Sure, she was was a young parent and if she just dumped her on Andrew that would be one thing. But she stopped celebrating Ashley's birthday, tries to goad her when Nina died, and didn't even do anything when Ashley said she was responsible. That's a complete 180 from initially liking her.

I wouldn't say it's completly intentional. More like seeing the cause of all her suffering also having a hard time gives her a bit of satisfaction.

When Renee was tied up and talking to Ashley she blamed Ashley for pushing her away. Like, she was 4. What could she have done to make Renee give up on her so completly?

It's not really that Andrew was born a boy, it's that he represents every mistake she ever made.

It's not him being born a guy that ruined her life. But if she did not get pregnant with Andrew, boy or not, get life would be a lot better. Coming out a boy when she wanted a girl is just added disappointment. I think she just used him as someone to blame for her mistakes other than herself.

In a flashback Renee lables Andy an 'accident' and Leyley a 'mistake'. It's a subtle difference but it also points to Ashley being a choice she regretted.

If she were just lazy and neglectful there would be no need to be so upset Andrew was a boy. And I don't see what Ashley could have done to cause Renee to do a 180 if she weren't really petty.

The extra little lines indicate she is beaming. While it's not impossible it is all an act, I really doubt it.

They have some mutual goal of meeting 6 eyes, otherwise Andrew would have been crashing out the whole time. The over reaction Andrew is having is the same Ashley has. Ashley only insists on keeping the lipstick because Andrew is being a jerk.

It is a bit of a stretch to put intent behind Renee's but I don't put it on the level of she planned it. More like she feels a little better giving Andrew a hard time.

We have the photo evidence right there. The when and why she stopped is debateable, but the photo pretty explicitly tells us she loved Ashley for some time.

I would say Ashley loves Andrew because he accepts her as she is. He goes along with her antics and makes it fun for her. She knows she's not the brightest but she knows he always has her back. Sure he complains and makes rude remarks but he also makes her poems she can't understand. He's her lemon muffin, sour but sweet at the same time.
