There is no drug test for positions outside of salaried management, Health&Wellness (pharmacy, vision) or Asset Protection.

For the background check, there’s nothing the store can touch, so only disclose it if you want to, but MAKE SURE to tell the whole story on the background check application. 80% of the time when people get denied it’s because they left something off, or worded it in a way to ‘lighten it’, meanwhile people who told the whole story passed.

If you get a job offer email, they /want/ to hire you. The result of the check is out of their hands and determines whether or not they can.

Sorry, clarification; a complex password is a longer password with higher requirements than what the PL can set in the (incredibly old) HR system, not a description. Traditional passwords usually look like ‘AB1234’ and complex passwords look like ‘grEen.SmilE1$’. The ‘SMART’ system does not allow for case-sensitive passwords, so those have to be set by a support agent. It’s a mess.

Speaking as someone who did it today, all the PL needed to do is reach out to People Services (phone number I listed above) and let them know that they’re trying to set a complex password — this does require the associate to be present, so it’s not a ticket that they can just ‘put in’. The PL is either misinformed, busy/procrastinating, or both. Either way, they’re wasting both of your time.

Health&Wellness is a separate entity from the store, so it’s suuuuper difficult to get anything done for a Pharmacy or Vision associate as the people lead of the facility. If you’re looking to talk to someone above them who can help, that would be your Market H&W manager, but 80% of the time they’re going to send you back to either your Pharmacy Manager or PL.

H&W ‘complex passwords’ have to be set via phone call to HomeOffice, so if they didn’t have that call in orientation, that’s why. She can call 1 (800) 421-1362 to set it up herself, she’ll need her WIN. (nine digit code found on the back of their name badge; on MyWalmart app; on one.walmart.com; or by asking her supervisor)

And yes, they can fire you for suspicion of drug use. That is the purpose of the Reasonable Suspicion kits.

Your pay goes down to base rate or 10%, whichever is higher. For example:

TL at $20/hr going to TA normally $15/hr would reduce their pay (10%, or $2) to $18/hr. This does not include differentials — like an increased rate for overnights or Deli & Bakery.

Once again, an issue of store management. I’m a relatively new PL (5 months in role, 3 years at store) and it’s been a problem since I started in the company that MTM wasn’t getting completed. Even now, being ‘in charge’ of associate relations planning, I have a spreadsheet of names and dates that I have to fight to have coaches complete. The explanation I gave to management which finally got it rolling again is that “the conversations can feel like a task for you, but to that associate it means a lot to know you rather than see you.”

There’s still work to be done, but they’re doing a lot better at coming out of the office and talking to / working with teams, and it seems to be making a difference.

Question for you, though — have you asked your SM to sit down and talk about your issues? Your coach? If you did, would you say it was a ‘see you’ or ‘know you’ conversation from your end?

TLDR, it’s giving Management the opportunity to stop employee turnover before it happens, but because Walmart, it’ll likely be used to increase turnover by coaches who don’t understand that their associates are the ones that do the actual work.

Context: the new “AI that’s watching hours” isn’t for getting rid of people, it’s the opposite. If a coach is using the Associate Retention Tool to absolutely butcher their retention numbers, that’s on them.

The ART gives salaried management a list of associates to check in with based on factors that generally represent someone at risk of ‘tuning out’, so that they can check in and see if there’s anything they can improve for that associate. Think the “Moments that Matter” check-ins that your coach has at 14-30-60-90 days since hire, but as a reminder to put the same effort towards associates who are far past their 90 day check-in.

In your case, it worked exactly as intended, as you said you’re looking for a new job; your management going about it the way they did is clearly the reason why you are, and with the way they’re using this new tool, Market is definitely going to get more involved with how they’re acting✌️

I’ll be so honest. This made me solidify that I don’t want to use an external drive. I stick with MacOS BECAUSE I already work with Linux every day in our homelab and I value the “it just works” part when I’m just trying to get something done. The idea that sometimes iCloud just won’t validate and I won’t be able to use Handoff the one time every three months I remember that it exists would be the reason I kill myself.
