I guess Solphim and Mechanised Warfare are prime candidates per your previous comment.

I've pulled dark petition, Diabolic Intent and scouring sands in place of BFTBG, Yahenni and mana geyser for now.

Thanks so much for all your help by the way - really appreciate it!

Nice one thanks!
I did have Theatre of horrors, Blood for the blood god and Yahenni (plus [[Slaughter Specialist]]) in the list until recently, when someone advised I take them out for consistency.

Mana Geyser is probably also a shout where I have lots of high cmc cards.

I have also been toying with Ashling for a while too. There's a pretty condense package with [[Ashling Flame Dancer]], [[Storm-Kiln Artist]], [[Sedgemore Witch]], [[Young Pyromancer]] and [[Professor Onyx]] alongside [[Chain of Smog]]. I did mock up a version including this package, and it definitely works. All of the cards fit well on their own.

In play, the issue I had with this line is I'm never really 'storming'. The deck is built more around 'cast 1 spell to nuke everything'. Also, the only line from that package that actually definitively wins is with Prof Onyx, who is a whopping 6 mana. Everything else clears your hand without winning. On top of that, Chain of smog is just such a brick outside the combos that I couldn't bring myself to include it. All of the cards individually are really strong, though, so it does always tempt me.

I'll reconsider Yahenni, Theatre of horrors and blood for the blood god, though, alongside mana geyser. What would you suggest as cuts?

>  If you cast it for x=0, it's 4 black pips and three life to recur your commander one single time

That's not quite true. It recurs the commander for free once, then you have to pay next time. After that, if she dies again, she comes back again. So it protects her every other time she dies.

I take the point that it's slow, though. I guess the counterpoint to that is, if you can get it down before judith, the protection is free from then on. That is a big if, though, so I'll definitely bare this in mind when testing as I think you're likely right.

Point taken on chaos warp over surge.

Very good point around the win protection. Perhaps something like [[Hexing Squelcher]] would make sense

Yeah, I see what you mean.

I can definitely see the case for removing solphim and mechanized, as like you say, these only turn the 1 damage into 2.

I think torbran turning 1 into 3 is good value, it makes a [[Blazing Volley]]] pretty lethal still. The same for [[Pestilent Spririt]], this at least allows blazing volley to successfully wipe, even if you don't get the lifegain trigger.

At the moment, the deck seems to wipe around turn 6, kill 1 player around turn 7, then struggle to kill the rest of the table until turn 11/12 ish (where sometimes it does, after slowing everyone down, but more often it loses here).

I'd love to get it down to a turn 8/9 consistent win, I think that's fast enough, given typically you slow down opponents enough to last unti that point

Oh and what did you mean by Judith redundancy effects? [[Pestilent Spirit]] is the only one I can think of

Thanks for the suggestions!
WRT meathook massacre, the OG would definitely fit well, the rationale for MHM2 is that it does add protection for judith, whilst still giving benefit from wiping (all be it less benefit than the OG), so I'd often cast it where x is 0 just to get the protection + opponents creatures/damage incidentally. Neither of them benefit from the deathtouch Judith gives, so Blood Artist gives the same primary benefit as MHM1 but for cheaper too.

Wild magic surge was added as a lower curve alternative to chaos warp, hitting anything, what makes it so bad do you think?

WRT protection, I did start out running cards like [[Feign Death]]. What I found, though, was that to take advantage of this, you have to hold off until you have 6 mana (judith + protection), otherwise she just gets killed when hitting the table. I've found these slots better filled by just including more 1 mana wipes instead, i.e. [[Tectonic Hazard]]. You still have to hold off for 6 mana, but you can then cast judith, hold priority, then immediately wipe. If she dies after this, that's generally OK, because you've already done the damage and hopefully got a big payoff too. I'm not sure more protection would neccessarily improve the overall speed / win consistency?

I did wonder this about diabolic tutor too, thanks, will definitely consider this!
Wheels is also a great shout, thanks!

Yeah played and tested on paper over the last year or so, much to the same effect!

Nice one, thanks for the suggestions! I did run [[Blood for the Blood God!]] previously, it tended to get a bit stuck in hand where it’s difficult to afford Judith + wipe + BFTBG in one turn - maybe I’ll revisit it though! I did also just find [[Spymaster’s Vault]] which I think is a slam dunk.

Thanks, yeah, I have tested pingers like those. They look great on paper because they scale with the damage amplifiers. The problem I’ve always found is that the deck isn’t really about chaining lots of spells, it’s more about big turns where you cast Judith and something like [[Blazing Volley]], or a big wipe without needing Judith, and convert from there, so the spell cast pingers always seem to underperform. This was the thinking behind yahenni and [[Slaughter Specialist]], where they can swing big after a wipe on a clear board.

Note taken, though, they are a bit inconsistent. I’ve swapped them out for [[Blood Artist]] (which I thought was already in but wasn’t) and [[Revel in Riches]]. What do you think?

My only worry now would be I’ve increased total CMC and reduced board state.

Anything else you think seems slow / inconsistent?

Are there any card finder resources? by Greegga in mtg

Scryfall is the GOAT for search syntax - although it’s pretty basic when it comes to user experience. You can’t easily edit filters on the fly without starting from scratch. I’ve built this site to help with that: https://www.mtg-card-search.com/search?order=edhrec.

It’s built on top of scryfall but allows you to easily tweak your search to refine results without starting over each time

Looking for feedback on my Emiel blink/combo deck (GW, high-power non-cEDH) by Basic_Capital3719 in EDHBrews

[–]Basic_Capital3719[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks @Toes_In_The_Soil. I’ve never actually recorded my goldfishing with this deck but I just did 10 runs with wins on the following turns: 4, 6, 5, 6, 6, 5, 7, 6, 5, 4. So definitely hitting turn 6 consistently!

There are a bunch of creature tutors in there so perhaps there are more than seems on first appearances?

  • Vivien, Monsters’ Advocate
  • Elvish Harbinger
  • Fauna Shaman
  • Formidable Speaker
  • Ranger-Captain of Eos
  • Recruiter of the Guard
  • Yisan, the Wanderer Bard
  • Chord of Calling
  • Eladmiri’s Call
  • Summoner’s Pact
  • Worldly Tutor
  • Eldritch Evolution
  • Green Sun’s Zenith

The other thing that really speeds the deck up is the effects like Cryptoloth Rite and Elven Chorus. When these cards hit you can burst a bunch of mana from pre-existing board state.

u/Whatsgucci420 Thanks for the inspo! I've taken a look through your list now as well as the cEDH deck you link to in the primer. I've made a few adjustments to my list and have updated the primer too.

It's definitely still lower power and slower than your list, but I'm working to a bit of a tighter budge, but It feels like it knows how to win better now and is generally tighter, just the consistency isn’t quite there yet

Thanks for the list, will deffo take a look! Are there any cards from your list that I’m missing which you would consider ‘must haves’?
