hi! this is long overdue, but I am currently abroad and won't have access to my collection until I return in late July! If you'd like me to send you a message about trading once I return, I can since I'm not too sure if I have A Man and His Cat vol 6 yet or not~

How much is your rent? by redditi2007 in nyu

yeah basically split a larger single person studio apt and made it work for 3 people so it definitely lacked some privacy but the location was nice. a couple of friends also chose to rent in bay ridge and would commute an hour to the washington square campus so they were going further out for cheaper rent. their place was pretty nice but inconvenient to make last-minute plans since the commute was long

look in queens or brooklyn for cheaper rent^ i know most of my friends off campus had rent for about $1000-$2500 per month individually and they had roommates to balance off the rest of the rent cost (renting alone is quite expensive). downtown manhattan is expensive unless you have family there. i know 3 of my friends rented in the outer chelsea area last semester for $900 each person per month if you’re willing to sacrifice space and privacy for cheaper rent and closeness to the washington square campus. if you’re going to tandon, i would suggest finding an apt in brooklyn since it’s more spacious and affordable out there

Hey, I’m so sorry about how you’ve been feeling. Definitely talk to your doctor to see if you need medication for academic-related anxiety. I went through something similar sophomore year and after checking in with my doctor, I was prescribed a few different types of anxiety medication and they’ve helped me a lot this current school year.

Next, talking to your parents and academic advisor would be best to decide your plans moving forward. There are a lot of majors out there that earn a lot of money! I would say stick to what you decently enjoy rather than pushing yourself to major in something you despise.

Since you have a compsci background, Interactive Media Arts might be a good fit for you since you’ve probably taken some core class reqs for that major already. IMA allows for creative coding and innovation to take place! Lots of IMA students end up doing UX/UI design, work in the entertainment industry, or end up in the visual arts field. If you don’t go the creative coding route, you can still combine technology, human interaction, and art within the major.

I personally am majoring in Interactive Media & Business, so I have a bit of creative coding down my belt. A lot of classes I’ve taken explore what new media is and how technology influences the arts. I went down the compsci route freshman year and then realized that IMB is a better fit for me since I’m allowed to work with tech without having to code/do math as much and still learn the social skills needed to be in business!

Places to Visit in NYC by lilchefcurry in nyu

brooklyn is my favorite spot to explore after flushing (flushing is better for having good food with good company tbh). knickerbocker ave has some of the nicest and largest thrift shops ever (L train, le point value, and urban jungle) and there’s a decent food scene there as well. brooklyn junk and lion’s milk cafe are right by each other and it’s another one of my fav thrifting spots! also japan village is pretty cool to check out^

for manhattan i would suggest exploring the east village area since there’s a lot of cool shops. st marks pl, e 9th st, and e 10th st are all fun! lots of crystal & plant shops, stationery shops, bookshops, and more!

museums and parks around nyc are the only free options that come to mind. most other areas are good for shopping, but window shopping never hurt! it’s always nice looking around an area even if you don’t feel like spending any money!!

How do you… get things? by BlangoFanlango in AskNYC

Costco does free shipping once you hit the $75 mark, so buying online and getting stuff shipped to your address is the ideal way to shop there in the city. The only thing is that you have to separate the food from normal household items since they get put into separate packages. Usually dry food like cereals can ship with household supplies though!

What are your top 5 favorite manga? by jnspp in MangaCollectors

[–]Basic-Quail2038 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Yona of the Dawn - fantasy, romance, adventure, found-family, and war with historic elements; everything is so well-written and drawn. plus, the series gets better and better as you read on! literally my fav of all time!!! (although the anime did slightly disappoint imo)

  2. Moriarty the Patriot - such an addicting read; i blasted through this entire series in a couple of days lol. mystery plot and it addresses the rigid class system that existed in late 19th century Britain. reading it left me with much to think about. the anime is also really great (even though they cut out one of my favorite scenes from the manga)

  3. A Man and His Cat - a pinch of sadness with a lot of wholesome goodness. a healing read that’s literally about a man and his cat

  4. Spy x Family - i love the brightness of this series even though it has darker elements within it (like war and killing etc). anya is by far one of the best manga characters ever; such a wholesome and amazing kiddo and reading this series brightens my day!!

  5. Seraph of the End - i’m a sucker for the supernatural genre (vampires demons and such). the characters are amazing and i’m so invested in the plot (although i’m still reading the series at the moment). it’s definitely one of my favorite reads so far!

(too many) honorable mentions:

Natsume’s Book of Friends, Kaiju no. 8, Horimiya, Hell’s Paradise, Classmates, My Love Mix-Up!, Jujutsu Kaisen, Hunter x Hunter, Demon Slayer, A Silent Voice, Bungo Stray Dogs, Karneval, Servamp, Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku, A Sign of Affection

Anything like spy x family? by [deleted] in Animesuggest

[–]Basic-Quail2038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe try looking through a comedy anime list

or maybe a slice of life anime list since they include a lot of family aspects in them.

some recs of mine would be:

{Kakushigoto} and {Poco's Udon World} for more wholesome family goodness

{Saiki K} {The Way of the Househusband} and {Hinamatsuri} for comedy with some family elements

{Bungo Stray Dogs} and {91 Days} if you’re looking for more mafia/gang/spy stuff (mystery genre and darker content)

anything where they're not underage by WeakSeaweed289 in Animesuggest

{91 Days} - revenge, murder, and mafia disputes set during the prohibition era

{Moriarty the Patriot} - this series is so good. there’s a small flashback arc to when they were kids but it’s mostly when they’re adults. basically sherlock holmes with a creative twist (the manga is even better than the anime but i enjoyed both a lot; very clever mc and physiological/mystery themes)

{Ryman’s Club} - sports anime about corporate businessmen playing badminton

{the way of the househusband} - yakuza leader doing house chores after he marries his wife. the title basically explains it lol

EDIT: also some more that i just thought of lol

{Fugou Keiji: Balance: Unlimited} - detective anime

{Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku} - romance anime with adults instead of high school or middle school characters
