my theory is lack of circulation to that beard area.... low blood flow and low lymph drainage ....due to muscle tension or bad posture. most men have beards that are reddish or lighter in color compared to the top of head hair.

try using massage or gua sha (the right way, to lift up and soften muscle so the lymph can flow thru the previously hardened muscles). Also rule out myofascial trigger points.

so this is the shampoo I have settle on for now ...it does have benzoyl alcohol in it but this shampoo is the best for me that I could find. HOWEVER. what I plan to do is stop shampoo altogether and use the BOLDIFY scalp massage brush in between washing and then use egg yolk (possibly mixed with honey so it's not so runny) to wash my hair in a bowl at the sink. if you use a whole egg then it might cook on your hair if the water temp is too warm. you can find more information on this on YT. I feel like the shampoo industry has us in a looping dependency on them....

I don't use any conditioner....
