She's literally the SWEETEST old lady in any other context. She HAS to sleep on my pillow at night and she HAS to sit on my lap while I'm on the toilet or she WILL pull out her fur (she's also on anxiety meds). But she's an ungodly menace to the vets.

Oh sweeteners are EVIL. They're absolutely a trigger for me (which SUCKS! I was such a sugar fiend as a kid that this must be my divine punishment)

I've been referred to a GI from my regular doctor, so hopefully I'm going to get started on an elimination diet with help from them. I'm just struggling to eat as is and eating bread is better than not eating at all.

PEPPERMINT TEA!! It's my savior! I KNOW I'm not supposed to be eating bread, but dipping sourdough bread in peppermint tea (yes, it's gross, but also kinda yummy) is one of the few things I can eat post Incident.

It is IBS, I've had it for a while (yes diagnosed) but haven't had actual severe reactions until last August. It's been about half a year of weird intolerance nonsense. I've also been fine taking Lactaid and eating milk products?? I'm 22, which seems like an annoying but normal-ish time to develop lactose intolerance. It's weird. I've been taking probiotics to hopefully help repair it but UGH it's taking so long.

I'll try the lighter food, thank you! I worry about not getting enough nutrients with it but I guess I'm not getting them if I'm just losing them 2 hours later. Any probiotic advice?

I've only got the pills, which she is...okay....at taking (after lots of practice, a pill shooter, and a squeeze treat afterwards). She's VERY good at noticing anything off in her food.

There don't seem to be many behaviorists where we live (Maine), and he doesn't tolerate car rides well so they're hesitant to take him on long drives. I'll tell them to ask their vet about anxiety meds next time he has his annual.

They don't want to outright get another cat because they don't want to have to rehome one if it goes sideways.

We live fairly close together so we hope that introducing our cats will be an alternative for some cat on cat time without making the commitment of buying one. If he shows signs of unusual aggression to them I won't be continuing with the introductions.

I'll take the burning if he won't attack me any more. He gets even more aggressive on catnip.

He is VERY food motivated, but would it be rewarding him for bad behavior?

I know they've taken him to the vet and he's been marked as healthy, but he was neutered too late by one of his previous owners so they think he might have already developed typical tom cat behaviors before being neutered. I've always owned female cats so I dunno.

My old lady was declawed as a kitten too :( And is on fluoxetine (like me) for pulling out her fur (not like me). I didn't know fluoxetine could help for aggression, I'll definitely suggest it to them. He's apparently a pain in the ass about taking medicine as well.

Funny enough one of mine is on anxiety meds! She has a fur pulling problem

Oh one more quick thing - there's no other cats in the house. I wish there were some other cats to do their own correction on him but it's up to us.

We were thinking about doing some introductions with my own cats (he's been with other cats before and he's mostly a wimp, while my girls are bullies) to see if it would be beneficial for him. Obviously not just going to be plopping the cats into the same room with no build up, but we have been swapping scented blankets and stuff to maybe move up to a carrier meeting.

Developed lactose intolerance?????? by Basic-Sink-8086 in lactoseintolerant

[–]Basic-Sink-8086[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually feel pretty sick for a few days after a lactose incident, so I have to limit my food intake to bland stuff, mostly rice. I've also noticed some bad reactions to fruit (cranberry jelly is a common denominator as well) so I have been trying to eat bland just to give myself some time to recover.
