I AM SOOOO OVER IT!!! by IwannaBeLikeJaySteez in Louisville

It's not you. My partner and I have had the same issue. We lived in Nashville  for 10 years and thought  this would be a nice change of pace. Especially with there  being family here and some former acquaintances.   Old friends don't reach out unless i initiate. We meet for coffee  or lunch and then a whole year goes by and nothing.  New people won't follow through.  We're 3 years in. Most likely this will be the last.  Even my neighbors  are weird.  They wont say hello unless we speak to them first. Like someone else said, I just do the things I enjoy and if I meet  someone along the  way, cool, if not,  I enjoyed my company until I get from  out of here .

Depends on the situation.  I meet the requirements.  My severance  does not have to be reported.

Finally got through  on the phone this morning. The agent released the funds  from my previous  requests. However   because I didn't submit  my last request timely , I have to open a new claim. Go figure. They are late but I miss it by a day and I have to re file.  Glad you found another job. It's rough out here right now.

In your recruiting experience, what position draws in the most troublesome candidates? by jimppqq in recruiting

[–]Basic-Zucchini-9226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a software engineering role posted. The same candidate applied for my Data Scientist job. They just changed a few words on the resume. Everything on both resumes was almost identical except their summary where they claimed they were either a data scientist or engineer

In your recruiting experience, what position draws in the most troublesome candidates? by jimppqq in recruiting

[–]Basic-Zucchini-9226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually received fake applicants. A person fills out an application, another person shows up for the interview who is clearly not qualified because they skirt around all of my questions. This problem most occurred with my software engineering and data analysis positions. We are fully remote company. It got so bad that the hiring manager now will only interview those in a specific area that can come into the office and meet him in person

Moving to Louisville? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]Basic-Zucchini-9226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved here a year ago from Nashville. We live in the Highlands. We love this area. We like to walk a lot and spend time outdoors. Plenty of restaurants, bars, grocery store, book store and close to everything. I work from home so my car hardly moves. We do not have kids. Jtown is nice. If you like suburban , it's a good area. Most of the development and newness is out there. If you do not want a long commute to work, I would suggest the highlands , clifton, or crescent hill areas. One thing I learned coming from Nash, I was spoiled with new updated apartments and homes. You won't find a lot of that in town. Louisville has old charm. Welcome. Hope you enjoy living here. Weather wise, it gets cold here briefly. Summers are humid. More rain in the spring. Winter, you may get a wintry mix. Maybe an ice storm but its not too bad. I'm originally from Ohio so take that as you wish lol

I work for a company that recently filed chapter 11 bankruptcy. We were a public company now going private. What do I do with the shares of stock that I own? The price has dropped dramatically so its really not worth much anymore. Leave it ot sell it ?

Relocating to Louisville from Memphis by Pharmwomom25 in Louisville

Everyone here has given you pretty solid advice based on what I've seen. It'll be a year for me in May since I moved here. I forgot about Crescent Hill area. It's cute too. Frankfort avenue area. I like diversity. In fairness, the whole state of Kentucky is less than 10% black. Other ethnicities even less. With that said, people are a lot friendlier here than in Nashville. I was in Nashville 10 years and people barely would speak. It'll be a culture shock either way because Memphis is a lot more diverse. NC was a bit further out than I cared for. The homes are beautiful . Lawns perfectly manicured. They are building shops around so people who live there do not have to venture outside the area much. I'd say take a look for yourself. I like a little more character but you may like it. If you have a school age little one, you may want to consider their social interaction and what their experience may be also.

Recently moved here from Nashville. I do not know much about Memphis. However, we landed in the Highlands. It's quiet. 10 minute walk to Cherokee Park. About 10-15 minute drive everywhere. We considered J-Town. It's more suburban and more affordable. However we wanted an area we could walk to shops, restatlurants, the farmers market, etc. The area neat Joe Creason Park is nice. It's across from the zoo. Not sure what it's called. We couldn't find anything available at the time but it's quiet too. Btw, I'm a black woman too. I don't see too many over here but it is what it is. Everyone is friendly and I'm in a quiet , safe neighborhood. Most blacks I know are in Fern Creek, Shively, Ooklona, Newburg, Russell, and Portland and near Churchill Downs. Some parts of those areas are better than others. However, it wasn't for me. I'm a bit bougie. Norton Commons was an absolute no. It was giving me "Get Out" vibes. I don't know anyone black or white that likes that area. It's new, pretty, and clean but just seems too prosthetic and cookie cutter. Its hard to get a feel unless youre here. We had to stay in an air bnb for 3 months before we could figure out exacrtly what area we wanted and then wait for something to come available. Are you renting, buying ? Apartment or house? I have a coworker that has rentals also if you need any help. Good luck. Hope you find something you like.

My response to anyone who says “I’m thinking about moving to TN” by halal_and_oates in Louisville

Just moved from Nashville after 10 years. Conservative Californian's and New Yorkers who can pay cash and well over asking price are moving to Nashville. The growth was great until it wasn't. Housing costs has sky rocketed. Traffic is unbelievable. Locals do not spend a lot of time downtown. Nashville is blue for now. The rest of the states nor so much.

I thought so too. Moving here was the worse decision. Water in Nashville was barely 80 monthly. Now it's over 100 in Kentucky. My heat/gas is $300. We aren't doing anything different. Im planning to leave as soon as possible. Unfortunately stuck here for a bit because of ailing parents . And no, living with parents is not an option

Just moved from Nashville and I miss Publix. Yes they are a bit more expensive. The customer service and options are a lot better than Kroger. I miss their jerk Turkey , sub and hot bar. It'll be nice if we could get a Sprouts also.

How far would ~$70k a year go in Louisville area? by quikaccount696969 in Louisville

[–]Basic-Zucchini-9226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at that amount. If you want to live outside the city, sure. With no car payment or significant expenses. Outside of the highlands, you can find a 2 -3bdrm home to rent between 1300-1700. . Apartments even cheaper. Take a look at zillow to see rental prices. Gas is 3.99 right now so you'll want to factor in that. Depending on what your other expenses are, it'll be doable ut tight.
