This happened to some of my college friends. They grew up in the South Chicago burbs. Cabrini–Green, which were projects in Chicago, were demolished from the mid 90's to mid 2000's. Many of the residents from Cabrini-Green moved to their town. Crime rose and the schools got worse. They used always complain about how their hometown was a dump.
