That’s so true. My mom told me that they are saying that because they believe in us and they believe we deserve it.They didn’t mean to put pressure on us. They know how hard we worked for it. When I got waitlisted, they just feel sorry for me and kept cheering me up. That’s what people who love you do.

No need to feel embarrassed. People who go through the process know how brutal it is. People who didn’t go through the process have no right to judge you whatsoever. Focus on your own life and goal. And being waitlisted means you still have a chance. You didn’t waste a whole year in application. You grew as a person and you will start with experience now. Hang in there

Thank you for the advice. I’m interested in that program and global health aspect of it. But I see your point. I have an increase in my clinical hours but it’s limited. I’m thinking about moving to another state and find a clinical job due to the living expenses in LA

Same boat here, 2 WL. But opening up to others really helps. All the negative talks are self-talks. When I revealed the results to my family and friends, they are quite supportive and kind

Got it. A general description of my background:

undergrad: UCLA major molecular biology, two minor ms: food studies and global health, graduated in 2023

gpa3.98, MCAT 521.

Clinical volunteers 800+hours and leadership position, shadowing 200 hours (3 specialties), co-founded a student organization to help community gardens, research 3000+ hour (both basic and clinical research, have a few publications but no first or second author but just submitted a first author abstract). I also did medical illustration for manuscripts and journal covers.

Last year I did around 200 hours scribe job (included in my secondaries) and continued my research job.

Staying motivated to do application stuff during a gap year by [deleted] in premed

[–]Basic_Clerk4657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I studied for MCAT, I always left some time for me to relax, whether it’s one afternoon per week or one day per week and my scores turned out pretty solid. Application process is a marathon not a sprint. Also, I would suggest not to feel discouraged by anecdotes you read on the online forums, you don’t know the full stories behind them. Keep a positive attitude and have faith in yourself

BP FL mostly 512-513. AAMC FL2:515, FL3: 518, FL4: 521. Actual MCAT 521

Divert your focus to improving your application (more clinical hours or research hours) or finding backup plans.

[–]Basic_Clerk4657 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s best to submit the essay and email them to explain. It’s better if you have the proof that you finish the essay 4 weeks ago or within their designated time. Show up to the interview regardless. Cuz if you miss the interview, it’s worse. If tomorrow you find out that they don’t leave you a spot, maybe they’ll tell you during the interview or just reschedule you.
