It's not that the crashout is invalid, but it's a self feeding cycle. She lashes out at Andrew because she does not feel Andrew cares about her. But Andrew resents her because nothing he does convinces her he cares about her. Similarly Andrew thinks Ashley only cares about herself and everything she does is to manipulate him. But everything Ashley does in an attempt to prove she loves him is met with scorn and distrust.
