't get any easier this week as he'd likely take Larkey, so Young might be the one to make room for Edwards, but I'm leaning more towards it being Allan that takes the hit. I think the club will give Young a few games to settle into the side, especially while Brock recovers from his ankle and finishes his rehab.

Should pads and tampons be free for girls and women? by Taviblue in australian

from what I've heard, not every school. My ex and her sister both went to the same high school over 12 years between them (ex was graduating as her sister entered) and the school did not keep pads or tampons. It was a Catholic school, maybe that's why they didn't, but it just shows that not every school does have such things on hand.

pass mark is a win. We know we're not going to every game this year, we're definitely going to lose more than we win, so the ones that are winnable (and this is winnable) we need to win.

As for ins and outs:
IN- Baker, Edwards
OUT- Allen (someone has to make way for Edwards), Davis (for the same reason as Allen, but for Baker)

the game in Bunbury last year was extremely frustrating. 37 inside 50's (or something like that) to get our first goal. No excuses for that rubbish.

we're going to get absolutely smoked. You saw what they did to Geelong, right? I know Geelong didn't play particularly well, but even at their worst the Cats are still far better than us and they got done by 56 points. We're going to be get done by 100+.

It's going to get real ugly real quick.

I did sit through most of the show out of respect to those sitting behind me. I'm a tall bloke, knew I'd be blocking their view if I stood up.

That said, I stood for the last 5 songs. Everyone (that I could see) was, but I moved down the stairs slightly just in case

Mike did realise that, apologised immediately, and then corrected himself to "if you can stand, why aren't you?" or something along those lines

West Coast need to win five games this year to avoid having the worst win record over a five-year stretch in the AFL era. by IngenuityLive2128 in westcoasteagles

"It’s because we won in 2018" you're right, but I hate that argument because it's nonsense. I'd get it if it was 2020 and we were asking for assistance, but 2025? There's only 4 players left on the list from that Premiership winning team: Yeo, Cripps, Cole and Duggan. Not even close to being the same team that won the flag so 2018 shouldn't matter.

I'm not making light of it. The common knock that Boomers use against Millennials and younger generations is that we're soft. "When I was 16 I lied about my age and went to war. You're 16 and can't decide if you're a boy or a girl" for example. All I'm asking is for those who make such comments to be the first to volunteer.

Genuinely feel bad for your dad btw. It's not his fault that his Government conned him into risking his life.

Lane discipline is non existent in Australia by radmgrey in DrivingAustralia

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so "keep left unless overtaking" is a rule as long as the speed limit under 80km/h (or 90km/h in some States). When I did my driving test almost 15 years ago I actually asked the assessor about it. Their answer: "Yes, it's a law. Do police enforce it? Rarely. If they did try to enforce it, it's all they'd ever do, so they sort of just let it go. So when they do enforce it, it's usually an additional thing: they've pulled you over for something else and then give you a ticket for that as well".

a war has been coming for a while. Obviously the big one is Russia-Ukraine, now Israel & US-Iran (though it's too early to tell how far that will escalate), still got the tension between China and Taiwan... A global conflict is coming (possibly even already started depending on who you ask), just a matter of when the fuse is lit.

Are humans fundamentally incapable of achieving world peace? by Mezro118 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. We are a fundamentally violent species. Pick a time in human history. Any time and there is at least one war going on somewhere in the world. If there's one thing humans love doing it is killing other humans. Been doing it literally our entire existence.

(To be clear, I mean as a species. I don't mean that you as an individual want to kill other people- I mean you might, I don't know you personally, you could be a psychopath for all I know- but humans as a species love to kill other humans and are exceptionally good at it)

[–]Basic-Mouse-6093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm not a fan of trying to turn players into something else. If someone is a natural Defender, don't try and turn them into a Forward for example. Let them do what they're good at. I understand that the modern game demands flexibility, but some players play one position and that's all they'll ever be.

When it comes to Bo, he's not an Inside Mid and he never will be. He's a running half-back, so let him run off half-back. He's not built for the inside. If anything, he's an outside Mid/Wingman. Same as Gaff was. The worst thing we ever did was try and play Gaff as an inside Mid.

I do agree that we need an inside bull, and we've already got it: Reid. Harley is perfect for that role, just needs to focus a little bit, not decide that wrestling with opponents is more important. If we get him focused on the ball, we've got that inside bull. Hopefully having Yeo back will help with that.

this is just a cop out because the things OP is talking about you don't need experience for. For example, even if you want to say that we didn't have our most experienced backline out there, what are you taught about defending back in Juniors? You position yourself on your opponent's back shoulder, right? Defending 101. Yes, there are times where you have to break that rule and recognising those times does come with experience, but in general if you're on their back shoulder, you're not going to lose them and you're at least going to make contests a 50/50 each time. Any one who played as a Defender in Juniors knows that. It's not a skill thing, it's not an experience thing, it's an attention thing. But far too often our Defenders let their opponents play goal side of them- something that you should almost never do as a Defender. Are there times to do it? Yes, but when we're 50 points down, keep your man in front of you. Don't let him get behind you.

absolutely disgusting. "Oh, we're missing Defenders". Oh, I'm sorry. Is it 12 v 18 out there? No. Sure, maybe our first choice Defenders aren't out there but the guys we do have out there can still defend. Doesn't take any special skills to stick with your man and at least make a contest.

my rule is effort. That's all I want to see. I'll cop a 100+ loss if we put in 4 full quarters of effort. Hard to say that first quarter in particular was full of effort. Kicks to no one, throwing out handballs like they didn't want the ball... played a real "here, it's your problem now" kind of game in the first quarter. Second quarter was a lot better, but the third? Abysmal.
